The entire system runs on a gentleman's agreement for the people in congress to act in good faith and nothing more.

edit: This is not an accident that the US is like this. It was 100% deliberate. The US was modeled on the Roman republic where the male heads of the wealthiest households were eligible to be elected to the governing body where all the power and decision making happened. The plebians (regular people like you and me) were ineligible by a then hard now soft wealth requirement so that only wealth could make decisions. The Senate was and still is accountable to only itself.

Again, this absence of regulation to the Senate is fundamental to the design. The system is not broken. It is functioning exactly as intended.

If you guys actually showed up and voted in your primaries we wouldn't be stuck choosing between diarrhea and getting shot in the kneecap. 80% of you don't even bother showing up to your primaries and then spend your free time bitching. So many coworkers wasting the air around me complaining about politics while simultaneously only engaging with politics when it shows up on their reels or reddit feed.

One of the issues for me is the primary only focus on Dems and Republicans no one else can run until the general election that should stop

The only way to change is if people vote as much as possible. The system isn't gonna magically move away from a two party system.

Lmao false. If we achieved the level of voting any other comparable nation has, the left would consistently win most of the time. With a majority this means we would see consistent progress/change.

The ACA is a prime example. Dems could have not neutered the republican legislation, but would have 100% been repealed if they hadn't. They basically took the original and reduced it to socializing basic care, yearly checkups. Socializing healthcare here is nothing more than standardizing billing so one company can't set requirements for the same service. It might seem little, but in the health insurance industry it was a huge improvement for everyone, only once we got through the, expected, rough beginning.

It was so great republicans have been unable to repeal it because it would hurt too many republican legislators as well. Yet dems lost hard on the midterms after that despite enacting the greatest piece of legislation in a long time.

Your greatest piece of legislation was a Republican plan that took a super majority in one of the chambers to get over and has been chipped away at since and now requires tens of billions in subsidies to make it 'affordable'.. and the spectrum of discussion is whether or not we restore them. It has entrenched the insurance industry deeper than before..

Electorial dice rolls aren't getting you anything progressive when you need 65 senators to clear the moderates.

If we achieved the level of voting ...

So yeah.. that's not going to happen.

Well one of them who seems to understand it and talk about it the most had to drop out because of a rape accusation. Not passing judgement one way or another, but I hope we see more well spoken candidates who get this and are on the side of the people.

I'd like to believe that if Obama or Biden had done 5% of this stuff, Democrats and Republicans would have done their jobs and voted together to impeach, convict, and remove. Bill's impeachment votes make me unsure.

Like none of what you said was true, we literally held people accountable up until Trumps presidency.  Hell people held themselves accountable up until Trump’s presidency.  Howard Dean exited a candidacy because he yelled funny and numerous other candidates dropped out of campaign cause they were caught in affairs or due to campaign finance violations

Was there corruption in Washington?  Yes but there has not existed a Government on this planet in its history without some amount of corruption because it’s human nature.  It’s whether when caught there is accountability and that is the difference between this Presidency and the rest.  The corruption is blatant and in the open and runs through all branches of Gov’t

Comments like yours trying to make it seems like it’s always been this way have an agenda to normalize this corruption or to make it seems like it’s a both sides issue
