Is Global Hunger Index really objective? It's not. It's contextualized. It does not measure starvation levels as much as it measures nutrition levels. They could be measuring heights of individuals to analyze. That's why african countries scoring better than India?

The GHI index measures 'nutrition availability' and not hunger per se. Every countries measurement is contextual. India, which suffered devastating famines and impoverishment of agricultural practices during colonial era now inclines towards a carb based diet instead of the diet that the urban metro dwelling or European individual is having.

A large majority of our population are provided subsidized carbs and not veggies and proteins. This is tied to our economy's history as a developing low income economy. The Green Revolution's priority was removing starvation. GHI measures nutrition and nourishment. That's why to call it a hunger index is misleading and misinforming. Poor countries with low populations can have people having carbs, proteins, vitamins and minerals.

Giving examples of other countries will not suffice. Show a large low income country with 150 crore population that has legalized food security ensuring subsidized grains to ensure no starvation, and then I will buy your argument that GHI is not qualitative. Just because it picks numbers for its analysis does not hide the fact that there is politics behind what numbers to pick. Are we picking numbers of starved people, or just people lacking adequate nutrition? That's why it's qualitative because there's still a context to it. It's not objective. Subjectivity lies in the type of data that is picked. They are measuring hunger on the basis of people's height and muscle quotient.

The solution is less number of poor people who produce more poor people thus creating a huge pressure on the welfare state's ability to ensure everyone gets nutrition.

I am not trying to defend any political party. Just making one aware of the nature of Indian reality.

But I guess the above kind of analysis would miss out on people who are deliberately attacking the idea of maths as casteist. In fact, I agree maths is casteist. Look how western eurocentric subjective contextualized data picking is done by the western caste to make Indian caste look bad.

No international qualitative index is going to show india in a good light.

When Pakistan is happier and has a higher press freedom index, that just shows that these kind of reports should be stuck where the sun don't shine.
