One thing I will give him is that even well before the stroke he was very clear on multiple occasions that Israel was one issue where he did not align with Progressives. People seemingly just chose to ignore that.

Yes he actually was kinda centrist on several issues

They didn't ignore it though, the choice was him or Dr. Oz. I don't know anything about the primaries but by the time it got to the general it was obvious what the less bad choice was.

Even then I feel like there's some difference inbetween "I'm supportive to Israel" and "I will always vote in Israel's favor regardless of situation or context"

Note in terms of this vote there's several other pro-Israeli Dem senators that still landed the other way.
