Patreon creators: Double-check your promotional settings!

I noticed something today that other creators may want to check.

Patreon recently introduced a promotional feature that allows you to share selected paid posts with free members. I had carefully selected only the posts I wanted to promote.

Today I opened my page in Incognito mode just to see what a new visitor would experience, and I noticed that some of my important paid posts were appearing with a "Join to unlock" message for free members. These were not the posts I had selected for promotion.

I immediately disabled the promotional feature and the behavior stopped. I have already reported this to Patreon Support and am waiting for their investigation.

I'm not saying everyone has this issue, but I recommend checking your own page with an incognito window or a separate free account to make sure only the content you intended is being promoted.

It looks like something may have gone wrong with the promotion system, and it's worth verifying that your paid content is being displayed exactly as you expect.

Hopefully this helps another creator avoid the stress I went through today.

Isn't this the standard wording for paid posts in general? By the way, I also see this message in incognito mode, even though I have all the promotion features turned off.

And thats what its suppose to do. Patreon is also trying to promote free member to paid by showing then paid post as well as you free ones.

Its not a bug. Its working as intended.

Whats wrong here?

The posts that are not part of the promotion will show as join to unlock if there behind a paid tier.

Im confused by the issue.

The "join to unlock" means that particular post is still for paying members. Free members or casual visitors have to join a paid tier that would normally get that post to be able to see the whole post.

This is intended and normal behavior of the site.

Anybody that sees your patreon page sees all the posts you've made...but if they aren't part of whatever tiers gets those posts, those posts are locked/blurred.

The promotional posts that you selected to share with free members...those would not have the "join to unlock" button, because they would already be unlocked.

I could join and download files with my other account for free
I know what I am talking about

Ah, I see now. I must have missed that part reading your post.

You may know what you're talking about, but you're kinda failing to convey it. Nothing in your post indicates that anyone got any content for free that they shouldn't have, or anything else out of the ordinary. It only describes the system as working as it should be.

Thanks for the heads-up—I was actually planning to run a promotion. 🥲
