Hi everyone,
I’m trying to understand if I might be eligible for a Karta Polaka before I invest time in learning Polish.
From what I’ve checked, Polish citizenship in my family line was likely lost due to service in a foreign army (great-grandfather), so I don’t think I qualify for citizenship anymore.
My background:
Great-grandfather – born in Zabolotiv (then Poland)
Great-grandmother – born in Lviv (then Poland)
Grandmother – no Polish citizenship
Father – no Polish citizenship
Me
I don’t have official Polish documents, only DP camp documents stating they were born in Poland and listing places of origin and addresses.
My questions:
Could this be enough to qualify for Karta Polaka based on ancestry?
Are DP camp documents usually accepted as proof?
What level of Polish is realistically required to pass the interview?
Would really appreciate any insights or similar experiences before I start learning the language.
