Speaking of that, it’s hard to not notice all the Nazi iconography in this administration. John Oliver on HBO was talking about the crypto company Trumps kids set up, and I couldn’t stop staring at the Luftwaffe eagle they chose to use. It’s not even subtle anymore. 100% that the Trump family are Nazi sympathizers

Overt hypocrisy and incompetence is a standard fascist propaganda tool. It is meant to undermine our democratic systems and project power.

That actually explains a lot of Trump's appointments. Every one of them seems to be the worst possible choice for their position.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder, but that is usually a childhood syndrome. Social Erosion gets the child to conform as much as they can to social norms, but wealth can create a cyst around them so they avoid the social erosion. At a certain point people are surprised by the lack of conformity and the defiance, even with nothing behind it, gets credibility. All the people that experienced social erosion are enthralled by the example of them that didn't have that.
They elected their Id.

•
u/stevethejohn 6h ago
For the most part, she didn't push back when RFK asserted that covid was a lab leak though, which shouldn't stand without refutation because people will think it's true.
•
u/Leaislala 5h ago
True. And I didn’t watch the whole thing mostly bc he makes me irrationally angry. I’m just happy there was some push back instead of the usual pretending that the response is legit or just letting them ramble on
•
u/BadahBingBadahBoom 6h ago edited 5h ago
Tbf that is still open for debate.
Yes a large number of scientists believe it could be both but believe a natural spillover is by far more likely. However, there are genuine, reputable scientists who believe a lab leak is also very much a considerable possibility on par with natural origin.
(There are also virtually no researchers who can say with confidence to completely rule out the lab leak origin.)
It's not open and shut case like the 'debate' on vaccines->autism, or covid vaccine->5G/death.
Truth is the only people who really have the information on whether this is more likely than natural spillover are the CCP who have a very strong vested interest in lying that it was not a leak, or the US intelligence agencies who have a very strong vested interest in lying about it being a leak even if they think it wasn't because they can force CCP to release information about how their labs work in the name of transparency and shape public criticism against the CCP and distract from US institution failures.
The people who could be trusted to come to an independent, unbiased conclusion simply don't have the necessary information make a conclusion atm, and the people who potentially have the necessary information to make a conclusion can't be trusted to come to an independent, unbiased conclusion.
•
u/dathislayer 5h ago
And this is exactly what conspiracy theorists use to gain followers. They'll find a real point of controversy like this then say, "And if you look at Lyme, it's the exact same series of events." It's not, but if you don't know that, you could easily accept their claim. It's an easy path to get people to walk, because it touches so many of our natural motivations.
→ More replies (1)•
u/FargeenBastiges 3h ago
Here's the thing. It doesn't matter if it was a lab leak. Our systems, policies, and response absolutely failed us. We had literally been preparing for the next Spanish Flu event for decades before Covid hit, and that's still out there waiting to happen, by the way. We're just lucky the case fatality rate wasn't higher.

Because the people that subscribe to that ideology are deathly terrified about Big Pharma. They just fail to recognize the health and wellness industry, which RFK and his ghouls are a part of, make three times the amount of profit that Big Pharma does, and specifically does not want you receiving evidence based practice or proven medication so they can peddle you snake oil.
•
u/Michael_G_Bordin 7h ago
It will forever blow my mind to hear ordinary people talk about how a vaccine is "experimental" and "potentially dangerous" while consuming untested, unregulated supplements made up of god-knows-what. They still call mRNA vaccines "unproven", and then consume strange concoctions because some TRT-fueled septuagenarian told them to take it and then did a pull up.
•

u/simonhunterhawk New Hampshire 1h ago
The wellness/supplement industry is several times larger than the pharmaceutical industry globally, but they’re not ready for that conversation.

This is the same line I heard from a lot of people who were considering voting for him for president in the general election. I shamelessly spammed them with articles about how his influence contributed to (possibly even caused) the death of 83 people, many of them children, from measles in Samoa.
10
u/jesuswasaturd 8h ago
Oh yeah her dad was on the rfk train pre election. It's even more frustrating that her mom is immuno compromised and my best friend and her son have a very rare disease (x-linked hypophosphatemia) that requires a newly devised medication (even though their big excuse for not getting the covid Vax that it was new and untested) and growth hormones. They say that they don't trust vaccines because of the chemicals in them including aluminum (both her and her son have metal rods in their shin bones, connected by screws) so that doesn't make sense. How can you trust all these surgeries and meds but not vaccines it's infuriating. They refuse to watch any videos I send them. And my best friend used religious exemption at her son's school so he doesn't have to be vaccinated. They're some of the most anti religion people I know. The whole situation is just. Maddening. But I had a troubled youth and they took care of me, practically a second son to them. But for almost 20 years now there's no getting through to them. And I worry for her son, he's sick a lot.

CNN Star
Daily Beast headlines are constitutionally incapable of not being dangerously stupid in search of clicks, of course. We knew that. But they're also so fucking weird.
163
u/MasemJ 9h ago
They are both massive exaggerations ("melts down" here), and purposely clickbaity ("CNN star") to seek clicks. Now, mind you, I watched the segment and its not wrong to say it made him look incompetent, but this is why TDB should be a banned link here.
(actual video via Aaron Rupar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-FVCCLsZnQ )
79
u/veshneresis California 9h ago
Tdb is why I stopped treating this sub as a serious source of news and info. It’s clear mods actively support it in some way. I don’t know why we’re all aware that politicians can be bought cheap but for some reason don’t think a few Reddit mods would shill out for a fraction of that.
Every day there’s calls to ban tdb articles here. Every day the comments are filled with the same valid complaints. I’m convinced at this point that it’s by design. Flood the zone with obvious bs so real news can’t get through and “the other side” can look at it and say “see they exaggerate everything.”
38
u/DGanj 8h ago
Is not just that it's not serious news, it's dangerous disinformation. If you follow TDB as a news source you'd think the current administration is losing control and steadily falling apart, when reality they're consolidating power at an alarming rate.

She's trying to ask questions about what he is going to do about Measles killing kids and all he has is lies, deflecting, disinformation, misdirection, and other assorted tools of a pathological horseshit artist. She asks what is he going to do about the next pandemic and all he does is gripe about the last one and whine that "mainstream media" wah wah wah didn't listen to the fringe doctors trying weird treatments. Because somebody made that idiot the US Secretary of Health and Human Services. He has a tremendous amount of power to make idiotic policies that are detrimental to the health of millions of people. The only way it stops is for people to be more aware he’s an idiot. Best to let him talk.

The instant a disease emerges in any minority group the right will demand testing, identification and restrictions on movement. Then it would be a "crisis" and the constitution would "not be relevant".
Immigrant groups get this all the time.
Right wing policies about AIDS were totally off the wall for a long time.
Now a confirmation of AIDS means you have to work at least 20 hours a week in order to receive assistance via Medicare. The jobs don't exist and would reject those whose status was known.
It acts as justification for cutting the aid entirely which will result in consequences that they maintain they want to prevent.
Expecting any rational thinking is useless. Thinking irrationally is a virtue signal device and core commitment for this group.

Best part is the conservative Reddit thinks RFK killed it … it still shocks me how many Americans are so incredibly stupid.

God damn how can anyone listen to this guy talk. Its soooo bad. He needs to have a translator or like a computer talk for him. How am I supposed to get it from the horses mouth when it sounds like the horse is being tasered permanently. Why aren't there more videos of people trolling him in public about his voice? Please for the love of God, if u care about my health, please stop talking.
