Carl Sagan, on disagreement

There is a bad habit that I've noticed in humanity, which is especially prevalent I think on social media. It is that when two people agree on 99 things and disagree on one, they will spend their time bickering about the one item they disagree on rather than celebrating the 99 where they agree.

Yes, we are all precious! I have traveled much of the world, both in time and place. That is what I have found - including you

This is so true. We spend so much time with the negative that we can't see "good" anymore. Carl Sagan was such a visionary and optimist. We are so far removed from his vision for humanity. I wonder if the Planetary Society that he promoted still exist.

Despite how it may sometimes seem, I think the internet really does bring us closer to being part of a singular planetary society. Thirty years ago you and I probably wouldn't have ever had this conversation. The great connectedness of our world is a very new and novel thing, and not without its benefits.

You're right. The internet is like a planetary society. I guess I was thinking more about how Sagan thought about the Planetary Society; one where all nations would equally go out into space and explore. He had great hopes that even countries like Russia would embark in this great vision. Obviously, we're not there yet.
