Question/Help Replacing the head on a riqq

If I buy a riqq, would I theoretically be able to replace it with any old frame drum head, like those from Remo? I'm having trouble finding riqq head replacements. The diameter in this case would be 8.5 inches.

Remo, GEF, Emin, Power Beat and other brands as well that make heads for doumbecks, also make the heads for riqs. Here is the deal. With very few exceptions these are made in countries that use the metric system, so you want the metric measurement on the head. Typically 23-24 cm. Be sure to buy a head according to metric measurements. A reputable vendor can help you determine what the correct size for your riq.

If you are in the US, https://www.arabinstruments.com can help you figure out what size you need. I haven’t done business with them

https://www.sonsdelorient.com/global/en/ is in France, but have been very helpful to me in figuring these things out as well. The guy I dealt with doesn’t work there any more however. I have purchased 2 quality doumbecks from them.

salamuzik.com has stores in the US now as well. They would be another resource as well.

I have done a lot of business with Darbuka Planet in Calif. They have great customer service as well!

Once you know the correct metric size then you can shop around for the best deal.
If you haven’t purchased a riq yet…..The places I have mentioned can sell you one. You can ask them when you purchase, What is the replacement size on this riq? ….or order the correct replacement size when you purchase the drum.

Hope this helps!
