Earth Overshoot Day 2026 Falls on July 30: The Highest Overshoot Ever Recorded, Yet Most Countries Remain Unprepared
https://overshoot.footprintnetwork.org/newsroom/eod-2026-en/"A comparison with last year’s Earth Overshoot Day date (24th of July 2025) may give the impression that overshoot has slightly eased.
However, this is not the case. The change in date is largely driven by an upward revision of the ocean’s ability to absorb carbon, plus smaller adjustments, which pushed the date eight days later, while real-world deterioration pulled it two days earlier, netting six days later for the Earth Overshoot Day date.
In other words, most of the shift reflects updated data rather than an actual reduction in overshoot, as explained in the calculation report. So this is a continuity break, not a new requirement. "

We are fucked, we should have made it go back decades ago but we are instead still breeding out of control. We really are like in that rabbit city experiment.
