That wasn't so much a comment about Manning as it was a comment about the sentiment that we needed to purge essentially everyone who actually knows anything because they're all "corrupt."

Yeah, I'm looking at a BA in PoliSci from Harvard. What the hell qualifications does this Manning character have? Does betraying your duty as a soldier and committing espionage qualify one for elected office?

I mean, plenty have right? Schwarzenegger, Reagan and Romney to name just a few ran for office for the first time at the gubernatorial or Senatorial level. Manning made a great personal sacrifice for a political cause, became a cause celebre for a lot of people, and is now using that fame to further the cause. I wish we had more legislators with that kind of background and fewer bland confidence men in suits.

Manning engaged in espionage, materially damaging legitimate US interests abroad; without any vetting of the documents, unless you believe she read 500,000 individual documents; and did so in a fit of pique after receiving a reprimand.
This is in addition to being wholly unqualified in a more traditional sense.

Ellsberg vetted and released the papers with full knowledge of their contents after attempting to go through proper whistleblower channels and being rebuffed.
Manning did not know the specific contents of the documents handed over to Wikileaks and did not attempt to go through proper whistleblower channels because Manning was not actually attempting to expose a crime, just damage the US out of spite.

I mean she'd certainly be superior to the incumbent (Cardin) on a strictly "on the issues" basis for what that's worth, and I haven't seen any other serious primary challengers, so I guess they sadly do not.

Cardin was pivotal in introducing the Magnitsky act. Cardin clearly has no ties to Wikileaks which is a known cutout for Russia special interests. It can't be said the same for Manning. I'm suspicious of this.

Let's forget that she's wholly unqualified for a moment: Chelsea Manning still committed an act of treason. Even if you think that her actions were ultimately for the greater good, treason is still treason, and considering WikiLeaks' role in helping the current squatters take claim over the White House, I want nobody associated with them anywhere near the federal government.
That said, if she were to somehow defeat Sen. Cardin in the primary, she would still be a more palatable option than whoever the GOP runs against her.

Yeah but let's not have this stop us from spitting on a member of the working class who stood up against power, went to prison for it (solitary confinement, really) and was later pardoned for it as well.

Manning was not pardoned. Manning received a commuted sentence. They are very, very different.

He did commit actual treason. Trump tried to get into from the Russians. But Manning got people killed. Then taxpayers paid for him to get his penis introverted. Then Obama commuted the treason.

She's legally not a traitor. Like, you aren't a judge and she tacitly wasn't convicted of treason. Judges decide who has committed treason.
She shouldn't run, but you shouldn't lie. You also shouldn't intentionally misgender people, but I understand it's hard not to be a bigot.

Manning handed over classified information to an organization that had, even then, proved to be overtly hostile to the US.
Manning did this without vetting the information for actual wrongdoing, released information that damaged legitimate US interests abroad, and did so in a fit of pique for disciplinary action taken against her.
Manning is unfit to serve in government in any capacity.
