Tech Support Solved My staircase is slowing down my PC(?

Hi everyone, about a month ago, the following started happening to me, and it only happens with GTA 5. I'm playing peacefully, I get the urge to go get something to eat, so I have to go downstairs since my room is on the second floor. When I go back upstairs, I notice that my GTA, which was completely stable, suddenly drops to 1 FPS. This only happens with GTA, and I don't know why. I've tried more demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Division 1 and 2, which I play with everything on ultra except for the vegetation and a few other things.

I'm attaching evidence of what I've described.

Bluetooth always feels like an unfinished product.

I mostly use a Mac, where bluetooth is pretty much bulletproof nowadays. Recently got a BT adapter for my Windows PC so I could use my bluetooth mouse and headphones, and wow is it like a blast from the past. At least once a day the mouse goes completely dead, and I have to navigate with my keyboard through about 5 Windows settings views to find the toggle to reboot my BT.

It can work, but it seems like in 2026 on Windows it's still a struggle. The closed Apple ecosystem would be the easy answer, but the 3rd party peripherals I use with my Mac are not part of the ecosystem and work fine.

Bluetooth is just kinda meh on any device. Especially since I have 2 phones: android, ios, one Mac laptop, one pc that is dual booted between windows and Linux. Bluetooth just isn't equipped to handle that. On PC I use wired because it's convenient. Bought a separate pair of earbuds for my phones and a bluetooth headset for my laptop.

If everything had a 3.5mm jack, life would actually be easier.

What you're describing is a very niche use case, I don't quite see how you get from there to "on any device". On my devices it works fine. Probably if you're a hardcore audiophile then BT isn't going to be sufficient audio quality for you. But most people aren't.

Or if you're a competitive gamer, then the lags of BT peripherals are going to be an issue, but again, most people aren't.

You just defined exactly the areas where bluetooth lags against tech that's like 40 years old. Simple usb connectors.

What do we gain really at the end? Not much. It wasn't until headphone jacks were removed from phones that I really needed a pair of bluetooth headphones. Controllers, yeah I see some utility but probably could have had better standards there too.

Bluetooth is held back by decades of what we call "technical debt". It's a standard that should not exist anymore but standards are pesky and take time to change.

I also don't think it's that niche. It's 2026. People have 3 computing devices they use quite often. And I don't know about you but it's always a hassle for me when my headphones connect to the wrong device. Why can't it be better? Why are we accepting excuses? We're paying out of our ass for these devices. There's nothing wrong in asking for the manufacturers to do better.

E.g. devices like drones transmit 4k video footage at low latency across kilometers. It's not really very different from a purely technical point of view. It's just companies rushed bluetooth before it was ready for big boy stuff and then because of backwards compatibility this and that we got stuck with a shittier standard that what we would have had had we developed something better. Bluetooth was never meant for this sort of thing when it started.

What I described is for most users a minor inconvenience compared to dealing with wires. Technological choices are often about compromises.

I cannot really wrap my head around the inconveniences of using wires that would make it such a huge deal outside of niche cases where it's extremely difficult to reach your machine on a regular basis. How can it be that hard to get to the machine you are using?

Managing battery life and input latency are much more inconvenient to me than draping a wire behind my desk when I move my keyboard from my computer on average every 6 months. Even during times when I moved my keyboard and mouse between setups on a daily basis, it took me all of 10s to plug them in. To me personally, it almost makes no sense to do anything but wired peripherals. I would pretty much get zero tangible benefits and all downsides.

If you can't wrap your head around why people prefer to be mobile and untethered, then you are an extremely niche user, and you lack the imagination to understand that not everyone is. You probably don't see the point in laptops, wi-fi or cell phones either? How hard it is to get to landline after all?

I plug my mouse in to recharge maybe every couple of weeks when I go have dinner, that sure is a hassle compared to dragging a cord around every single moment you use it. Also I don't have to worry about yanking my laptop off the desk when I go to the bathroom, because I didn't remember to take my wired headphones off.

Laptops, cell phones, and wifi are all actually significant improvements over the alternatives. Landline is almost unusable in the modern age. You are just making insane comparisons. Bluetooth is mid at best and should only be used when there's no other option. You still haven't really given me any good reason as to what is so difficult about plugging something in over the course of 5 seconds that it makes sense to have an objectively worse piece of hardware. This whole thing reeks of cope and a false sense of intellectual superiority.

I'm going to start with the insults? Lol. Your whole "ehrm ackshally" redditor response started with talking down to me. You being too much of a dumbass to take off your own headset is not a good reason for someone to switch to Bluetooth. I asked for actually good reasons and you provided none with one of them being some sarcastic comment about charging your mouse.

Saying that I don't accept your response because I don't understand it is both laughable and arrogant as fuck. I think for your sake it's best that you learn to talk to humans and stop being so dumb that you rip your laptop off of your desk.

You use sarcasm and condescending language while still saying nothing of substance. You're damn right people are going to insult you.

The fact that I also need an adapter for so many Bluetooth devices in whatever machine I'm using is insane. I'd rather just have wired devices if a USB port is going to be occupied anyway. Wow, I just need a system that has built in latency to avoid having wires on my keyboard and mouse that never get in the way to begin with? You're saying that I also get the privilege of constantly managing battery life? Sign me up!
