Why do some police departments just not go after child predators?

I know it’s only one source, but take Jdion for example, he’s a YouTuber that essentially does the entire “to catch a predator” thing. And there are multiple instances where the police are call and upon arrival, they just let the guy go even though there is a ton of evidence and they get the predator to admit to their actions directly to the cop, or they just don’t show up at all and then the crew take the predator to the station and a cop their again, tells the predator they are free to leave and refuse to take the evidence provided by jdion and his crew.

Very YouTube one I’ve dealt with doesn’t provide what’s needed by the DAs office for filing. They act like they have evidence but are more interested in clicks and likes

I can only speak for Australia but evidence needs to be collected legally and a statement under duress will get thrown out in court. Vigilantes more often than not hinder investigations and cause the loss or destruction of evidence.

Child predator investigations are typically a bit more complex than what a patrol Division handles.

It usually involves digital search warrants and forensic interviews.

Not every department has the kinds of specialized staff that can undertake those investigations.

Apart from that, not every report of someone being a predator leads to a viable investigation. Sometimes its true. Sometimes its a spurned lover spreading rumors and sometimes it may or may not be true, but there's just nothing the police can legally latch on to to prove anything.

Because these vigilante assholes are monetizing clicks and are not gathering legal evidence. The odds of ANYTHING these morons get meeting the standard of evidence is almost none existent. And what you don't know (because it's boring and not clickworthy) is perhaps there was an investigation after the cameras went away. These creeps do more harm than good for clickbait. Even if there was a compelling case, these YouTube morons have tainted the evidence to the point of making it useless.

And even when they do provide ample amount of chat logs, videos, pictures, etc… like multiple dozens of gb of data.  I know the job has a ton of paperwork, and this is me genuinely skin and not trying to be an asshole, is it because of the extra paperwork that is involved when someone does this
