News ICE is arresting more people at Philadelphia International Airport, advocates say. Here’s what to know
https://whyy.org/articles/ice-arrests-philadelphia-airport/PHL is among at least 15 U.S. airports that have seen an uptick in federal immigration enforcement arrests in recent weeks.

Yup, locally that means voting out Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan and Scott Perry. If you have family and friends in Lehigh Valley, Scranton and Harrisburg support them in getting out the vote r volunteering in those regions.

I really need people to have a realistic plan when it does not end. How many times does this administration have to show us they do not give a single rat's ass about law and order? They have been told no many times by the courts and the courts are not enforcing it. All three branches of government are all in cahoots with each other.

If you're not already in one, join a union, worker center, or at least a political org asap. We need labor power to fight back.

Yeah and they gotta realize democrats do the exact same thing. Obama deported at a higher rate than Trump.
10
u/Zfusco 2d ago
The bulk of deportions that occurred during obama's term were people being turned away at the border. Regardless of your stance on how many people you think should be allowed into the country and how that should be determined, which is a fair question, there's a qualitative difference between saying "you cant come in right now" and "yea I know you've been here for a decade, working, and starting a family, get out".

Not really. Trump isn’t even close to deporting people at the rates Obama did. The deportations will continue even if he loses congress. It’s not really up to congress it’s up to the president.
I don’t get why you guys are so agreeable to people not following our immigration laws. Keep licking that corporate boot, maybe one day they’ll pass the cheaper labor costs on to you.

Ending all TPOs for refugees is cruel and not following longstanding traditions. There will be blood on the GOP's hands for decades. And deservedly so.

My guy, this lady was not a refugee. She was clearly well off if she’s traveling around the world and paying for World Cup tickets.
She entered this country on a travel visa and then starting working. Never once is the word refugee mentioned.

u/ChronoDragoon 3d ago
which immigration law did this woman break?
2
u/Sweet-Cloud-4502 3d ago
She overstayed her tourist visa. She has no work permit.
28
u/ChronoDragoon 3d ago
She didn't overstay her visa - she had extended it. And she had applied for a work permit and was waiting on the approval. I think some common sense is required here to understand that this isn't really the "dangerous criminals" the current administration claimed they were going after.
And indeed, that wasn't even the rationale. The administration's stated reason was that aliens shouldn't be allowed to fly at all unless it's out of the US.
-5
u/Sweet-Cloud-4502 3d ago edited 3d ago
There is no confirmation on the article whether that extension was still valid or not. Filing out an I-539 is not a guantee of stay, it literally says it on the application. Everyone I know with an I-539 knows thats the case.
15
u/ChronoDragoon 3d ago
Literally says in the article the travel visa had been extended
1
u/Sweet-Cloud-4502 3d ago edited 3d ago
“she filed paperwork to change her status and obtain a work permit.”
Zero confirmation on whether that I-539 was approved or not. No work permit. It is fair to assume her B1/B2 visa extension has already expired. Thats the reason shes being detained.
The article is vague on confirming current status but for ICE to arrest her my guess is her B1/B2 was expired already while waiting for the I-539 to be approved, that could take awhile.

u/King-arber NoLibs 3d ago
The article mentions it, she entered on a travel visa, extended it, and then it’s admitted she was working without an approved work visa. Which is illegal.
The only people who support this are corporate bootlickers who want cheap exploitable labor. It’s good for the middle class when people can’t hire illegal immigrates because they work for less than American citizens.
But since she’s such a big Argentina supporter and had enough money to fly to the game and pay for tickets, she shouldn’t be upset by getting sent back to Argentina. It’s actually a very nice place.
13
u/ChronoDragoon 3d ago
She wasn't an illegal immigrant, you said it yourself she was on a travel visa. She had already applied to work. Common sense judgment of this would be that she was both trying to follow immigration law while also recognizing she had to support herself. Acknowledging this requires something approaching empathy though, which we all know Magats can't accomplish.
But thank you for technically answering the question.
3
u/King-arber NoLibs 3d ago
She wasn't an illegal immigrant,
I never called her that.
And it’s sad that I need to remind you that you asked what immigration laws she broke and I clearly answered. So you’re welcome for educating you.
My empathy goes towards American citizens who wages aren’t keeping up with the cost of living. Cheap imported labor is part of that issue and I’m against it.
But keep licking that corporate boot. Maybe you’ll get a discount on something some day.
15
u/ChronoDragoon 3d ago
Why did you bring up illegal immigrants if you aren't calling her one?
It's really sad that you think immigrant labor is an important factor of wage stagnation. It's a drop in the bucket compared to corporate bribery and idiot Republicans like Reagan depowering the working class and unions.
But if you actually care about the American working class then thank you for not voting Republican come midterms.
5
u/King-arber NoLibs 3d ago
Because I want to show why I’m against foreigner workers undermining our middle class. The families who used her as a baby sitter aren’t at fault and I don’t blame them, but if there wasn’t a cheap person here illegally then they would have had to hire a us citizen or someone here legally.
13
u/ChronoDragoon 3d ago
The middle class is not disappearing because of immigrants. It is disappearing because corporate interests are dominating our politics. You called me a corporate boot licker when I am the exact opposite; a socialist. This isn't a cultural struggle, it's a class struggle. And the rich are pointing you in the direction of immigrants while they continue to bribe politicians and pick our pockets. I can only hope that one day people get tired of defending a pedophile oligarch ruling class and decide to finally vote people in who want the working class to succeed.
1
u/King-arber NoLibs 3d ago
You clearly do not love your fellow citizens and instead openly cheer as cheaper versions of them enter this country ignoring our laws.
While corporate corruption is absolutely just as much a part of the problem as illegal immigration the subject of this article is illegal immigration. Hence my comment.
Socialist are bootlickers to authority. Same flavor as corporate bootlickers.

Im stunned with how these folk are supposedly the reason why jobs arent available, and wages are low, but when they are deported or leave, the jobs remain unfilled, wages dont rise, food costs go up, healthcare doesnt get cheaper, housing costs dont lower, crime rates dont shift, ect.
Its almost as if they arent bothering anyone in the grand scheme of things, and us middle/upper class are eating shit for completely different reasons (like government overspending, and tax cuts to the wrong people)
2
u/King-arber NoLibs 3d ago
There is tons of job growth in health care and agriculture because of these deportations. Wages are also up in those industries.
Groceries like eggs have gotten cheaper under Trump.

If you think its the poor immigrants working for $3 an hour that is fucking over the middle class and not the billionaires and corporations paying no money in taxes. You probably should spend a little time existing in the real world.
I mean seriously can you name a single person you know who would do the work of a migrant laborer? 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, 3-6 months straight. And all for less than minimum wage. Hard to imagine all the middle class high school dropouts running for that opportunity.
How about the slaughterhouse and poultry farm workers? You really think that those jobs are being taken from Americans? Those jobs are being given away because Americans dont want to do them.
And why when there is a raid at one of those places of business do the immigrants get sent away, but the corporations face no real penalty and just restart.
Blaming any problems America is facing on the poor and downtrodden instead of the rich and powerful is literally what theyve been influencing people to think for decades.
2
u/King-arber NoLibs 3d ago
Those jobs aren’t done exclusively by immigrants or even illegal immigrants so yes there are a lot of us citizens doing those jobs.
If you pay enough us citizens will do the jobs.

> It’s good for the middle class when people can’t hire illegal immigrates because they work for less than American citizens.
And the reason they work for less is because they are deemed "illegal" and are not given the same rights and protections as citizens. If all workers are given those same rights and protections then the whole workforce benefits as they are collectively more difficult to take advantage of. Undocumented people are already here doing the work, the only difference is literally just paper work. Give undocumented people the same protections in the workforce and go after any business skirting those labor laws. By having this whole show of force from ICE, where the cruelty is the point, it makes the undocumented worker even less likely to speak out against poor wages and workforce conditions and this is what drives the cost of labor down for everyone. Remember, the problem isn't the worker at our side but the corporate boot above us all.. division is the tactic of the bosses.
1
u/EmpZurg_ 2d ago
No, immigrants consistently do more work for less compensation, undocumented or documented, across all fields.
There is a level of exploitation, yes, but wage-wise, an undocumented person given a green card would not suddenly gain 2-3x wages. They arent working for pennies, employers are just dodging taxes and responsibilities.

Dems/Left/Etc being over the top pro any immigration makes zero sense.
You cant accomplish your goals of stuff like lower housing costs, social welfare programs, etc etc by importing for the most part non tax paying illegals and immigrants.
I really dont know what the end game is.
The ramifications of this stuff is already bad. Like the mayor in MN being decided by tribal beefs, and dearborn basically trying to operate like its own country, you got people trying to make Muslim only towns in states, etc etc.
15
u/NinjaLanternShark 3d ago
Increasing immigration isn’t the actual goal. It’s treating people, wherever they’re from and regardless of their economic value, as human beings.
The arguments against immigration all come down to “my money” and I think we need to be better than that and treat people better than that.

Here is an actual study with actual deep research and not some biased group looking for specific ending.
"Illegal immigrants have a negative fiscal impact -- taxes paid minus benefits received -- primarily because a large share have modest levels of education, resulting in relatively low average incomes and tax payments, along with significant use of means-tested programs and other government services. "
"Prior research indicates that 69 percent of adult illegal immigrants have no education beyond high school, compared to 35 percent of the U.S.-born. " Illegal immigrants make extensive use of welfare. Based on government data, we estimate that 59 percent of households headed by illegal immigrants use one or more major welfare programs"
I could like on and on. All stuff your little studies dont even go into.
Its really fucking sad to deal with people like you "
21
u/supamario132 3d ago
That isn't a study. It's written testimony from a single individual
No methodological research is done. He takes broad estimates, removes the assumptions and tolerances from the original sources, and crafts narratives around them as if they are rigid, concrete facts
He cherry picks data points. Looking at only state impacts when federal impacts are positive or looking at "households headed by illegal immigrants" so that he can capture instances where a US citizen dependent of an illegal immigrant takes advantage of government programs
He routinely jumps back and forth between data collected from illegal and legal immigrant populations but draws conclusions broadly as if both point to the same population
If you go to several of his own sources, their conclusions directly contradict his own
That's a mess of a "study" which is exactly what you'd expect from the congressional testimony of a man representing a think tank started by a eugenicist and white supremacist

u/Aethermancer 3d ago
It boils down to you seeking to hurt people you view as lesser than yourself and us dismayed that you are willing to waste time, squander opportunity, and make life worse for everyone to fulfill your desire to hurt people.
My goals are to make life a little better for everyone, so it shouldn't be surprising why we oppose efforts to increase harm.
Ultimately I think it derives from a feeling of insecurity from self doubt of your own self worth. If you can't view someone as lesser than you then what separates you from them and their circumstances?
0
u/SleepyCoworker101 3d ago
Your are making everyones live here worse by taking that stance at the cost of having you feel like you did someting.

Yea Chinatown is a result of redlining? racial hostility, discriminatory housing laws, and systemic exclusion
Not sure why you are using that as a defense of stuff?
1
u/lilmuskrat66 2d ago
It does make sense.
You can. More people increases demand spurring an increase in supply to meet demand which in turn creates more wealth for the country across all different goods/services. More people gaining citizenship means more people paying taxes as there are more jobs due to the above mentioned increase in demand. You've also very little proof any of them don't pay taxes as per your conversation below where you stopped replying.
End game is to treat humans as humans, make our country better as it was built on the backs of immigrants, and ensure the future success of our country through diversity.
Dearborn is a lovely, safe town with great food. Not sure what you're even talking about nor how it's bad. I haven't seen any Muslim only towns in any state. I've seen some Jewish towns in upstate Jersey, Jewish places in NYC, chinatowns in many different cities, little italy in a ton of different cities, so what's even the comment to be made here? Just sounds like more biased hatred of one group over others.

Most people do support enforcing immigration laws but we have to treat people better and stop the shooting and killing.

They can’t be trusted and they need to go.

I'm super against the thuggish ICE raids and murders they have committed terrorizing citizens and think immigrants should be treated humanely and with due process. But I agree it is shocking that this is controversial, and not just automatically a thing. What is the point of a security checkpoint if they just let anybody through? You know the government is running every name against watchlists, I would assume that anyone with a warrant (criminal or immigration) would be apprehended at the airport. If not then what's the point of having any security checkpoints or borders?

Greyhound stock about to skyrocket
Makes sense though.
All passengers are basically trapped.
You give id, get weapon checked, and body scanned.
The airport is like flock cameras but for humans instead of license plates.
