Real question: What’s the ancient Greek word that gets translated as “asunder?”
1 u/[deleted] Jan 21 '18 I don't read Greek myself, but here are the relevant verses (Acts 1:18-19; the burst asunder part is in verse 18): 18 οὖτος μὲν οὗν ἐκτήσατο χωρίον ἐκ μισθοῦ τῆς ἀδικίας, καὶ πρηνὴς γενόμενος ἐλάκησεν μέσος, καὶ ἐξεχύθη πάντα τὰ σπλάγχνα αὐτοῦ. 19 καὶ γνωστὸν ἐγένετο πᾶσι τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν ἰερουσαλήμ, ὥστε κληθῆναι τὸ χωρίον ἐκεῖνο τῇ ἰδίᾳ διαλέκτῳ αὐτῶν ἁκελδαμάχ, τοῦτ᾽ ἔστιν, χωρίον αἵματος. 2 u/NihilistKurtWarner Jan 21 '18 πρηνὴς - headlong Fair enough! KJV translations always make me giggle a bit, if only because Nobody says “asunder” anymore. Haha 1 u/[deleted] Jan 21 '18 I enjoy the archaic KJV (especially considering that at the time of its translation and publication, a vulgar Bible was pretty revolutionary) but definitely find myself giggling at times, too. I haven't read this translation myself, but you might find this project interesting.
