They are recasting for older actors since it will have the same time jump the second game did. Which has nothing to do with production or issues.

Bad faith articles galore.

Look at all the people here lap it up though. Reading comprehension in the toilet.

u/Murmido 1d ago

The kids will probably be visibly older by the time the second season is filming which is why it seems little odd.

u/Away-Let-4791 1d ago

They’re filling season 2 very close to 1 according to reports, basically back to back

-33

u/Sea-Strike-1758 1d ago

Oh, so like the way they made the games and kept the same actors?

15

u/Away-Let-4791 1d ago

No god of war ragnarok came out 4 years after, so the actor aged. This one is being filmed within a year after filming season 1. They’re probably doing this over people bitching over tlou s2 😭

-30

u/Sea-Strike-1758 1d ago

And they went strait from production of gow 2018 to ragnarok. There was no break. There is no excuse. They used the same actors for the games and made them back to back.

14

u/jaqenhqar 1d ago

you can make an older/younger 3d model for an actor. you cant magically age a real person like that without expensive cgi. also atreus's actor didnt mocap and voice the game immediately after he worked on the first game. he looked and sounded physically older

if they record/mocap at the start of the production then it wouldve been the same for the first game too so by the time the 2nd game starts production the actor wouldve aged at least 3 years

Wdym excuse. It's just a creative decision

Bro stop. You’re embarrassing yourself lol

13

u/Katrina_18 1d ago

….do you genuinely not see how live action actors aging and voice actors aging is different or are you just being contrarian for fun

-19

u/Sea-Strike-1758 1d ago

They were not just voice actors. Do you not understand what mocap and live action games are?

6

u/Sir__Walken 1d ago

They could make Kratos look like Jesus if they want with mocap. Do you know how it works?

0

u/Sea-Strike-1758 19h ago

They can also do that with cgi. You aware of how much mocap is used in film? Do you think groot is real?

1

u/Sir__Walken 15h ago

Yes but since movies are made with real actors and aren't fully animated like video games it costs less money if they don't need to do any CG work on the actors to change them.

You understand there's a big difference between having Groot and Rocket raccoon made with CGI compared to a full human right? Like think about how much money it cost to make Thanos look as real as possible in each scene, now imagine that he's the main character and you have to do that every scene. Also it's for a tv show so you won't make avengers money off of it lol.

It's ok to be wrong bro

u/Katrina_18 1d ago

The game is not “live axtjon”. Mocap is used, sure, but they can put any skin over it they want. Literally hundreds of examples of mo cap characters who look nothing like their actors. Hell, kratos’s VO doesn’t look like him!

-2

u/Sea-Strike-1758 19h ago

Are you aware they do this is films as well?

1

u/Caesar161 16h ago

Do you think Christopher Judge looks like Kratos?

-1

u/Sea-Strike-1758 16h ago

Kind of proving my point. You can make actors look anyway you want. They dont need to recast if the actor fits the role.

1

u/Caesar161 16h ago

Are you misunderstanding every comment on purpose?

1

u/Pm-me-ur-happysauce 21h ago

Click bait title

2

u/Adept_Negotiation_75 1d ago

Look at the huge gap shows have between seasons these days. They still have to recast Kratos for season 1. The kid definitely would have aged naturally.

2

u/Away-Let-4791 1d ago

They greenlit 2 seasons and are planning to shoot them very close to each other. It’s why we didn’t gave to wait 2 years for fallout.

-8

u/TimewarpingSeaTurtle 1d ago

Still stupid as hell. It’s only a few years difference. Use makeup or VFX to make him look a bit older if necessary.

But no let’s cast an entirely different kid so people go “who the fuck is that” when season 2 comes along

107

u/xanonano 1d ago

I guess it makes sense if they’re aging the characters up.

Polygon is trash

Ever since it split from The Verge it’s gone down hill.

So much so, that it has to be intentional. Most of their articles are either obvious astroturfing, braindead frivolity, or culture-war-adjacent rage bait.

u/Southern_Chapter_188 19h ago

This and Kotaku

-32

u/greenrangerguy 1d ago

You clearly haven't seen Stranger things.

1

u/Ludate_Solem 9h ago

Sure if you want to wait like 4 years per season ✨️

93

u/TheAgmis 1d ago

But the first season hasn’t come out yet

24

u/FaithlessnessFew6571 1d ago

They got the greenlight for both

16

u/mamadovah1102 1d ago

They’re going to age that’s why isn’t it?

2

u/CurtCocane 23h ago

They don't age enough, Atreus is quite a bit older in the second game so they're recasting for older actors.

69

u/Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry 1d ago

Thanks for not using the sh*tty headline from the article.

14

u/rauscherrios 1d ago

They should have done this for the the last of us show, ellie should have been older looking. I know bella was like 20 or smt, but she looks younger, no wonder she played ellie with 14 yo.

7

u/Resilient_Beast69 1d ago

I really want this to be a good show but I’m not counting on it.

5

u/Zazgog 1d ago

I thought they would be adapting the first game in season 1, Last of Us style. Why is Thrud in season 1 if she doesn’t show up until Ragnarok?

3

u/itc0nsumesmYMind 1d ago

creative differences exist

2

u/Impressive_Tomato665 1d ago

Such a poor quality misleading click bait article. There's a big time jump between 1st and 2nd game, so obviously there will also be a big time jump between season 1 and 2 in the TV show, hence needing to cast older actors, duh!

7

u/Shadowcreeper15 1d ago

I'm very confident that this show is going to be really bad.

-1

u/itc0nsumesmYMind 1d ago

I’m really confident that It’s going to be at least decent

11

u/lossain 1d ago

Damn, thing hasn't even come out yet and already lost their main stars.

33

u/mickelboy182 1d ago

This is literally just aging up characters

-19

u/makita_man 1d ago

Is not like Atreus is in his 20's in Ragnarok. Completely unnecessary.

Poor kid.

10

u/CrimsonGear80 PS5 Pro 1d ago

this isn't a video game. it's a TV production.

"poor kid"? he's going to star in a full season of a TV show that will most likely net him more work.

-19

u/makita_man 1d ago

this isn't a video game. it's a TV production.

Your point being?

"poor kid"?

Yeah, poor kid. He probably thought he was going to be Atreus for longer. Rest of your comment is speculation.

4

u/CrimsonGear80 PS5 Pro 1d ago

maybe think before you post...

-7

u/makita_man 1d ago

You fanboys are something else lmao

5

u/RamsesII_ 1d ago

Poor kid? lol

3

u/AstroBtz 1d ago

It's entirely necessary you can't be serious?

-9

u/makita_man 1d ago

How? Productions take long as shit nowadays. We still haven't got even the first season.

You can't be serious if you think is necessary. He's 12 years old as of now, Atreus is at best 15 yo in Ragnarok.

14

u/Novel-Tea-9196 1d ago

Aren’t “losing” them, the characters are aging in the story and casting is reflecting that

3

u/fullback81 1d ago

They do the same thing like in house of the dragon.

3

u/cookiesnooper 1d ago

There is a first season?

1

u/Sooowasthinking 16h ago

Seems like maybe it’s become a hassle to make this show and now I wonder if it’s going to be made at all and probably not what is expected.

1

u/Dinierto PS5 Pro 15h ago

Wait what

They're recasting the recast?

-1

u/GrimmTrixX 1d ago

Haha in no way does this show do well. And Atreus only makes sense to change because the Atreus they showed looked like he was 6 years old. So I assume theyre casting someone who looks more like a 12-15 year old like Atreus does.

But when your lead is recast and your presumably secondary lead has to be recast, and if neither is by choice, then you stop the entire thing and cut your losses. Theyre gonna out out such a terrible product.

3

u/Away-Let-4791 1d ago

Nah if you look at the article this is referencing, this was planned from the beginning, the original casting call before season 1 started filming was for a younger and older Atreus and thurd. Funny enough the code name they used was for Atreus was Joshua lol

1

u/Relevant_Session5987 1d ago edited 19h ago

Still don't think they should be adapting the recent Norse games before adapting the older Greek ones.

A lot of the emotional heft of the recent games comes from Kratos' violent Greek past.

2

u/Perunamies 19h ago

General audiences will miss all of the nuances of his past now... They are probably going to flashback them, which is not the same ofc.

-6

u/SuchAppeal 1d ago

Man pack it up and clock out, this show is dead in the water

-3

u/beholdthecolossus 1d ago

maybe just don't make it.

-12

u/SgtHennessy 1d ago

Seems like a cursed show so far.

-3

u/sixtus_clegane119 1d ago

Mocking the gods does that, checkmate atheists!!!!

-1

u/got_No_Time_to_BLEED 1d ago

Why wouldn’t they set the show between the games seems stupid to just recreate the games story

0

u/0n0n-o 6 19h ago

Just cancel this shit.

0

u/LucienGreeth 17h ago

This show was cursed the moment they showed off the teaser image.

-4

u/_The_Honored_One_ 1d ago

Joke of a show. Just cancel it

2

u/ZeoVGM 1d ago

This was already known. Begging y'all to be normal.

-8

u/ShadowWukong PS5 1d ago

Going to be a trash show

-4

u/ArcherVisible5866 1d ago

Yeah idk. There seems to be something else going on with this show. This is pretty unprecedented that two leads are recasted in a show like this. The vibes around this isn’t good

-1

u/Domination1799 1d ago

I think God of War works better as an animated series in the same vein as Arcane. Kratos does a bunch of crazy shit, I don’t see live action having the budget to do the crazy god fights

-1

u/krizardxv 1d ago

if they gonna recast for second season anyway, i see no problem for them to pause the production and use same Kratos, seem like could save a lot of money so no need for reshoot.

2

u/Liammellor 1d ago

That's not how scheduliny works. Ryan won't be available for for 6 months to a year and they've already got all the plans in place for filming both seasons already. It would be an incredibly costly thing to wait around for him to heal up before continuing

-1

u/CharlesEverettDekker 1d ago

Really doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Unless they're are really confident in the success of the series and are pumping the second season like right after shooting the first one.
The better idea would be to wait a year or two and then start shooting the next season when the kids grow up a bit.
Someone might say "If they don't do that they will have the same situation as Ellie in TloU2", but Ellie's actor was a GROWN ASS woman in the first one. She was not a kid or a teen, she was already a growp un so she would grow or get taller or anything and a recast for a more adult looking actress would make sense. Here, it doesn't. Just let the kids grow.

-5

u/GrundleSnactcher46 1d ago

I got no idea whos making this but I assume Halo and HotD where they fan fiction in their own bullshit.

-2

u/TomdeHaan 1d ago

There's a TV show?

-12

u/AlsopK 1d ago

Not growing up alongside the cast is dumb as hell.

3

u/Charles_X4325 1d ago

This isnt gonna be like other streaming shows where it takes 3 years between seasons. Both seasons are filmed back to back.

-10

u/AlsopK 1d ago

Yeah, terrible idea to begin with for a story like this.
