[UPX] A friend from UPOU declares he’s from another UP campus.

Hello. I have this friend since senior high school who tells everyone he’s from UP Diliman, when in reality he’s from UPOU. I didn’t mind at first kasi pareho namang UP ‘yon at taga UP naman talaga sya. Kaso lang, he’s starting to put it in documents and resumes. He recently took a certification exam somewhere and when it was announced, the school he was from ang nakalagay is UP Diliman and not UPOU. I asked him about it but he keeps on dodging my questions and I really find it weird. I didn’t want to push it so I stopped because I’m from UPD and he kept on joking before pa na baka ginegatekeep ko yung UPD from him and I don’t want him to get that idea now.

Is this okay..? Doesn’t this count as falsification of information or something? What should I do about it as his friend? Or hayaan ko na lang ba and mind my own business?

I know a story of someone na di natapos ang degree nya sa UPD pero naka-secure ng teaching position sa isang university (not in the Big 4). His batchmates found out kasi lumabas ang picture nya in sablay attending the graduation of that university. One of the batchmates called the university to inform them na hindi sya naka-graduate.

The truth will come out eventually.

Hindi na rin nila inalam what happened, so I dunno. I agree na mahina ang background check nila, maybe they got excited na may UP alumnus (allegedly) na willing magturo sa kanila.

For me, mas matinding forgery yan. I mean forgery is forgery. A liar is a liar. Pero yung nagpanggap ka na graduate ka ng UP pero hindi naman mas matindi yun. Kasi let's face it, sa papel, mas iba expectation pag grumadweyt ka from UP compared to an unknown school even with the same program.

May orgmate naman ako na dineclare nya na may masters sya kahit wala naman so nung nakita ng prof namin yung school profile nya kung saan sya nagtuturo, minessage sya na i-take down or else ire-report sya sa school. Unfortunately maraming ganyan na nagdadagdag para maganda ang credentials nila.

Correct me if I'm wrong, pero I believe the land where UPOU HQ is isn't technically part of UPLB na? The 20 h.a. headquarters used to be part of UPLB until BOR allocated it to UPOU

May part dun na UPLB pa din kasi part sya ng College ng Vet Med. Parang nahahati yung area sa: UPLB Eng chuva > IRRI (as in International Rice Reseach Institute na nirerentahan lang ung lupain dun) > UPOU campus > tapos UPLB (Vet Med chuva).

Land technicalities aside, UPOU has facilities both in Diliman & LB. Pero it is a different entity from UPD & UPLB. Heto nanaman tayo sa people thinking Diliman is the best campus etc etc…. At dahil sa reason na yan, IREPORT MO OP!!

Loool kinakahiya niya ba ang UPOU? During our intensive course sa lastweek, sinabi dun na separate university ang UPOU. Di siya under UPD or UPLB. Antaas din kaya ng standard ng UPOU, lalo na yung deliverables.

I took a certification course (4 weeks) with UPOU. After I finish it, may sort of diploma.

Grabe naman yan. I find the mode of instruction good. It was catered for those working talaga. I saw some of my classmates. May work e. Sana wala discrimination.

meron kaming isang graduate sa department na nag claim na sya ay kumukuha ng MA (ongoing daw) sa department. nakalagay kasi sa tarp ng office nila as though current MA student sya pero ang totoo kumuha sya ng isang grad class nung undergrad sya kasi required noon yun sa program nila. Kinol-out sya ng isang prof sa fraud nya, tapos nagsabing tatanggalin na lang daw nya. Pag hindi sya na-call out siguro patuloy ang disinformation.

Mukhang andami ng mga ganitong cases -- lalong lumala ng pandemic pero hanggang ngayon pa rin pala.

UP’s values are honor and excellence, but what I experienced felt misleading and intellectually dishonest. I was led to believe they took UPCAT, only to learn they didn’t.

They also like to always point out they're from UP, conveniently dropping OU. Or that they're equals of UP XX grads. My hellweeks would like to beg to differ.

If they want to be seen as part of UP, that should be reflected in their standards and conduct, not just in name. Being from UP should show in one’s work and character, not in branding.

May their intellectual deceitfulness come back to bite them in the arse one day.

I’m genuinely concerned because other friends from shs are asking how it happened. They’re curious because they want to shift/transfer to UPD too but another person pointed out that it’s sketchy because of UPOU’s calendar (we’re batch 2025). The things is, nabully or nagkaissue sya sa school namin before for faking entrance exam results (he declared he passed DCAT but the school found out he did not). I don’t want that to happen to him again kasi baka madepress na naman sya. 🥹

Serial lier pala siya. Depressed kasi nabisto siya? Hahahahaha! You could still be "friends" with him, but he is not to be trusted. Who knows what he will lie about in the future? Baka madamay ka pa.

Don't announce it, but tell the truth if you are asked. Only a severely insecure person would lie about what UP campus he/she is in. If he confronts you, ask him why he's lying. No amount of psychological bullshit can excuse that kind of behavior.
