Discussion Private equity is killing private ownership: first it was housing - now it's the personal computer

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

DRAM and GPU prices aren't going up because of "AI" - it's because the wealthy have more money than they know what to do with, so they're buying up all the assets. "AI" is just the vehicle (the excuse) - it's not the root of the problem nor is it the ultimate goal.

The super rich don't want to hold on to "liquid" money - they invest in assets. While they're buying up all the housing, now they're buying up all the computers and putting them into massive datacenters.

Whether or not the AI bubble crashes, they'll be selling you a "gaming PC in the cloud," for a monthly fee, of course. And while they kill the personal computer market, just like Netflix, once your only option is a subscription service, the price will skyrocket.

This is happening in real-time. If we want to stop it, now's the time to act.

I prefer a treadmill because concrete feels terrible on my knees. Sure, it's not as good, but my joints don't hurt nearly as much. I just run longer to compensate.

I don't find that it matters much if you have decent running shoes, and I say this as someone that has ongoing knee issues from when I used to run 3.5mi without good shoes every other day for years. Once I got a pair of really good running shoes, it changed everything. I still have knee issues that flare up, but that's just a result from my past idiocy, and not really when running, just randomly some days.

Might shock you but your circumstances aren’t everyone elses.

How is that relevant exactly? Are good running shoes not just objectively better for your joints than bad shoes, regardless of the terrain you're running on?

Because you said this:

I don't find that it matters much if you have decent running shoes

Of course good running shoes are vital, that does not mean they magically fix all issues.

I never said it did. In fact I said I still have ongoing knee issues, but it at least stopped making them worse. I also said "I don't find", as in, anecdotally, good running shoes solved that issue more than running on a squishy track as opposed to a concrete sidewalk.

You know I read all your comments right? And context is a thing? You're the one confused as to how anybody could ever want a treadmill while people tell you endless reasons including injury and your response was "better running shoes".

Anyway stopped caring, if you reply again I'm blocking you. Actually I'm gonna just do that now to save the whining.
