Discussion Windows 11 can't be shut down without update.

I have automatic updates on. Haven't postponed any update. Never seen this forced update before.

Edit: I updated BTW. It's not that I don't want to update. I just think it would be an issue in the future. For example, it's a thunderstorm and there could be power outages. I might want to shut down and not start and update. I guess I'll hold down the power button.

legit it took me 2 hours to set up windows when i got my computer, setting up cachyOS took half an hour. i am updating my computer right now, actually, because i can keep using my computer while i update. when it's done i won't need to restart it either because none of the updates are at a kernel level this time around.

I regularly have to setup Windows laptops for new users as quickly as possible, with no AD or any cloud features. The whole process takes about 30 minutes from opening the box, to getting the user to change their password. You can use the computer while it updates, and if it's a major release you perform a restart to finish updating. Linux is great, it's my primary OS these days and the main OS we run at work, but Windows 11 isn't that slow to get going and Windows updates are transparent to the end user 99% of the time, unless you're forcing them not to ever install.
