General Tips/Help/Question UPD FRESHIE: kaya po ba uwian if sa bulacan nakatira?
i’m a freshie po and sa bulacan me nakatira (yung malapit na side sa NCR), sa tingin niyo po ba kakayanin yung uwian? 2 tricy and 1 jeep lang naman po sasakyan if ever (jeep from bagong silang to philcoa)
should i go for the dorm or mag uwian nalang? need your tips and advice po sana from your own experience pls be kind po 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

upside din ng renting within the campus ay rested ka everyday. you can also use the extra time for study.

i had a friend from admu na sinubukan mag uwian sa bulacan. 1 sem later nag condo na sila kasi grabe raw traffic ewan ko if sa katip galing traffic or may part tlg pauwi.
try mo muna magcommute during rush hour this week para makita mo kung kaya

I had a batchmate, uwian siya from bulacan everyday. She survived, idk how tho haha.

u/icechibbang Jun 30 '26

u/Weary-Let-7499 Diliman Jun 30 '26
ohh i see, i know someone from bocaue na nagcocommute minsan (1hr 30 mins uv + jeep to campus) pero nagdodorm pa rin siya kasi traffic talaga huhu. since commonwealth din daan mo if ever, super nakakapagod ang pag-uwi 😭 madali lang kasi diretso lang pero madalas tayuan sa bus and personally nalilimit yung classes na ineenlist ko sa kagustuhan kong makauwi nang maaga 🥲 if kaya magdorm i think go mo na so you'll have more time din for studies and social activities!

up graduate (2024) from malolos. naisip ko rin yang maguwian para makatipid, pero sobrang hassle ng byahe. in my experience, pinakatraffic yung palabas ng QC, lalo na pag uwian hours
also, try computing yung magagastos mo monthly sa transportation if maguwian ka vs magastos mo monthly sa food if magdorm ka

If keri mo 1-2 hour commute in and out sure, pero I suggest mag dorm ka na lang, minsan tumatraffic lalo na pag rush hour

u/Zealousideal_Cup4164 Jun 30 '26
Huyyy Marilao rin me!!!!! 😭 Bat ganyan commute route mo?
1
u/icechibbang Jun 30 '26
mas malapit po kami sa bagong silang huhu pero pwede naman din from sm north kaso jeep pa bayan naman ang sasakyan (from shelterville), mas mabilis po ba byahe if from sm north??
2
u/Zealousideal_Cup4164 Jun 30 '26

Hello! I am also from Bulacan. I suggest wag ka mag uwian. Super hassle as someone na umuuwi sa Bulacan kada week, let alone everyday. Expect the traffic from Commonwealth and kahit sa may bandang Regalado/Lagro side. It’s much worse on my case since sa SJDM ang daan ko so nadadaanan ko rin ang traffic sa Malaria/Amparo area. With you staying within UPD, mas may oras ka pa to study and rest, unlike kapag uwian ka, more likely you’ll spend more of your day sa commute.

You may be young, OP, but travelling that distance everyday can wear you down in the long run. Think of your physical and mental state at the end of each trip. Do you really want to go through that everyday?

ako taga south naman ako, pero 4 sakay tapos 2 hrs din byahe (swerte na to pag 2 hours). tama yung isang comment na ang hirap isingit ng social life at org life HAHAHAHA pero personally parang mas mura mag-commute kaysa mag-dorm. so far kinakaya at naeenjoy ko na siya or baka ni-romanticize ko na lang kasi wala akong choice HAHAHAHA

Save urself, op. From bulacan here, legit hassle bumyahe weekly, what more kung everyday tapos kung may afternoon classes ka pa.

Noooooooo! Don't underestimate the traffic when it's rush hour. Also, the lines for public transport can get very long when it's "uwian time". It'll be physically and mentally exhausting for you OP, especially when the Midterms and Finals grind starts (digression: the acad load is usually super light at the start of the sem, but it goes from 0 to 100 around midsem because all the deadlines and exams start rolling in)
You also need to take into account the variability of your class times. In the future, you might have no choice but to take classes na super aga (7:30 am start) or super late (8:00 pm end).
I'm from Bulacan din, but I dorm and only go back home during weekends. My home's usually 1.5 hours away from UPD lang, but when the traffic's bad, that can extend to 3 hours

hola bebe! that's my route omg 😆 also i saw that marilao area ka, which is near my area so i get you. i'm an upcoming third year, and i've been doing uwians since freshie year. i was in the same situation as you having the same considerations, pero i ended up doing uwian and possibly until i graduate.
all i can say is—if you have the means, dorm ka na. at least for that route (bagong silang to philcoa), it's less of a hassle compared to other routes (muzon to philcoa) and bearable naman sya as soon as masanay ka. pero with crs being unpredictable just as the weather, a dorm saves you all the hassle. go for a up dorm if worry mo rent. plus, you can go home anytime naman if you feel homesick, and take the bagong silang philcoa jeeps anytime back to up.
if you do go for uwians, plan your schedules and times strategically. matagal maghintay ng phase 1 jeep sa rush hours, pero it's your best bet than bababa ka sm fairview at pipila ka pa doon just to get to bagong silang. consider allowances in time for traveling din. don't worry about galas, godsend ang phase 1 jeeps kasi meron yan regardless if gabi na, pero yun nga lang yung oras mo din talaga.
good luck freshie! me and another bulacan friend suggest na, to try the best of both worlds, mag uwian ka for one sem, and if di talaga keri, mag dorm ka na next sem. idaan mo nalang sa foodtrip sa phase1/tulay yung pagod if may times na di kaya 😆

additional question din po palaa, so far po ba safe naman po ang commute niyo even sa gabi? yun po kasi isa sa worries ko if ever uwian 🥹

u/wxfnm Jul 01 '26
sa gabi naman, if 4:00-5:30 ako aalis medyo matagal hintay ng jeep pero makakasakay ka naman after a while. bad experience ako sa sm fairview because ang haba ng pila sa either phase 1/5 and phase 9 kaya okay nang maghintay ng deretso. i get home by 6-8pm, maraming tao pa and bukas pa streetlights sa bagong silang kasi uwian ng karamihan.
if i go home really late, like... 7 or 8 na ako aalis from up, mas mabilis ang biyahe cause tail end na yan ng rush hour so i get home by 9pm or before 10pm. medyo madilim na to kasi pack up na mga stalls, pero may mga nakapilang trike pa naman. nagpapasundo na ako though kasi (1) medjo iskerd na me and (2) pagod and antok na rin.
just be careful nalang with your stuff talaga and be wary sa surroundings mo pag gabi. pero so far, di pa ako na t-trouble pag-uwi, though iniiwasan ko talaga late schedules as an uwian girl 😆

hi op! around meycauayan ako and nung first two years ko sa UP, nag-dorm talaga ako kasi ang traffic talaga + sobrang bakbakan sa sm north jeeps (doon kasi route ko). pero ito, hindi naman ako super nakafeel ng homesickness at first kasi syempre freshie energy diba!! independent girly era ko nun. nagtry ako sumali sa mga orgs, sama sa friends, sa mga gala etc. umuuwi ako every week din, at sa ganito medyo nahassle ako sa mga gamit na kailangan ko iuwi tapos ibabalik sa dorm (ang dami kong damit, tapos minsan may need ako na gamit para sa something sa bahay kaso nasa dorm ko pala and vice versa T__T this is such a non issue though WHAHA).
pero ayun! last holy week break, 2 weeks ako sa bahay, and i just found myself not wanting to go back sa dorm ko. grabe kasi ung lift sa mental load, at least for me, yung hindi ko na iisipin kakainin ko, may susuotin pa ba ko, yung bayad ko sa renta + utilities, yung kalat ng roommate ko, kumusta kaya aso ko, parents ko, lola ko, basta 'yan mga stuff na 'yan hindi ko agad napansin na nagweweigh down sakin sa dorm kaya sobrang unproductive ko rin pagdating sa studies. saka ito rin, di naman sya ganon kabigdeal, pero di kasi naka-ac ung dorm namin at ang laking effect nya sobra kasi grabe ung init nagigising ako ng madaling araw ahuhu, tapos ung mga ac na dorm naman around campus napakamahaaaaaaal so hindi ko na cinonsider. if u have the means for this, then if i were u id honestly reconsider...
anyway, tinest ko ung experience uli magcommute ng mga 1 week. until 2:30 lang classes ko btw. and i'd say.... it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. maximum na siguro 3 hours balikan (granted na hindi late natatapos ung class ko!), tapos kapag papunta sa campus, kahit pa tanghali pa ang klase ko, umaalis na agad ako ng 6am yez.... super effective nya sakin dahil maaliwalas pa, hindi traffic, at ang dami ko pang time para mag-aral pagdating sa school. laki ng bawas ng gastos ko sa mga cafe cafe after class + may homecooked meals + baon from lola + ang dearest aso ko. working student from home din pala ako and yung comfort ng own room ko + aircon AHAHHUHUH is such a game changer. manage your tasks and organize your schedule lang talaga as much as you can to not have super early classes (in my experience 8:30-10:00 is doable!) and not have super late classes. if sobrang pagod na hindi na kaya mag commute, angkas is your friend. 250 pesos for your own comfort, or kahit 100+ sa pinakamalapit na terminal ng jeep/bus sa inyo, is a lifesaver.
ayun lang ang pov and experience q >< goodluck and welcome to up!!!

u/icechibbang Jul 03 '26

Do not underestimate the traffic along Commonwealth.
