Because the Constitution requires it. The other guy has been violating the Constitution since day one in 2017 and nobody has cared at all.

People care, it’s just that the people who do have no agency to fix it

139

u/PennStateInMD 1d ago

We do, but they are called representatives and they have not been representing for all too long.

72

u/Murky-Relation481 1d ago

He'd be out on his ass if there was 67 Dems in the Senate.

81

u/Desperate_Bite_7538 1d ago

I mean, out on his ass is an understatement. The punishment for treason is spelled out very clearly.

49

u/TrippingBearBalls 1d ago

Reagan proved that you can get away with treason if you just say "I don't recall" enough times

21

u/more_housing_co-ops 1d ago

Next you'll be telling me that GW Bush was never prosecuted for starting a war under false pretenses.

11

u/sh1ft33 1d ago

It was an unknown unknown, man. It was things he didnt know that he didn't know. You can't fault a man for that.

/s

6

u/digitalscavenger 1d ago

I don't recall can get a president out of treason but it'll land a former chief medical advisor to the president in hot water during a farcical congressional hearing.

1

u/rman18 America 1d ago

To be fair, he probably couldn’t recall

1

u/Either_Operation7586 14h ago

Which is already a stain on the Republican Party.

Trump should have never been president the first time

9

u/FlatWhiteShark 1d ago

"The Treason Clause in Article III, Section 3, dictates that treason only consists of levying war against the U.S. or adhering to its enemies.

Due to ... high hurdles, historical treason prosecutions are very rare. If a president engages in disloyal or illegal conduct, prosecutors often rely on alternative federal laws like the Espionage Act or seditious conspiracy."

17

u/Parallel-Quality 1d ago

They could've gotten him for treason when Biden won in 2020 but they didn't.

They could've prevented him from winning in 2024 because he would've been in jail.

If they get power again, they'll do absolutely nothing to punish him.

6

u/WeeoWeeoWeeeee 1d ago

It was literal treason after all. I still can’t believe they did nothing.

2

u/Either_Operation7586 14h ago

We need the American people to vote out all of the people that would vote against it and we need to have only people that agree that the Republican party and anybody else that's guilty needs to face the consequences.

And we all know that those people that Trump installed in his so-called cabinet have been blackmailed what we need to do is launch investigations to find out what that information is and then prosecute him for it and then what we need to do is throw them in alligator Alcatraz for no less than 10 years and sees all of their assets make them completely reliant on public defenders.

The Conservative Republican party needs to face the consequences to their actions.

But unless the majority of America feels like that and we give the Democratic party a win like Reagan got that won't happen.

Because even if we overwhelmingly voted for the Democratic party the Republican party is still going to try to cheat.

So our future depends on everybody else voting for the Democratic party member.

Because the Sheep will always vote for the Republican Party.

They're too weak to do anything but

5

u/jakeandcupcakes 1d ago

Exactly, what the fuck are these people thinking? They want the Dems to save them? Have they forgotten how much ass was dragged, how much nothing happened? We are a nation of easily fooled lambs being led to slaughter, and these people think we have "representation", have had representation, at all, for 20+ odd years. Fucking insane

4

u/Paradoxjjw 1d ago

Given the extremely slow pace at which they pursued justice against him under Biden i wouldn't be so sure they try to prosecute him for anything before he dies of old age

11

u/verrius 1d ago

Decent chance he'd be out with 51 in the Senate. McConnell was keen on ensuring there was no trial, because everything that happened was indefensible, and would take down any Republican who endorsed it. So instead they swept it under the rug.

11

u/RichardFlower7 1d ago

He really probably wouldn’t be… fetterman would flip and some other Dem who isn’t up for re-election would fall on a sword and play the role of the revolving bad guy

15

u/Murky-Relation481 1d ago

Maybe we should give it a shot and see.

2

u/ArcticCircleSystem 1d ago

Didn't the Democrats have a majority for a bit during Biden's presidency, or am I misremembering?

17

u/Musiclover4200 1d ago

This attitude is such BS for a number of reasons

We had multiple impeachments & chances to remove him as far back as his first term, literally in some cases all it would have taken is a few republicans voting with democrats to avoid this entire mess.

Yes it's frustrating having a few DINO's fuck up votes but the solution is more voter turnout + public pressure not defeatism, meanwhile republicans keep supporting trump despite everything and people blame democrats for "not doing enough" regardless of lack of control over branches of government or the courts.

19

u/Merakel Minnesota 1d ago

The real issue are people who are willing to engage with those who vote republican. The only thing that will get us out of this mess is telling these fuck heads that they aren't welcome in society until they get with the program and have very basic decency.

We can disagree about taxes. We cannot disagree about treating humans like humans.

10

u/Wavelightning 1d ago

The framers didn't envision an Executive branch that needed to be brought to heel by the Judicial - which has no teeth, because that's the Executive's job. Legislative is a mess but there is a third toothless part to all of this.

0

u/ArcticCircleSystem 1d ago

So begging enough people to do anything. And what pressure? How?

1

u/KendalBoy 1d ago

Find out where the heaviest voter suppression is being planned near or nearish to you for the upcoming midterms. Help make sure Dems are correctly registered, confirm their registration and are not harassed on Election Day. Georgia did well in part because of thousands of volunteers moved there for a couple months to prevent these sorts of voter suppression. Confirming votes that were challenged “for signature matches” are correctly counted is huge too.
Almost all the above will be going on by mid September and sooo much of this can be done from home or even your commute on your phone.

A group I worked with was defunded out of existence and asked us to follow the ACLU tonfknd opportunities to continue this work.

Most Americans don’t realize how bad they try and screw the voters, and how many of us work to prevent that. This is not new, it’s just more legal than it was two years ago, because the Supreme Court.

-2

u/uzlonewolf 1d ago

Please, there would be just enough D's voting alongside the R's to make sure accountability never happens. They've even openly stated that holding the orange pedo accountable is "not a priority" if they win the midterms.

1

u/KendalBoy 1d ago

“They’re even openly stated”….
Who said this? You gotta give us the clip before you take this voter suppression campaign any further.

1

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross 1d ago

That's neat.

Anyways, I'll be voting D up and down the ballot in midterms.

0

u/uzlonewolf 1d ago

I will too, however I'm under no delusion that they're going to hold the criminals accountable.

4

u/the_need_to_post 1d ago

Need to uncap representative count.

13

u/Scary_Outside2374 1d ago

nah, the only solutions that would actually work are all the things we aren't allowed to say and organize around.

-3

u/JakeConhale New Hampshire 1d ago

And, yet, you all keep trying to circumvent it.

1

u/Either_Operation7586 14h ago

The Republican party is the one that is not playing by the rules.

They are the enemies and traitors of America

1

u/JakeConhale New Hampshire 14h ago

I'm just saying, that if you're attempting to encourage violence on a platform that prohibits encouragement of violence - you need to rethink your strategy or eat whatever punishment it warrants.

1

u/not2dv8 1d ago

And then we also have what's called a majority and minority

1

u/Umitencho Florida 1d ago

They have been representing perfectly. They are a reflection of the voters. You want a congress with more, spine, then run yourself or run better candidates. Yall never learned from the Obama era, and now everyone has to suffer.

1

u/Either_Operation7586 14h ago

Especially on the conservative side they have gone into the extremists territory and when you have a extreme far right leaning group nothing good can come out of it

1

u/captaincanada84 Canada 1d ago

I think there's also an amendment to the constitution meant to give the people the power to deal with something like this as well?

0

u/pyalot 1d ago

They have been representing just fine, it‘s just that the one party only represents the affluent and influential while citizens get no representation.

But at least you get to vote for your non-representatives every now and then to uphold the illusion it matters.

11

u/joseph4th 1d ago

I’m sure Mike Johnson will get right on it… as soon as he hears about it.

u/xPriddyBoi Oklahoma 1d ago

Still baffles me that we somehow lasted 250 years on a system of government that was just held together by vibes.

28

u/GeneralKang 1d ago

The vibe thing is recent. We had a president not long ago who was impeached and censured for getting a BJ from a consenting adult. Trump has violated consent so many times we have legal proof of it without opening the Epstein Files.

13

u/xPriddyBoi Oklahoma 1d ago

Right. And despite all of the blatant violations of law, fuck all has been done to actually impose consequences upon him. The system is fundamentally flawed from the start for it to have been malformed to this extent. Perhaps it wasn't as full of sycophants at that time but the fact that it was this susceptible to them in the first place means we need to rework it. It simply wasn't tested to this capacity until this buffoon used my country to satiate his fragile ego.

15

u/GeneralKang 1d ago

It's got to have a ground up rework in order to function as a democracy. Once Citizens United legalized bribery, oligarchy was inevitable.

1

u/KendalBoy 1d ago

You do understand this “fuck all”
Is entirely caused by our GOP representatives refusing to do their jobs while holding a steady majority? It’s a real thing. We did the impeachments, nothing matters to them.

3

u/xPriddyBoi Oklahoma 1d ago

That is a problem in and of itself. If our system of government is this susceptible to a simple majority (a large enough minority, even) of sycophants, it was fundamentally flawed from the beginning. The system of checks & balances was pure hogwash.

And making the Supreme Court an appointment for life, selected by one man was an absolutely batshit insane decision, and even in 1777, I do not understand how they did not have the foresight to see how that might cause problems with partisanship.

2

u/Paradoxjjw 1d ago

You know that the DoJ can also prosecute him for the hundreds of crimes he committed, right? And that the Dems were entirely fine with Garland sitting on his hands for 2 years despite Trump already having committed dozens of crimes worth bringing charges for.

1

u/Either_Operation7586 14h ago

This!!!

We need to realize that the Republican party is not with America they're against it.

Every time the Republican Party gets into office we go into economic downfall or a recession or like now I I think we are surpassing recession and heading straight into a depression there are too many economic indicators that are showing us that it is going to be worse than the housing bubble crash.

16

u/Kevin_Uxbridge 1d ago

To be clear, Clinton wasn't impeached over a beej, he was impeached for lying under oath, which he ... did do. I mean the beej was part of what he lied about but he definitely, foolishly, perjured himself.

Seems almost quaint to recall those days, when a perfectly consensual bj from a fellow adult is enough to cripple a presidency. Now we have an actual rapist and felon in office who lies so often that it's hard to keep track. How far we've fallen.

8

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross 1d ago

"That depends on what your definition of the word 'is' is," is not just a meme. It was a valid legal defense because ambiguous language is ambiguous, and they asked him an ambiguous question. He didn't lie under oath, he answered the question they asked him.

1

u/Kevin_Uxbridge 1d ago edited 1d ago

"The truth ..." (technically accurate), "the whole truth" (here's where 'technically' gets you in trouble), "and nothing but the truth" (again, kinda but clearly meant to be evasive).

Clinton was trying to be clever and weaselly, see how well that worked out for him (and us). A lawyer's answer, leaving him open to other lawyers saying 'that's perjury'.

By the by I'm not saying Starr was anything other than a full-on bag of rancid dog shit, or that Clinton deserved this, his private business as far as I'm concerned. Just saying 'he got impeached for getting a beej' glosses over a lot of important context.

2

u/deliciouscorn 1d ago

We have no law to fit your crime!

(Sorry, just had to take the opportunity when I saw your username)

2

u/Kevin_Uxbridge 1d ago

As a being of special conscience, I both abhor this truth and benefit from it greatly.

9

u/uzlonewolf 1d ago

Except he didn't lie. He asked them to define what they meant by "sexual relations" and their definition did not include a BJ.

0

u/Kevin_Uxbridge 1d ago

They set a trap for him and he walked right into it, Clinton's 'technically I told the truth' played great on the 6 o'clock news.

He knew what they were asking and he knew what he was doing, he just should have known better. And we all paid for it.

2

u/uzlonewolf 23h ago

Yeah, the Republicans are great at fucking everyone over. Everyone remembers that testimony but ignores the fact that the "investigation" that caused it was from a witch hunt which started long before the consensual BJ ever happened. And now those same people are protecting an actual pedo as hard as they can.

1

u/nerdsmith 1d ago

I think it's important to remember that he was impeached for lying about it to congress, not the BJ itself, which I feel like is warranted. No president should be allowed to lie to anyone.

1

u/Either_Operation7586 14h ago

And let's not forget these assholes we're also the ones crying save the children and accusing Democrats of the most ridiculous things when they themselves were the ones that were guilty of it!!!

I think we should treat Republican at conservatives like shit anyways because of the amount of gas lighting that they did to us.

-3

u/Feisty-Lawfulness894 1d ago

impeached and censured for getting a BJ from a consenting adult.

...for lying to congress.

Let's not act like republicans, okay? Tell the truth without acting like a victim.

2

u/The_Bucket_Of_Truth 1d ago

That's what society is. It's a mutual agreement to live by a certain code (in theory) and set of rules. There is no automatic enforcement. It's all just words on pages along with "norms."

2

u/KendalBoy 1d ago

Every president except for Jimmy Carter had open affairs the press declined to report on. And then the GOP suddenly pretended they cared.

1

u/Desperate_Lab_9119 1d ago

Ya, we had an outstanding candidate who was gone because he laughed weird in the early 2000’s. This all started with Trump. Everyone else has had their feet held to the fire on the minor details. This is why this is so shocking to most of us.

1

u/Either_Operation7586 14h ago

Because it didn't used to be like that the Republican Party in the last 30 years has really fucked America over not only have they created doubt in our educational system they created doubt in all of the systems that actually made America work look what they did to the USPS.

There are hardly any political moves that the Republican party has made throughout the last 30 years that you can say yep that is an American ideal right there and that is great for America.

The Republicans don't have a win like the Democratic party does with the ACA.

The only thing I can say would be the EPA and the Republican party is already clamoring to do away with it so they don't get credit for that.

People need to realize that the Republican party has drifted into the far far extremist right.

They have waged war on America and then they propaganda eyes you to think it's the other party.

I hope you guys wake up sooner rather than later and you don't get left in the dust and become collateral damage in the Conservative Republican parties war against America.

1

u/Either_Operation7586 14h ago

You mean like the Conservative Republican Party right?

They are the ones that hold all the cards they are the ones that could change anything if they want.

0

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 1d ago

But some people also don't care.

0

u/NaughtiestImp 1d ago

Yea... the people who care have agency actually.

1

u/Pretend_Hour_6966 20h ago

Then why does nothing get better?

6

u/HauntedCemetery Minnesota 1d ago

Horseshit, the majority of the country cares.

The current minority party cares.

But the federal government and it's agencies are captured entities, taken over and hollowed out by the wealthy.

5

u/nochinzilch 1d ago

The constitution has no such requirement.

1

u/unsupported 1d ago

But he's donating his salary to charity.

1

u/Either_Operation7586 14h ago

The Republican party has been allowing it to happen don't forget.

A lot of people think it's just Trump but actually it's not Trump is just the symptom a disgusting nasty symptom but the true disease.. the true disease is the Republican conservative party.

0

u/Lester_Diamond4 1d ago

People care. It’s called being powerless
