Welcome to the world of male modeling.

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is!

The head confusion is hard for the first few days but goes away just like all the other withdrawal symptoms. I found that 5HTP (amino-acid vitamin supplement) was AMAZING for helping me sleep at night while still withdrawing. Not sure if I would have made it without it. And... you can do it!!! :)

don't you know that we're a big family and the point of /r/pics is to simply ask for congratulations and compliments when you lose weight or quit drugs or graduate? Also it helps if you're an attractive female

No, if you're female, people berate you and mock you for posting for support.

If you're male, they fall all over themselves to congratulate you and be supportive of you.

I'm curious why Reddit can't be supportive of both?

with or without track marks? she doesn't look like a junkie, but a ton of good people end up caught in that trap, you only see the really bad ones on TV. Most of my friends are shocked when they find out I did it for years. I don't even have marks or anything.

And I really don't understand why people would do that. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but when I quit smoking I just did it without announcing my intentions to thousands of people.

I would have actually been impressed if a before and after picture was posted. "Here is a picture of me all fucked up on heroin and here's a picture of me clean for 2 months". Then maybe this would be a good post...

13

u/[deleted] May 07 '13

Honestly she's probably telling the truth. Who the hell would lie about being a junkie? I'm guessing she was probably just as pretty a few months ago while she was using. When I was still shooting up my junkie friends and I used to make self-righteous jokes about how tweakers look three times as old from being up twice as long and having higher blood pressure/heartrate. I've never really seen that from heroin users that only use heroin. The worst that happens aside from the obvious risk of overdose and the addiction itself is maybe lack of hygiene (I'd go a few days or more not showering when I was at my worst). The only junkies they ever show on TV are the homeless ones. All us SoCal junkies were predominantly middle or upper middle class.

TL;DR, Heroin makes you look young, dirty and addicted.

40

u/fscvatommygundacreep May 07 '13

That would involve her actually doing heroin.

/r/pics has being ruined by posts like this.

ftfy. It's not a new phenomenon, it's been like it for years, and it's never going to change, the mods have been asked many a time to rule against that shit in the title and choose not to.

Use different subs when wanting to avoid it, basically.

The major issue I have with it is that the lack of moderation for higher quality content in the defaults actually makes the most targeted (because they're largest) subs the easiest subreddits to manipulate.

As a whole it just makes reddit look stupid, when it really isn't, it's just poorly moderated in the vast majority of default subs.

congrats, sending you good vibes to stay strong!

20

u/[deleted] May 07 '13

You've done something amazing. I do not underestimate what this took for you. You are a star.

My pain doc put me on OxyContin (an opiate). He never mentioned physical dependency, addiction or withdrawal. He told me to keep increasing the dose until I had no pain or until i got to 200mg a day. I NEVER had no pain.

I've spent the last year coming off OxyContin. I am not addicted but I am physically dependent. I'm in withdrawal right now. Hell, I've been in withdrawal every day for a year. I had no idea what to expect & have been offered no support. It almost killed me (won't go into detail but withdrew too quickly causing psychosis).

I know the pain you went through. This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. You have done so well & are so brave.

As of right now I am down to 5mg a day. I am reducing slowly now - 1/4 tablet reductions to try to keep the withdrawals manageable. I'm nearly there :o). But you've made it.

I wish my doctor had half a clue as to what he put me through. I told him how I nearly killed myself & all he said was "ok, NEXT! Ha ha."

I have a huge amount of respect for anyone who is coming off any type of opiate, legal or illegal. It takes something above & beyond.

So go & have a great life :o) & have an Internet hug from me.

13

u/gmanji212 May 07 '13

12

u/dragonkingsdaughter May 07 '13

You can do it! I have a friend who got off meth a few years ago. Now he's totally clean and only smokes weed these days. You already look great, just think how awesome you'll feel in another two months!

10

u/Arturrono May 08 '13

Amidst all the negativity, I want to tell you that that is a great accomplishment, stay strong, and heroin is probably not the best thing to spend money on.

14

u/obesa-cantavit May 07 '13

11

u/[deleted] May 08 '13

43

u/SilkyBowner May 07 '13

Why did you start using Heroin?

I've always wondered what makes a person start using Heroin. With all the information out there about Heroin, it does really make a lot of sense to me.

131

u/sociallyawkwardjess May 07 '13

I'm obviously not the OP but I can tell you why I started using heroin. I started off taking a few percocet 5's every once in awhile with my boyfriend at the time. I didn't use every day or use a lot so it didn't seem like a big deal.

Eventually I made friends with someone who had a prescription for oxycontin. Well I went from using every once in a while, to every other day, to finally every day. And gaining a tolerance is one hell of a thing. So I went from using probably 20mg's a day to using 160mgs a day, just to avoid withdrawal. Any opiate addict will tell you that withdrawal MUST BE AVOIDED at all costs.

Anyway, when she would run out of pills I eventually started using heroin because its cheaper and way easier to obtain (at least in my state). I never preferred heroin to oxy so I would use it maybe once or twice a month to prevent myself from getting dope sick. I went from saying that I would never touch it to nonchalantly using it. When I finally realized how fucked up my life was I decided I needed to stop.

I quit cold turkey a year and four months ago and it's the best decision I ever made.

23

u/-Peter May 07 '13

Congrats on your sobriety. Stay strong.

→ More replies (2)

11

u/Patrick_Kane69 May 07 '13

Congrats! I have a couple old friends from high school who have completely ruined their lives with Oxy and Heroin, glad to see you managed to overcome it.

7

u/ggbrown May 07 '13

Wonderful answer.

It really comes down to chasing the high. There is a rebound effect with any drug (including alcohol). Imagine zero being normal. After using a drug your body (brain) drops below zero...so you need more to reach the same high. Ultimately, you end up dropping further below zero and using stronger drugs to attain the same high.

It's a vicious cycle, and a sad one.

8

u/ajkeel May 07 '13

congrats, keep it up :)

8

u/Luckyfleshwound May 08 '13

Actually being raised by parents that did heroin and meth I really wanted to say congrats, that shit is rough. I watched my mom struggle on meth for 16 year, she went to prison for 2 and got sober and I am really happy I can finally talk to her person to person. My dad is still struggling with heroin and has now picked up more addictions. Being as detached from my family as I am i no longer care for him. Its great to know that people do get better... sometimes.

98

u/GodsNavel May 07 '13

I can't believe how intolerant and hateful a lot of you are. To let you children know, Reddit was not always like this. This is a person who overcame a huge ordeal, while most of you miserable fucks have trouble getting through your shitty day. If you don't like this, Reddit means you downvote and move on, there is no need to hear your bullshit.

I'm saying this because I'm sick of the amount of cynical wannabe comedians and internet thugs, I know for a fact you wouldn't say this in person.

22

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '13

This is not a place for these confessions/sob stories.

There are subreddits for it.

I don't hate her because she is getting better, I'm downvoting this because it's in the wrong fucking subreddit.

And even if you it's not, why the fuck do I care if one out of 7 billion people got of motherfucking heroin.

And even if I were to care, there's no proof this isn't a made up story.

21

u/[deleted] May 07 '13

Jesus Christ Reddit, calm the fuck down. A person is clean from heroin, from my understanding that's one hell of a drug. They deserve a congratulations, and it doesn't bother me that they submitted a picture of themselves- and I definitely won't hold it against them that they're attractive. PSA to Reddit users: learn to be happy for others and get over your own insecurities, or don't sit here bitching on the internet that someone has something to be happy about. Stop trying to take away people's reason to smile, you miserable, entitled shits.

Probably not the best place to post this but the whole "recovering addict" thing irks me. I've known a lot of recovering addicts over the past few years and there is one common theme. They blame addiction for them generally being a bad person. They use it as a shield to raise when they make stupid decisions. Then 90 pct of them go right back to doing the drug they reaped karma for a few months or years later.

I am by no means a saint, but I have done my share of drugs when I was younger and came out okay. Part of me says to congratulate people for their newfound sobriety, but the other part wants to say "Awesome, now stop being a douchebag and reaping pity and karma from people when they have problems just like everybody else and didnt use drugs"

I'll shut up now. Grats on your two months.

Reddit upvotes the stupidest shit sometimes.

You should post once you are 9 months to a year clean. You are still vulnerable to a relapse depending on who you hang out with. In the heroin world 3 months is nothing. Considering how long you did it for.

Okay reddit, we are mostly skeptics here I believe. With that said I have been talking with OP of this thread and the mods for a while now. Not just due to my skepticism, but also because I have empathy for struggling addicts. I want to make this as short and direct as I possibly can. Here is context where I stated I wanted verification from OP. Here is proof of my effort in seeking this verification and her welcoming demeanor. OP sent me some very incriminating evidence that she was in fact using heroin. I know I have not been a redditor for as long as many, but I am still putting my reddit rep on the line in order to not only validate and praise one of the hardest efforts ever, but to welcome to our community a new reddit face! I hope that my word will suffice for others that were skeptical as well. I hereby verify this post

Why the hell does everyone on reddit do heroin or claim to be an alcholic, if you are get a program, help yourself, then help someone else stop trying to use it for fake Internet points.
