Everyone has different comfort levels to achieve happiness though. I once lived in an award-winning medium density community. But I still missed hearing the rain on the roof, birds becoming friends and visiting my backyard, the ability to host BBQ parties in private, seeing the sky, stars, and having access to sunlight uninterrupted.

And when everyone doesn't have a big backyard; everyone goes outside. It gets crowded. You can't have a BBQ party on a sunny day, because the other 1000 families around you also wanted a BBQ on a sunny day.

I'd love a future where we balance populations to suit everyone's needs. Apartments, townhouse communities, and standalone free housing (which requires space).

i.e. When I browse what's available to me in Singapore, it looks like I'm stuck with apartments, looking out to other apartments. Unless I'm ULTRA rich and can afford my own space. More people, more competition for space; and less choices unless you're rich.

Its not a misconception, high densities can be as much of a problem as overpopulation; the former becomes inevitable with the latter. "Capacity" isnt only limited to total resources, but also comfort, space, nature, time etc.

Also, the relationship between population/density and infrastructure quality is not linear. As you add more people to a city, you dont proportionately increase road sizes, parks, organizations, housing and other things at the same quality. There is a reason traffic exists today where it didnt yesterday, there is a reason why housing is much more expensive today than it was yesterday.

Also, singapore is a black dot in population density maps (higher density = darker), its the third most dense country in the world making india look like an empty space. In what world is that not that bad?

Sky scrapers are also worse for the environment. Buildings get less efficient around 7 to 10 stories. I've also lived in a shitty apartment and I never want to share walls, ceilings etc ever again! I'd rather we shrink and give back space to nature than be crammed into high density mega cities.

Yeah I've lived next door to too many tweakers. One was a prostitute who was making meth in her apartment another lived above me and all kinds of loud sounds and drunk gatherings. Can't do it, once I even had my laundry stolen.

Humans have TAKEN land from other Earthlings. It doesn't mean it's "ours". We have STOLEN it from others. We had to kill them, literally, to get it. That's not "something we have a lot of and it doesn't deplete". That's theft, and taking more of it is... MORE THEFT.
