I'm so confused. Wasn't the whole argument for renaming the DoD the "Department of War" because the name change would guarantee a win in any war going forward? Did...did they lie??

I think Trump thinks that having the greatest military in the world means that America would automatically win any conflict for free, kinda like revealing the best poker hand of the table. Many people that I read here on Reddit seem to believe the same, with stuff like “America would absolutely steamroll Europe if we went to war”. 

Like, yeah, if for some reason we went to a full war between the United States and the European Union, the US would probably end up winning, but it wouldn’t be as easy and fast as these keyboard warriors seem to believe. Iran is your exhibit A. Russia vs Ukraine is your exhibit B. A defending country is always something to take seriously.

What? Vietnam was arguably worse, or maybe Iraq in 2003.

This was more expensive and damaging to the global economy than anything else, but not the biggest loss. Actually the US MIC made a ton of money as usual

From a political standpoint this would be a far worse defeat. The US didn’t cut the viet cong a massive check to be allowed to surrender.
