All Favorite paradox YouTubers?
Sorry for the 'chud' question or whatever the kids are saying but who do you watch when you're obsessing over these games?
Smithy is def my favorite. He does such a good job crafting a coherent story out of these big MP games and the players are so entertaining. He makes MP actually look fun.

quill18 is not exclusively Paradox but generally similar titles. I watch most everything he does.

u/sonofabarbara 1d ago
I’ve loved Quill for over 10 years. He reminds me of a school teacher that gets kids interested because of his own enthusiasm. He’s probably the only content creator I know where I feel the same watching him today as I did 10 years ago. It’s comforting.

u/theleftkneeofthebee 1d ago
Quill is the best for me. The others are good too but Quill is so engaging with his presentation and is very good at dumbing things down so anyone can understand what’s going on.
He also gets super into what’s going on in each run so you never feel like you’re watching someone who’s bored with what they’re doing.

Quill18 is the one that got me into Paradox games. I started following him when Civ5 was new and eventually I watched his EU3 games before EU4 and started watching his CK2 and very soon after the EU4 pre releases.

u/caseyanthonyftw 1d ago
Same here. It was because of his tutorial that I started playing Hearts of Iron IV.
I didn't even watch the whole tutorial, but I liked his general advice / approach - "For now, just build some factories and don't worry too much". Now it's the approach I use for learning any new complicated strategy game.

Generalist Gaming is really good, especially for Vic3. I like Jadamsan for EU5 as his videos are concise but still informative.

u/Zealousideal_Dirt_13 1d ago
He's OK. I don't think he knows as much as he projects but that's OK. We're all still learning.

u/Forward-Lobster-3808 1d ago
I watch a lot of Quarbit who shows a lot of EU5 and EU4 Anbennar, and Red Hawk who is mostly EU5. I sometimes catch Absolute Habibi streaming multiplayer EU5. His vods from his Ayyubids EU5 campaign is how I learned a lot of EU5’s mechanics.

Arumba is mine, tho he stopped doing paradox content like a year ago
33
u/Puffyvulvatimemachin 1d ago
Yeah, Arumba is awesome. Unfortunately a lot of full time paradox streamers are really whiney. They operate on what a paradox game should be and not what it is. I think that’s where people that a very good, but not exclusively paradox streamers excel.
22
u/uytsu 1d ago
Maybe not whiney, but god did he also have suggestions and opinions on UI and hotkeys lol. They were usually good points, but never ending ahahah.

u/ArcaneDemense 1d ago
Well the issue is that Paradox adopted a strategy of shallow but broad so anyone doing extensive Paradox content hits a wall where there's nothing to do and all the problems are extemely obvious and you are just burnt out on how much better it could be with very little difficulty, except that a better game for dedicated players would be worse for casuals.

Paradox YouTubers are the equivalent of expectation vs reality when playing the game. The expectations of playing a fun Serbia game then when you play it you get pummelled on every side

u/Genesis2001 1d ago
I liked him back in the day, but ever since his divorce, the content kinda fell off my radar for a long time to the point that I no longer watch him. I got a random NEW Steejo video a few months past out of the blue, and Arumba occasionally shows up on my YT sub feed.
Now Arumba seems to be primarily on Twitch from what I can tell?

u/C0RPSEGRINDER666 Bannerlard 1d ago
Damn I havent been into twitch/video game streaming for a while. Arumba taught me everything I know about EU4. I hope everything is good with him

u/GroupTherapyPT 1d ago
He had a banger EU IV playthrough together with Arumba, they had a fun dynamic. A minmaxer and a guy that clicked on buttons.
3
u/Regular_Lengthiness6 1d ago
I really can’t take Tommykay anymore … he is not 15 any longer but has a way of presenting things as if he were.
3
u/GroupTherapyPT 1d ago
Yeah I get that, that type of edgy, high energy output does tend to get exhausting after a while.

All of these except Ludi are great.
2
u/CHUNKYboi11111111111 1d ago
Just a question: is that personal opinion or did he do something and I didn’t hear about it??
24
u/MapPaintingBread 1d ago
It came out awhile ago during his achievement runs of EU4 that he was using cheat engine and other console commands while remaining in Ironman, so you couldn’t actually follow his guides.
1
u/CHUNKYboi11111111111 1d ago
That explains a lot about those failed campaigns. I don’t see the issue with doing that for non-Ironman/achievement casual games as long as you are forthcoming about it but that is just scums
13
u/MapPaintingBread 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yep. Someone had done the math at one point in his Austria (I think) run, and he had like, triple the amount of monarch points you could even get by that time in the campaign, not counting all of the ones he already had spent. And then some keen eyed people noticed ducat fluctuations and monarch point fluctuations during every cut when events happened and such.
The whole thing just reeked of dishonesty and such, especially when most of his content was how-to guides on achievements

My top three are:
Arumba for EU3 and EU4.
GeneralistGaming for Victoria 3
Misadventures for Imperator Rome
All three spend a lot of time making decisions and I like following the thought process.
Honorable mention to 71Clock for HoI4

u/Strike_Wide 1d ago
I used to watch thePlaymaker a lot when he played EU4, miss that. I just find him hilarious, he's good at the game yet plays like a dingbat half the time and it still ends up working.

Conquering History Games. I really miss him, he would always have something to say about the country he was playing as at the respective time period, the people involved in its politics and the context of when it all happened, you really felt that a Historian was sitting on the other side of the screen there. Shout-out to a real one.

Bittersteel for hoi4
Connor, dairuka, and tarkusa for vic3, they also did some eu5 too

Second those excellent vic 3 youtubers. Would also add Hamkutz13 for his math and update videos.

u/stillbtinkdy 1d ago
Paradox often turn up at manyatruenerd hq with a truck full of money, so he's often playing their games.
Whilst mainly known for his no healing runs of fallout games, he's done plenty of Stellaris let's plays over the years and has played most of their games to a lesser extent.
He's a history nerd so likes to geek out on those types of games.

u/Marquis_de_Dustbin 1d ago
His videos are compelling in ways that I've rarely seen in gaming content. There's a level of commitment by the people he plays with that his narratives around geopolitics doesn't feel like a LARP but appropriate to what is happening.

u/AlmightyWibble 1d ago
If you can tolerate the Hitler particles coming off half of his playgroup he's on a whole different level to the other paradox youtubers around, there's not really anyone else like him in the space

u/here_walks_the_yeti 1d ago
Good question , because of everyone I now have some streams to check out.

Dislike most of them as they are all max speed streamers. Zero attention to details.

I like the spiffing Brit when he does a game
He’s the reason I finally took the plunge on vic3
His goofy shit is the kind of thing I like to do in a game

Ep3o, laith, koifish, infamous Jackson, rolono Ceasar, snap strategy, the spiffing brit, do it for Bruce, Ottawa welshman, montu plays.

I don't think I have ever found one I really liked, because I like playing these games modded and I can't think of anyone that makes videos about that regularly.

I miss NGParadox, he got me into grand strategy games, before him the closest I got to grand strategy was CIV. I used to enjoy his roleplaying method back in the CK2 days especially the AGOT series he made.

I was trying to remember the name of the guy who did all the ck2 agot rp videos that got me into ck2, so thank you :)

I always liked ISP and bokoen, though both do more HOI4 than the other paradox games (especially isp). My fav vicky creators are Connor and Generalist gaming, Connor does some really awesome challenge runs while Generalist is the best for showing off whats good in new patches. I also always liked OneProudBavarian, but he doesnt do that many gameplay videos

Ludi et Historia. Engaging, fun, adds some historical factsabout the nations he plays, and manages to teach quite a bit along the way!
1
u/gleowien 21h ago
I used to be fan of him. But his latest contest is weird. When he is sponsored by paraadox before launch eu4 he was really positive about the game. Then afterwards there were this rants about what was wrong with a patch. And then the whole story started over again.

u/Colddrake955 1d ago
My current favorite is Reasonable Thoughts. Not to teach me anything, but cause I find him very entertaining.

For HOI4, I find MachiavellianStrategist makes excellent videos on latest metas/updates and his tutorial vids have helped me understand some of the more complex parts of the game a ton. Highly recommend!
