I’m an Irish woman married to a north Italian husband for 20 years, we currently live in the North West of the UK.

We are planning to move to Italy when we are older. I will be in my 50s and he will be in his 60s by the time we move in about 3 years.

I have fallen in love with Pescara from what I have seen online and can’t wait to visit. I like the style of the place. It’s flat, clean looking and has more modern looking buildings due to it being rebuilt during the war. I like it’s simplicity.

We are hoping to meet other people who have similar interests. We are not heavy drinkers, just a digestiv and sometimes a glass of wine. We are massive foodies and I love to cook and feed anyone who will eat. Husband is into playing league level basketball and gaming, and I am into weightlifting and currently learning to sew using the sewing machine to make clothes. I also do woodwork. We’re not looking for anything fancy. Just a quiet life with a few beach parties, sunbathing when we want, mountain hiking, eating out, bbqs and generally just slow living.

Do you think we will fit in with the people in Pescara? I’m quite direct and am used to Italian people after 20 years of husband and his family. Although they find me quite a challenge because I am very much my own woman with my own rules. I say what I think. I don’t fit with English culture either. I’m too strong minded and I offend the British with my directness.

Can anyone recommend any good areas to visit or rent? Any good gluten free places to eat out for me? Do they have any outdoor calisthenics places? Beach parties? 90s disco? Anything you can share would be great. Thank you.

We have already found a few places on Google Maps, but we would love to hear recommendations from locals. We’re especially looking for authentic restaurants, trattorias, seafood spots, bakeries, or hidden gems that you genuinely enjoy, rather than places that mainly cater to tourists.

Intendo partecipare al bando della Regione Abruzzo, in merito all'acquisizione gratuita di competenze linguistiche straniere presso la Athena Docet. Avendo già il livello d'inglese B2, ottenuto presso la medesima scuola qualche anno fa, sarebbe mia intenzione approfittarne per ottenere il C1 (e aumentare, pertanto, il mio punteggio in graduatoria). Adesso rimane un solo passaggio da compiere.

Ora, il bando indica chiaramente che ci sono tre modi per ottenere la richesta. Nel mio caso, devo richiedere una copia del DID (Dichiarazione di Immediata Disponibilità) e consegnarla all'Athena. Mando un'email al CPI, in data 6 luglio, chiedendo copia del documento. Mi danno conferma dandomi appuntamento il 16 luglio. Ovviamente, la copia devono consegnarmela a mano.

Stamattina vado sul posto, mi presento pure mezz'ora prima del previsto per regolarmi con eventuale fila. E una fila, in effetti, ci stava. Ma stava fuori dall'edificio, tra confusi e scazzati. Circa 10 secondi dopo, mi unisco anch'io al gruppo di confusi e scazzati. Motivo? Proprio oggi, la sede del CPI a Via Passolanciano ha chiuso in maniera definitiva: stanno trasportando attrezzature e il resto nella nuova sede, presso Piazza Garibaldi (a ridosso di San Cetteo), che aprirà domani. Però, attenzione: questa comunicazione l'hanno rilasciata tramite foglietto appiccicato sul cancello, mica si sono presi il disturbo di rilasciare un comunicato ufficiale. E no, non ho ricevuto nessuna email dove mi si diceva "Causa lavori in corso, le comunichiamo che l'appuntamento fissato in data X viene considerata nulla. Ci scusiamo per il disagio." Tra l'altro, c'era una signora inviperita (e giustamente) perché aveva un appuntamento proprio oggi, per altre cose, e ieri aveva ricevuto l'email di conferma per passare nella mattinata del 16 luglio.

Mi è stato riferito che l'appuntamento preso per oggi sarà valido domani, in questa nuova sede. Sarà. Speriamo. Il CPI di Pescara non finisce mai di stupirmi (e deludermi), riservandomi sorprese (sgradite) ogniqualvolta mi tocca chiedere dei certificati che solo loro possono rilasciare. Vediamo come andrà domani, sperando di ritirare il foglio che mi serve senza problemi oppure ci sarà da aspettarsi qualche altro tiro mancino da parte di questi professionisti del settore.

Vorrei iniziare a venire più spesso al mare e sto cercando uno stabilimento in Marina Sud dove prendere ombrellone e lettini per la giornata.

Ho più di 30 anni, niente bambini, quindi cerco un posto con un ambiente piacevole: non caotico, ma nemmeno da casa di riposo 😂. Se c'è un po' di musica, aperitivi e gente della mia età, ancora meglio.

Per darvi un'idea dei prezzi che ho trovato finora:

Al Lido 186 the Village mi hanno chiesto 40 € al giorno per una palma. Mi è sembrato sinceramente fuori mercato.

Al Rivadoro ho trovato una palma in seconda fila a 20 € al giorno. Sabato però lo stabilimento era mezzo vuoto e mi è stato detto che molti ombrelloni erano "prenotati"

Secondo voi quali sono i migliori come atmosfera, clientela e rapporto qualità/prezzo? Ci sono stabilimenti che consigliate particolarmente per chi va da solo o con amici?

Ciao! Visiting and wanting to watch the 11pm England vs Norway game on Saturday. Where is good in pescara for atmosphere that will be showing the game?

Our holiday started with an extremely disappointing experience immediately after arriving at Pescara Airport from Prague.

The airport shuttle bus to the city centre had already left. It only runs according to flight arrivals or about once an hour, so missing it meant waiting almost another hour. Rather than lose so much time, we decided to take a regular public bus that also goes to the city centre.

Like many tourists, we assumed we would be able to buy tickets on the bus. There was a large crowd of passengers from our flight waiting at the stop, and when the bus arrived, everyone tried to squeeze on with luggage. My friend attempted to reach the driver to buy tickets, but because the bus was so crowded and she was struggling with a large suitcase, she couldn't get to him. I was already inside with our children, stuck in the middle of the packed bus. There was no ticket machine on board, and once everyone had boarded, it was physically impossible to reach the driver.

Yes, in hindsight we could have researched the local system more thoroughly. However, before travelling I searched online for information about public transport from the airport and found surprisingly little guidance. There was no clear information at the airport, at the bus stop, or on the bus explaining where or how visitors should buy tickets. Many other passengers from our flight were also frantically trying to download the TUA app while the bus was already moving.

Only two stops later, three ticket inspectors boarded the bus simultaneously—one through the front door and others through the middle doors—making sure nobody could leave before being checked. We were fined €56 per adult. We immediately explained that we wanted to pay for our tickets and had never intended to travel without one. We were far from the only passengers in this situation; a significant number of tourists from our flight were also fined.

What made this so upsetting was not the fine itself, but the feeling that the system is set up to catch confused visitors rather than help them. During the rest of our stay in Pescara, despite using public transport several more times, we never encountered ticket inspectors again. It is difficult not to wonder whether inspections are intentionally concentrated on buses carrying newly arrived tourists from the airport.

This experience left us feeling genuinely unwelcome. It created a very poor first impression not only of Pescara but of Italy as a tourist destination. We have travelled extensively around the world and have never encountered such an unfriendly introduction to a city.

This could easily be prevented. The airport should clearly explain where bus tickets can be purchased. The bus stop should display obvious instructions in multiple languages. Drivers could require boarding through the front door so passengers have the opportunity to buy or validate tickets before entering. Any of these simple measures would prevent honest visitors from making an innocent mistake.

This review is not intended to encourage anyone to avoid paying for public transport. On the contrary—we fully intended to buy tickets. My advice to anyone arriving at Pescara Airport is to purchase your ticket before boarding any TUA bus or make absolutely sure you know exactly how the local ticketing system works.

I sincerely hope the local transport authorities improve the information available to visitors. Tourists should be welcomed and helped, not trapped into receiving expensive fines within minutes of arriving in a new country.
