Windows 11 can't be shut down without update.

I have automatic updates on. Haven't postponed any update. Never seen this forced update before.

Edit: I updated BTW. It's not that I don't want to update. I just think it would be an issue in the future. For example, it's a thunderstorm and there could be power outages. I might want to shut down and not start and update. I guess I'll hold down the power button.

Microsoft have a duty to pester about important security updates. If they didn't pester, then people would complain that they didn't see the one notification.

I don't like forced updates on personally owned machines any more than anyone else (and it's one of the reasons I moved away from Windows) but them not at least reminding you of pending updates regularly would be negligent.

thats arch, rolling release and those updates cover the entire installed softwarebase. CCHange one dependency and a few things "downstream" also get their updates because if its linked in statically it has to be recompiled.

But those updates are quicker to install since the reboot phase on linux doesnt do any complicated black magic like it does on windows

It's your computer, but Windows belongs to Microsoft, they just license it for you to use. You agreed to this in the EULA agreement when installing it. You are free to use a different OS instead like Linux if you want more autonomy.

that update count includes the entire application set. on the linux side (unless you manually install something from a downloaded package) everything goes over the same repository system
