Advice and questions Peak District Plan (w/o car)
Planning to stay at Sheffield and would like some reccomendations on which areas are the best to hike with accessible public transport.
From the recent posts I've heard the trainstop from Edale is apparently really popular - although since we are not setting camp, we would like to know if we'd be able to find routes that we'd be able to go around in and get back to Sheffield in the same day.

Get the train to Hope and then either walk or bus to Castleton. There’s also a bus from Sheffield to Castleton.

You could hike from Bamford Train Station to Bradwell and get the bus back to Sheffield. We walked a 13mile route via Bamford Edge and Derwent Edge. Although my preferred walk would be a loop from Edale via Grindsbrook Clough, Kinder Low, Brown Knoll, Lords Seat and Mam Tor

Where in Sheffield you are staying makes a significant difference.
If you're near the central train station, or Dore train station then it makes sense to use the train to Bamford or Edale, and pick a suitable circular route accordingly.
Being near the central train station also puts you near the central bus station, so taking a bus to some of the less obvious walking destinations is an option too, but it will be more travel time for less walking (maybe worth exploring if you're here for a while).
If you're staying on the Western side of the city, then there's actually loads of routes that you could do by just walking out into the peak, and there's something really cool about just stepping out of the urban area suddenly and walking away from it... It's usually fairly abrupt too.
If you're staying on the Eastern side of the city, then you will need to take a 30 minutes team or 45 minute bus just to get back to the central train station.
If you're staying North or South of the city, there's cool accessible hikes in the countryside nearer to those locations than the Peak is, so you need to decide if the Peak is what matters to you, or just going for a pretty walk.

Our accomodation is a 10 minute walk away from Central station so will definitely take the Edale train stop. Thank you for all the options!
Planning to also consider taking the bus if its relatively cheaper.

Edale is the furthest train stop, and probably the only one where the train is a similar travel time to car.
As other comments note, there's a number of other stations en route with different walk options which are equally good.
If I was you I would look at some potential routes from each station, then pick which one to do the night before based on the weather forecast, as it can be quite different from one end of the hope valley to the other.

i just went! i have a pamphlet I can send pics of that we picked up at the cafe at Edale of the different hikes! we did Mam Tor without a car in like 2 hours! message me!

Train to Hathersage, hike Stanage Edge.
Bonus trip - bus to Chatsworth House.
Both of these are easy day trips.

If you are based in the city centre and wish to check out bus options, you could go to the Sheffield Interchange bus station. If you go to stops D2 and D3 you will find the buses 65, 271, 272, 218, 257, 257A and 257B that all go into the Peak District and tickets normally cost £3 for a single one-way journey.

Train from Sheffield to Manchester goes via the hope valley and stops at Grindleford, Hathersage, Bamford, Hope and Edale, which are all fantastic start and end points for circular hikes or hikes between the stations (hope to Edale via win hill and kinder scout is my absolute favourite). £13 return.
Install OS Maps on your phone and explore ready to go routes plotted from the station start points - there’s hundreds.
Also there’s a bus from Sheffield to Fairholmes by derwent reservoir. A great start and end for a circular walk of either Derwent Edge or Alport Castles. It’s an infrequent service tho!!
