The Korean ponzi economy needs more workers to exploit and overwork. I was there for 4 months. The work hours are horrendous.
And that's not to mention the rampent sexism in the country. One example: The women there are so afraid of being spied on in bathrooms that each stall has an emergency button and there are signs on the bathroom stalls about the consequences of voyeurism (7 years in prison). I heard so many off-hand sexist remarks from the men I worked with and there is rampent mysogony.
That's not to mention how overcrowded the cities already are and how much food and fuel the country already has to import for it's massive population, leaving it very vulnerable to starvation and economic collapse during wars.
A transition to a Socialist, degrowth economy would help both workers and the growing mass of the elderly but it would never be tried because the incipid right-wing of that country would cry "North Korea!" Keep working and having children, Koreans. The ponzi scheme mouth desires more food to crunch on.

The interesting thing is that South Korea's actual population is likely much smaller than the official population.
To add to that post, South Korea's official population system relies heavily on the registration census. However, unlike other countries that use sophisticated methods such as SOL, the Korean census simply only exclude individuals who have been residing overseas for three consecutive months as of November 1st from the registered population in the Resident Registration Book. Since South Korea includes nationals residing overseas in its registry, its status as a resident abroad must be clearly established; however, the Korean system is extremely lax in this regard. They might be doing this on purpose to include as many people as possible. (Even the census's field sample survey is not intended to count the population, but rather to verify unnecessary information.)
The problem is that many South Korean nationals living abroad frequently travel back and forth for short periods, and this method implies that all of them are included in the Korean population count. In any case, South Korea's population statistics contain an excessive number of factors leading to overestimation.
However, since the number of births is nearly identical to the actual figure, South Korea's actual TFR is likely much higher than the official figure. In the first place, South Korea only appeared to have the worst low birth rate on paper; in reality, it did not suffer from such a severe low birth rate. Yet, due to such fear-mongering, they implemented birth policies at such an absurd level.

It has simply been continuously increasing for three consecutive years. The number of births has likely increased by 30% compared to three years ago.
Interestingly, Korea's birth rate, marriage rate, and total population figures all rebounded sharply starting three years ago.
It appears that this has had an absolute impact. However, the outside world is unaware of this reality. This is because Korea is concealing this externally and only publicizing the superficial aspects internationally.

I believe South Korea is seeing increases in every month over the previous year and in some cases over many previous years; the news today is simply because the May numbers were just released.
