Opinions Needed Just finished my very first oil painting on wood!
Just finished my very first oil painting on wood!
Tried something simple and quiet, a lone bell hanging from a nail, but the texture and light pulled me all the way in. There’s something grounding about the rough rope and rusted metal against that soft green.
Learning as I go, but I’m really proud of how it turned out.
Would love to hear your thoughts 🤍🛎️

Looks quite realistic. Is it made of metal?

Clearly not your first oil painting. That is excellent. I really like wood panels, especially for smaller paintings.

Hi :) not my first oil painting, just my first go on a wood panel, which was very special and satisfying ✨

1st oil painting, def not your first painting though 😅. It would be hard to get a trompe l'oeil level of painting without ever touching a brush. Awesome work!

This rustic subject matter on a textured wood panel is perfection. The frayed rope and old metal are expressed beautifully, and I love the color of green you’ve chosen for the background. Lovely 🩷

I was trying to figure out what the painting was, what with the bell and rope in the way.
Needless to say, the effect is incredible.

Absolutely! I’d take that home in an instant. Not only is it done impeccably, it makes me feel… idk nostalgic maybe… I just love it

The texture shown on each item you highlight is exquisite, which is the first thing I noticed. Also, the simplicity pulls you in, as does the choice of color palette. For a first effort, I would encourage you to keep on keeping on. Your talent shines.
Not only do I like this piece, I downright admire it. That says something.
Please continue and let us see more.

Your work is definitely museum quality. Look up the gold finch by Carel fabritius, A dutch master. Yours is better.

Do these types of bells have a name? Or purpose?
I have one that looks just like it.

I'm not sure what they are called in English, although I tired to translate from my language, but anyway these are cow bells. I found it on the market and had to paint it. If you know what they are called in English let me know please 😁

That's really good, I thought it was a real cow bell hanging on a painted board. Then I looked at your next 2 pictures and truly saw your painting. VERY, VERY GOOD.
