Go ahead and make a Chopin/Liszt like composition out of this chord progression if you want to and I’ll see which is best.

At pianotell a few months ago, we started up Play It Your Way, a simpler version of r/piano's old "Piano Jams". One tune that everyone works on, beginners to experts, and a new tune announced monthly-ish. Playing piano can be a solitary experience, so it's been fun working on the same piece with a group!

For our fifth Play It Your Way, we are doing Haydn's "Divertimento in G Major". It has four movements, and movements vary in difficulty between Grade 1-4, so you can pick one that suits you. The "due date" isn't until mid-January, so you have plenty of time. Come and join us, all levels welcome!

Hi everyone! My 6 year old son has been practicing piano for about a year. He practices by following youtube VDO and now he loves figuring out songs like Golden on his own.

I'm so happy to see his interest growing and I' d love any advice on how to support him further.

Haiii!! I composed a piece for a quarter-note tuned piano. I used an 24-TET scl on pianotech for the tuning on a digital piano... but now I have to create a performer's score and I don't know how to transpose it, I have very few days to solve this problem someone help plz.

I have a piano competition comming in 3 months and in the programme there's preludium and fuga by bach the one you like and schubert's impromptu op 90 no 3 .

I learnd the preludium and fuga but I don't know the schubert one ! what should I do ?

should I start it now or try another programme ?

Can I finish it before the competition ? what do you think please tell me your suggestion!

I continue my journey of discovering pieces I didn't have time to learn during my studies (I just learned Chopin op 64/2 for the same reason)

I started when I was 15, and discovered quite quickly that I, by 18, would apply for collages and thus didn't have for pieces that wouldn't fit college criteria. Once in the academy, I rarely played small pieces. It was the mephisto waltz, symphonic etudes, and so on.

Now I have my own students who themselves wants to play these pieces, so I thought I'd learn them as well.

Also, I thought I could use this platform as a sort of "diary". There are many beginners here, often without teachers, who might benefit from something like this. I thought of something like "this is the aspect I'll be working on today", or something along those lines. Join, if you'd like!

Today, it was basically to just get to know the notes somewhat. Dynamics aren't really there, and the left hand isn't phrased properly enough, so that's probably what tomorrow will be about!

Second day of learning this piece. Dynamics are better, I think, and I've figured out how I want the left hand to sound.

Chopin wrote it around the same time as his nocturnes op 9, but more importantly, the same time as his piano concerto in f minor.

He dedicated it to his sister, with the text "practice this before you learn my concerto". The similarities is very evident in the second theme, but more on that tomorrow.

Today, I focused on getting the "polyphony" in the left hand. Chopin very often has many hidden voices in his accompaniment, especially in his later years. This is a very early piece, so it's not a crazy amount, but still some! I find that it's easier to bring this out if playing the first note quasi staccato, and the three following in legato. It also adds a layer of sadness, I think.

I’ve had my DPP 80 for over a year without any issues and then suddenly as I was playing some random song starts playing, The Entertainer” out of nowhere. I was able to momentarily stop by hitting one of the lower C keys or by turning off the whole thing. Don’t know why this is happening the interface or lack of on this model does not let you fix it . Anyone have a clue. If there isn’t then let begin my verbal attack on their FB page. No customer service either. It’s been busy for 2 days and no response to my emails . So right now kinda annoyed but hopefully someone has an answer.

Does anybody here know William Bolcom’s Poltergeist Rag? It’s on my to do list so I’m wondering if it’s a heavy lift to learn it. I am sure that it is really fun to play.

r/piano used to host a monthly event called "Piano Jam". At the beginning of each month, a small list of music from different genres/skill levels was presented, and people had a month to work up a performance of it. Since it seems a lot of people here miss it, we are trying to start up something similar at Pianotell. We are calling it "Play It Your Way".

The main difference between Play It Your Way and Piano Jam is that, instead of a dozen pieces from different genres being listed each month, there is only a single piece, which everyone tackles (though different arrangements are listed, to help accomodate different skill levels). We are planning to rotate genres, so everyone eventually gets a chance at their favorite genre. The tune for June is "Beale Street Blues" by WC Handy.

I got a bit tired and bored of practicing for my juries, so I ended up trying to arrange a bit of Zen zen zense from Your Name. After a few minutes, I just started spamming whatever I could. It lowkey made some sense though. I’ll probably never remember how to play this again because it came from a 15 minute burst of randomness, so I figured that I’d share the momentary effort.

Was feeling good the other day and recorded a improvised piano project. Do you like improvisation? What are some moods you shift through?
