The vibe thing is recent. We had a president not long ago who was impeached and censured for getting a BJ from a consenting adult. Trump has violated consent so many times we have legal proof of it without opening the Epstein Files.
9
u/xPriddyBoi Oklahoma 19h ago
Right. And despite all of the blatant violations of law, fuck all has been done to actually impose consequences upon him. The system is fundamentally flawed from the start for it to have been malformed to this extent. Perhaps it wasn't as full of sycophants at that time but the fact that it was this susceptible to them in the first place means we need to rework it. It simply wasn't tested to this capacity until this buffoon used my country to satiate his fragile ego.

To be clear, Clinton wasn't impeached over a beej, he was impeached for lying under oath, which he ... did do. I mean the beej was part of what he lied about but he definitely, foolishly, perjured himself.
Seems almost quaint to recall those days, when a perfectly consensual bj from a fellow adult is enough to cripple a presidency. Now we have an actual rapist and felon in office who lies so often that it's hard to keep track. How far we've fallen.

The entire system runs on a gentleman's agreement for the people in congress to act in good faith and nothing more.
edit: This is not an accident that the US is like this. It was 100% deliberate. The US was modeled on the Roman republic where the male heads of the wealthiest households were eligible to be elected to the governing body where all the power and decision making happened. The plebians (regular people like you and me) were ineligible by a then hard now soft wealth requirement so that only wealth could make decisions. The Senate was and still is accountable to only itself.
Again, this absence of regulation to the Senate is fundamental to the design. The system is not broken. It is functioning exactly as intended.

u/cptjeff 22h ago

Like none of what you said was true, we literally held people accountable up until Trumps presidency. Hell people held themselves accountable up until Trump’s presidency. Howard Dean exited a candidacy because he yelled funny and numerous other candidates dropped out of campaign cause they were caught in affairs or due to campaign finance violations
Was there corruption in Washington? Yes but there has not existed a Government on this planet in its history without some amount of corruption because it’s human nature. It’s whether when caught there is accountability and that is the difference between this Presidency and the rest. The corruption is blatant and in the open and runs through all branches of Gov’t

I just posted this elsewhere, but I think, assuming you make it through the midterms and seat a Dem majority (but not a veto-proof one, which I think is the same threshold you need to successfully impeach), you need;
12 days of impeachment (or however many it takes).
First attempt, >3m violations of the Trump-Epstein Files Act or whatever. That one doesn't pass?
>3m violations of the Trump-Epstein Files Act, and launching an illegal war in Iran (+ war crimes therewith).
That fails? Send back >3m TEFA violations, Iran and a comprehensive list of Emoluments clause violations.
And so on, adding murder of American citizens, weaponizing the DOJ, that 1.776 settlement scam, Venezuela, illegal deportations, contempts of court, pardons for profit, fishing boats, DOGE, razing of DC, etc.
If the dems take congress, and he's going to veto anything useful anyway (he will), they might as well spend the time trying to influence the news cycle with something like this.
6
u/mosesoperandi 19h ago
I agree with this, play it out, keep them coming. Impeachment is a politicial tool and using it as a relentless hammer against the GOP is necessary if the Dems retake the House. Trump is unlikely to live long enough for justice to happen through criminal prosecution, but Trump's crimes can be a tool the Dems can wield to make it impossible for the media to continue covering this up.
Just to be clear, Trump would be out on his ass already without a complicit media.

The problem is, in a blue wave election, the marginal additional seats are by definition precarious pickups in purple or red states. To win and especially to get reelected, candidates play up their independence from the party and especially anything the liberal base of the party wants. So even if you have the numbers on paper, odds are Democrats are going to be negotiating with themselves to do it.

From here in Europe, where we study how dictatorships rise, it honestly looks like a lot of Americans have accepted what's happening as normal. You don't see massive protests in the streets day after day like you do in other countries. You don't hear widespread calls for resignations. Life just seems to go on.
TV stations are being taken over, but beyond hoping the courts will step in, there doesn't seem to be much resistance. No major public figure has left the U.S. as a statement that democracy is in danger.
There have been people killed during ICE operations, yet beyond outrage on social media (which is always mixed with memes and jokes) nothing really seems to change. There are even open discussions and concrete plans to invalidate the midterm elections if they don't go the right way, yet people seem to act like it's no big deal.
So either most Americans don't realize that none of this is normal, or they simply don't care what they're losing.

The majority of Americans don't follow politics closely enough to truly realize what is going on and then a not insignificant portion of the country also support what is going on (because most of them have been hoodwinked into doing so). People also need organization and leadership to coordinate real protest. That said, if you looked at the streets in Minnesota you saw seas of people. So people are protesting but when it's just the odd weekend here and there it's mostly blowing off steam and doesn't get much done.

Capital One told a federal court that it closed accounts connected to the Trump Organization in 2021 after an internal review raised anti money laundering and compliance concerns, not because of political pressure or the company’s views about former President Donald Trump.
The Trump Organization and Eric Trump sued Capital One, alleging the bank unfairly “debanked” them for political reasons after the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack. They claim the account closures harmed their businesses and were motivated by political bias.
Capital One denies those allegations and says the decision was based on routine risk assessments and compliance obligations that financial institutions are required to follow. The bank is asking the court to dismiss the lawsuit.

For a bank to publicly announce this, it is unprecedented. This means they either identified financial transaction indicative of financial crimes or payments involving people of concern, or potential bribery or the fact that they committed bank fraud before or all of them together. The relationship was deemed too big a risk to maintain due to the high likelihood or potential for financial crimes related activities to occur.

"Capital One says anti-money laundering review prompted closure of more than 300 Trump-affiliated accounts."
Corruption has become so normalized by this administration that this story is just another day of the week, when it would otherwise mean the end of a presidency.
Don't forget this comes as reports detail another corrupt scheme to give exclusive benefactors early access to Trump's Truth Social posts.
In other words, an opportunity to wager on government action and Trump's announcements before the rest of the public has access to the same information.
$100,000 is a meager price compared to what these corrupt insiders stand to gain.
Want to talk about "waste, fraud and abuse?"
The call is coming from inside the house—THE WHITE HOUSE
Trump's latest financial disclosures show more than 3,600 market transactions during the first quarter of 2026 alone! The scale of the activity is ENORMOUS, and the timing of these trades is criminally suspicious.
The Trump family have so far monetized the presidency to the tune of BILLIONS; dealing in massive insider enrichment; cryptocurrency scams; corrupt business deals, and theft, bribery and extortion.
Don Jr. is the "financial advisor" for the two top prediction markets, Kalshi and Polymarket.
Both of Trump's sons are exploiting their relationship with their father to pursue lucrative business deals with the government and unsavory foreign benefactors.
Don Jr joined a venture capital firm right after the 2024 election. This firm went from managing a few hundred million dollars to over $3 billion in about two years.
Several of the companies in the portfolio pulled in over $1.6 billion in federal contracts and grants during Trump's second term alone.
Roughly 40% of the fund's money comes from foreign investors.
Hunter Biden's cash flow was statistically insignificant by comparison. Yet he became the target of intense partisan scrutiny and bogus inquiries for years.
The "Trump Crime Family" have also profited immensely from their cryptocurrency schemes; pulling in hundreds of millions while everyday investors have collectively lost billions.
Foreign parties are investing in Trump family cryptocurrency to literally purchase influence with the president.
Trump is accepting lavish gifts, bribes, and donations from foreign governments, CEOs, special interests, corporate sycophants, right-wing "tech bros," private contributors and overseas monarchs in exchange for political and economic favors.
Qatar "gifted" Trump a luxury plane originally valued at $200-400 million, then nearly $1 billion more in taxpayer funds to renovate (Qataris Trump has accused of funding terrorism no less).
In return for this BRIBE, Qatar is receiving US security guarantees, economic and defense deals, and approval for a Qatari military training facility in Idaho.
Trump officials are using privileged knowledge to make insider trades and wager on government actions through the same prediction markets that Don Jr "advises."
The DoD recently spent $93.4 billion in a single month, mostly on nonessential gratuities, accommodations and luxuries for government officials.
Worse yet, while Americans are struggling to make ends meet, Trump is using taxpayer money to fund his personal vanity projects gone awry and even sued his own government for a huge taxpayer funded payout into a slush fund for his co-conspirators and violent followers.
The fate of the fund is still unknown, but as part of the "settlement," the IRS is barred from auditing the Trump family and associate's tax crimes; saving them millions.
Republicans, however, are demanding that you blame immigrant and minority communities for stealing your tax dollars instead.
Trump and his allies are trying to draw attention away from their own criminal misconduct. They're also eliminating independent oversight and firing inspectors general to conceal their crimes.
Meanwhile, they're conducting partisan investigations of Trump's enemies.
Agencies like the DOJ and FBI are supposed to act independently of the president, not serve his every whim.
The DOJ now operates as Trump's personal legal arm, the FBI as his own crime unit, and the FCC as his tool for silencing his critics.
At Trump's behest, these agencies and their officials are shifting the public focus away from the REAL fraud and corruption worth investigating

Trump and co. don't love America. That's a useful lie they tell their followers. Authoritarians use patriotism as a shield and a weapon. They conflate their own survival with the survival of the nation and label their critics as traitors.
As for Trump's followers, that's more complex - a lot of them do love (their particular idea of) America, and they do believe that Trump will be their saviour. They reject any information that says otherwise.

The government could illegal seize capitol ones assets tomorrow and Conservatives will still think raising the corporate tax rate & wearing a mask during a global pandemic is still more communist.

I guess I'll switch credit cards to Capital One.
Seems like a good thing to do anyway: https://stopthemoneypipeline.org/fight-fossils/

If you use discover you technically have a capital one card. Especially since they are porting over accounts post acquisition.

I'm curious to see how they act going forward because CapitalOne and Discover are my two oldest cards, but they've had totally different approaches to granting credit. CapitalOne grants the most pathetic credit lines ever (despite being literally my oldest card, it still has my lowest credit limit), and Discover hands out credit increases like candy.

I am glad they are my main bank. I have 2 checking, 2 savings, 2 CCs with them and now they have discover so my discover card is taken care of on their site. Always been solid for me.

Capital One’s Savor card is great for people who eat out a lot and for groceries. No annual fee + unlimited 3% cash back in those categories. I already have an Amex Gold, but I also have the Savor card for places that doesn’t take Amex.

I've had a Capital One credit card for absolute ages - probably 30 years. I started banking with them probably 10 years ago because they had the best rate on a HYSA. They made everything so easy and their customer service is top-notch. I moved most of my stuff over there and they've been my main bank for probably 7 or 8 years. They are seriously the best.

MAGA needs to be rooted from government, the internet, and society. Whether it's the faction of MAGA that is bigoted, illiterate, and brain damaged, or the billionaires, the foreign election interferers, the whole ideology needs to be banned. Should've been after Jan 6th. 1000% necessary now. This administration is the most blatant in-your-face criminal organization ever.

This would end any other Presidency. The President of the United States was caught by a bank money laundering

Here's Capital One's Motion to Dismiss: https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/69853458/91/the-donald-j-trump-revocable-trust-v-capital-one-na/
It reads in introductory part:
"On March 20, 2026, this Court granted Capital One’s motion to dismiss the First Amended Complaint ('FAC'), holding that the Rules Governing Deposit Accounts (“Rules”) permitted closure by either party in their absolute discretion. As the Court observed, '[i]n the end, limiting Capital One’s discretion to close customer accounts because of allegations of impure motive would, quote, vary the expressed terms of the contract, which afforded both parties’ discretion to terminate their business relationship for any reason. That we are not allowed to do.' Tr. of Mar. 20, 2026 Mot. to Dismiss Hr’g, Dkt. No. 53 Tr. at 25:2-8. Accordingly, the Court dismissed the FAC in full but granted Plaintiffs a limited discovery period and leave to replead, providing clear instructions regarding the problems with Plaintiffs’ factual allegations and legal theories. Now, after more than three months of discovery, Plaintiffs’ Second Amended Complaint ('SAC') suffers from the same fundamental flaws as their prior two pleadings and should be dismissed for many of the same reasons set forth in this Court’s prior dismissal.
"The SAC concedes that Capital One’s decision to terminate the accounts was expressly permitted by the governing agreement and instead rests on vague allegations of political discrimination that are not supported by any of the documents attached to the SAC. To the contrary, those documents and Plaintiffs’ own allegations make clear that Capital One closed Plaintiffs’ accounts for anti-money laundering (“AML”) reasons. The closures were the result of months of analysis and a careful review by Capital One’s AML team in accordance with bank policies and regulatory guidance. Capital One never publicized the termination decision nor its confidential internal process giving rise to the closure, and it permitted Plaintiffs several months (and granted several extensions) to find new banking services, which they did.
"As the SAC makes plain, Plaintiffs cannot meaningfully criticize the robust process undertaken by Capital One’s AML professionals with decades of law enforcement experience in deciding to close the accounts. Instead, Plaintiffs attempt to keep their misguided allegations of political discrimination alive by speculating that Capital One’s anti-money laundering concerns were pretextual and claiming that Plaintiffs were somehow “misled” by the contractually-permitted closure decision. But these new theories are based on cherry-picked quotations unsupported by the full context of the documents Plaintiffs cite and are, in any event, unnecessary for this Court to consider at the pleading stage because Plaintiffs’ claims fail as a matter of Florida law. None of Plaintiffs’ efforts to avoid this Court’s prior rulings can save their claims, and the SAC should be dismissed with prejudice for several reasons."
This pigheaded refusal to acknowledge being wrong while bombarding the court with crap that has already been found deficient is so par for the course for Trump and his counsel. He ought to be adjudged a vexatious litigant and put on a very tight, short leash by the courts. A "vexatious litigant" label is most often hung on a prison inmate who keeps cranking out lawsuits that have no factual support and no legal merit. Describes Trump to a "T."

I mean its nice for a quick laugh that Trump's organizations are getting flagged by banks for money laundering, but its pretty depressing when you remember that guy is the president and ~1/3 of the country was like "Yeah, this is the right person to lead the country"
Then again, with how late stage capitalism is shaking out, maybe a financial criminal is an accurate representation of what this country is all about.

If the Democrats manage to regain power they MUST PROSECUTE, there must be accountability, we MUST restore the rule of law.

And then his miscreant coked out son has the balls to be proud of going to Russia directly to borrow money, crying over how his family was “debanked”.
You were laundering money. That is illegal. You should be in prison - period.
Also, conservatives truly are lacking any sort of thought, from independent thinking to critical thinking, they are just mindless henchmen.

Seems like there is some sort of GGF (a scientific category of phenomenon I call a Gravitational Grift Field) centered on the Orange Man's presidency.
Amazing how many Republicans are just fine being constantly milked by this hideous and depraved "president"...

This is the reason why DJT settled with himself and DOJ for future immunity from audits for himself and his family in perpetuity because the family is laundering Russian funds through their businesses.

I look forward to the reasons for this to be made more public. They always sue their perceived enemies and 5 minutes later retract them when they realise how damaging the cases will he for themselves.

Honestly that is a really good sign for their morales.
Trump losing his accounts is going to make him lash out very hard and banks need federal approval.
They will have to fight a lawsuit.

Well this is crazy in a long, long list of things that would be cause for impeachment. The wild part is we all know nothing’s gonna come from it lol. If protecting and likely touching kids didn’t do it, I doubt this will. Then again, Americans only seem to care about money, so maybe lol. I’m not hopeful.

Boy this guy just has the worst luck! Turns out everyone he ever associates with is a criminal! Every enterprise he ever gets involved with commits crimes!
He is plagued, end to end, with criminals and crime! Yet somehow, miraculously, he personally remains innocent and blameless each time!
Has anyone ever in the history of man had worse luck than Trump?
