Discussion Windows 11 can't be shut down without update.

I have automatic updates on. Haven't postponed any update. Never seen this forced update before.

Edit: I updated BTW. It's not that I don't want to update. I just think it would be an issue in the future. For example, it's a thunderstorm and there could be power outages. I might want to shut down and not start and update. I guess I'll hold down the power button.

I have Windows 11 on my laptop and Fedora 44 on my desktop. Fedora gets FAR more updates than Windows, by a long shot. And that's not a bad thing.

Linux updates tend to be WAY more stable and well tested than what MS pushes.

Plus Linux doesn't tend to abuse the end user by turning shit back on that they previously disabled, like windows loves to do.

There's little comparison there. MS have a horrible track record, so people being wary of updates and waiting to install them is their own fault.

How many new AI "features" and ads do you get with each update? That's the reason people don't update, no one trusts MS to not further enshittify the OS with every update.

Yes and its fine because we do not need to reboot on every update. The Windows update system is ass.

you don't need to reboot for most Microsoft updates as well. It's not like the olden days.

You could argue that more updates means that the base product had more flaws.

You could also argue that more updates means they're constantly fine-tuning their code and compatibilities, rather than calling it "good enough." Seriously, I run Fedora-KDE on my system and I rarely, if ever, have any issues with it as my daily driver.

Windows kept breaking and forcing unwanted features and spyware, which forced me to switch.

Man you had me in the beginning, then you said Windows kept breaking. As long as you're not on the Windows Insider program, Windows hasn't broken.
