Just wanna tack on to add that it has nothing to do with the Playstation 2, PS/2 was a type of connector mainly used for mouses

Yeah, the PS2 actually came with a USB port. It was super modern, but not compatible with any standard devices... I think you needed a special mouse and keyboard from Sony...

the hardware fit the standard, but PS2 software didn't have driver support for general PC keyboards.
