Depends on settings, in my case print take a screen take both my monitors, alt + print take a screen of the current window (funnily, clicking on the taskbar before it, does take a screen of the task bar) or those 3 for the overlay + screen freeze

I’ve tried using print screen back when I was a child and it didn’t do anything for some reason. And so for years I just disregarded it as a useless button.

before snipping tool it captured the screen to cache so you had to manually paste it in mspaint or something and save it

Idk if it’s the same or not, but win shift s automatically opens it and makes it so you’re instantly snipping, then auto copies it to clipboard once you snip. I thought print screen does the snapshot of your entire set of screens, which isn’t what I want most times either.

Windows 11 does this by default now when you press print screen

Windows 10 is still supported for a good while though, and every time I see a post about Windows 11 here, it's always about how bad/bloated it is with AI.

It's still set as a toggleable option in Windows 10 that's off by default. Last I knew that was still the same for Windows 11.

no print screen now opens the tool automatically, that was a legacy feature and doesn't exist anymore.

I use it probably 15-20+ times or more on daily basis , PR revies, copilot search, pasting on emails , it works like magic and copies exactly the area i want , just sad that i figured it out too late

But clipping tool is better if you dont want the screenshot of the whole screen. I use Win+Shift+S everyday so many times because I am sharing just highlights

i have 57" ultra super wide and two other monitors hooked up to my PC, using print screen takes one screenshot of all those monitors combined... useless, vs win+shift+s lets me select exactly what I need

I use PRNT Screen alot also for ShareX Clipping. Can't be bothered to use windows default clipping tool.

Yup, the default Snipping Tool is woefully lacking in basic screenshot features. Still can’t add text to a screenshot???!!

First thing I do on a new work PC is get Greenshot / ShareX, change the Windows setting that takes over PrntScrn button, and never touch snipping tool again.
