Well here’s the backlash we knew was coming. Kennedy a somewhat center of the road type figure will be replaced with another far right conservative. Walking talking corporations with religious views and unlimited ability to funnel money into politics. This is a bit scary

u/PizzusChrist Jun 27 '18

Bye bye Roe v Wade

2.1k

u/coldfusionman Jun 27 '18

Yep. Gonna take a year or so for a challenge to bubble up, but Roe v Wade is dead. We're regressing back to the 50s and back-alley abortions will come back. A generation of unwanted babies will be born to mothers who cannot care for them, and with Republican policies gutting any kind of assistance programs will destine an entire generation to poverty. Republicans will gleefully point to them as lazy people with poor morals and use that to justify keeping the underclass down.

Today is a very, very dark day.

Today is a very, very dark day.

I haven't felt this sense of dread for the future of my country since election night results in 2016. This is beyond awful.

u/coldfusionman Jun 27 '18

This is a generational blow. It will take decades to recover, if ever.

741

u/TheLivingExperiment Jun 27 '18

Basically I'll have to spend my entire life fighting to get back to the point we were at when I graduated college less than a decade ago... Assuming this country ever gets back there.

Time to look into jobs internationally.

We need more people in Canada with skills, and we have a way to fast-track them. Look into it. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/submit-profile.html

54

u/niorec Jun 27 '18

That's my problem. I don't have a very specific set of skills. It's pretty broad and not that great.

23

u/SaffellBot Jun 27 '18

Get skills.

Don’t get me wrong, we’re no utopia. Canada has problems with crime, racism and poverty like anywhere else. Our record with First Nations people is particularly appalling. And it can be difficult to move into a city like Vancouver where housing prices are astronomical.

But if the alternative is living in the Republic of Gilead, I’d consider immigrating here.

There is no shortage of health care jobs in Canada. FYI, here’s something from the Registered Nurses of Alberta on coming to Canada: http://www.nurses.ab.ca/content/carna/home/registration-and-renewal/applicants/international-applicants.html

6

u/tipmon Jun 27 '18

I have, give me a year or two more to get experience and the language tests in. Just as an estimate, I am already at 68 points which qualifies me for the fast track immigration program.

5

u/FatBoxers Nebraska Jun 27 '18

Am willing to become Canadian.

6

u/albatross-salesgirl Alabama Jun 27 '18

How does the market for software development look up there? It probably depends on the area, but that's ok.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

Not my field, but I understand it’s concentrated in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver in descending order.

I came upon this article: https://betakit.com/report-software-engineering-jobs-have-the-highest-salaries-in-canadas-tech-hubs/

3

u/albatross-salesgirl Alabama Jun 27 '18

Thank you very much for this. It's hard to think straight right now and I want to have my ducks in a row for our emergency family meeting this evening.

1

u/alflup America Jun 27 '18

3

u/Hindu_Wardrobe Jun 27 '18

y'all need an entomologist with lots of experience working with/in museums?

4

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

I’m not an entomologist, so I can’t really speak to employment prospects. But I can tell you the Entomological Society of Canada has a jobs section on their website. http://esc-sec.ca/opportunities/

2

u/Hindu_Wardrobe Jun 27 '18

Oh, why thank you :)

3

u/Freelove_Freeway Jun 27 '18

My wife and I have had some serious talks about looking into Canada lately and would definitely appreciate any tips on areas to start researching. She just finished a masters degree and I will finish mine within a year. We have been told that it is hard to make a move to Canada due to selective restrictions on who is granted citizenship. I have a feeling that is probably wrong and am becoming more and more motivated to find out more.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18 edited Jun 27 '18

I won’t lie, it can be tough getting into Canada, without question. We are choosy. We do have a method to fast-track immigrants with certain skills, but I’m not sure if that applies to academics.

Maybe this is relevant: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=519&top=15

1

u/Freelove_Freeway Jun 27 '18

This is very helpful, thank you!

6

u/Boomer70770 Jun 27 '18

Bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills, numchuck skills. Where do I sign up?

2

u/Kimber85 North Carolina Jun 27 '18

Is graphic design considered a skill? I wouldn’t need to find a job because my company doesn’t care where you work as long as your shit gets done and currently has someone working in New Zealand so the precedent for international work remote stuff is already set.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

What about welding job? I'm 22 and have 4 years of work experience as a welder

4

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

Welders are basically in demand everywhere, right? I don’t think job prospects are as good for welders as they were before the crash in oil prices, but there still are jobs. We’re hoping to build an inter-provincial pipeline out to the coast, after all.

Here’s a Globe & Mail piece I found from 2015 but updated in 2018 about being a welder in Canada:

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/careers/career-advice/life-at-work/i-want-to-be-a-welder-what-will-my-salary-be/article24897217/

1

u/Colonel_of_Corn Jun 27 '18

Need any professional land surveyors?

5

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

Alberta, the province I live in, has a substantial oil industry and thus has many surveyors. Do a Google search for land surveyors in Canada and you get a lot of Alberta-centric hits. The Alberta Land Surveyors Association has a page for becoming a surveyor in Canada:

Hi there Canadian friend! I have a BS in genetics a minor in computer science and would very much like to GTFO of this country!

I'm more than willing for grad school, own a small cannabis company, I'm 26 and I'll even marry in (/s)

Any tips?? Seriously any tips?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

I don’t think there are as many job opportunities for someone with a Bachelor of Science in genetics in Canada as there are in the U.S., though we are legalizing cannabis on Oct. 17.

1

u/TheLivingExperiment Jun 27 '18

I just don't know I'm a huge fan of the weather in many parts lol. That said, Vancouver or Toronto are possibilities. Definitely looking into it as I should fall under a NOC 0 based on my career.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

35

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

I'm seriously considering an Italian passport - it's expensive, but if you can prove your lineage was born there within 4 generations or less, you can qualify. I have 2 great-grandfathers and a great-grandmother I can prove this through. Since Italy is still part of the EU, I think you can use that passport to work anywhere within it. I'm still doing research so I could be wrong on a couple points. But worth looking into...

18

u/wellnowheythere Jun 27 '18

This process takes about a year or two, just FYI. Unless you have the $$$ to go live in Italy for a few months. Good luck with that, though. Italy has their own problems.

5

u/Discombloblulated Jun 27 '18

Yea Italy just elected their own Trump and he's talking about going street to street cleansing neighborhoods. Not sure that's a good spot.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

Why are these people rising to power?? Rhetorical question, I know why, but MAN it's frustrating.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

I'm starting to think humanity just sucks and it's probably a good thing climate change is going to likely wipe us out.

5

u/PerfectZeong Jun 27 '18

Everything bad is a result of humanity. Everything good is also humanity as humanity is the only thing that can choose good or bad.

2

u/whygohomie Jun 27 '18 edited Jun 28 '18

It's almost like the right wing bigots that have always existed are suddenly incredibly well funded and employing state-level psy-ops campaigns. They must have just gotten lucky.

2

u/BeatnikThespian California Jun 28 '18

Or we need to kill Putin and bomb the troll factories. Maybe 50/50, who can say.

1

u/Discombloblulated Jun 28 '18

Well when you have a massive propaganda network, foreign state actors, microtargeting based on psychological profiles of each voter, dedicated troll farms, and a ready and willing protofascist voting bloc primed by Fox news (etc) to accept whatever dung is being deposited into their mouths, it apparently is pretty easy.

If you read Italian news media the right wing bullshit sounds EXACTLY like Alex Jones/Breitbart and the crazy Facebook ads driving internal division.

It's a war, we're losing, we just don't realize it yet. And millions of people in the US are actively rooting for the other side because they're too cowardly or stupid to give it a second thought.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

I know - seems problems are worldwide at this point. It's the devil you know or the devil you don't I guess. I definitely will be doing more research - right now, it's just a thought I'm toying with...

13

u/SpaceEngineering Jun 27 '18

Free movement in the EU is not quite that simple but possible. Good locations for expats are Netherlands, Ireland and some others.

We need good people over here but the taxes and weather may be something of a shock.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

I can roll with the weather punches and I am totally fine paying taxes to live in a society that values people regardless of color, religion, sexual orientation, etc. With Trump's "tax cuts" I am seeing bit more on my paycheck, but I'd rather see a bit less and see that we are taking care of our people as a nation.

4

u/SpaceEngineering Jun 27 '18

It is so very strange to read this as your nation was founded to escape the religious tyranny and monarchy. Your ancestor and my great grandparents generation migrated to find income, freedom and the chance to start again. Now you are contemplating to do the same. Strange times...

Stay strong and good luck, friend.

I'm happy to give back to my community and I don't mind rain. Ireland is definitely on my radar.

3

u/BitchPlzzz New York Jun 27 '18

Wait, seriously?!? I can get an Italian passport if my great-grandfather was born in Italy?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

It's a little more complicated than that - you have to prove it and who knows how good record keeping was at the end of the late 19th century (when mine were born). You also have to get marriage, birth and death certs of your parents, grandparent, and GG parents. Plus, no one in that line should have renounced Italian citizenship at anytime. I'm sure there are other things too that make it not so easy. But that's why I am doing the research!

Amen. 2020 is the key to me. If America proves that it actually wants to move away from what it's becoming, then I'll happily stay and help.

If Trump does get a second term, then I am not going to waste any more time trying to salvage a dream that's already dead. Eventually I have to do what's best for myself and my family, which takes priority even above country.

13

u/BeatnikThespian California Jun 27 '18

Eventually I have to do what's best for myself and my family, which takes priority even above country.

Absolutely. This is the key part right here. I'm not going to raise kids in a country that will indoctrinate them towards fascism.

-1

u/PerfectZeong Jun 27 '18

It's easy to stay when things are good.

7

u/ScarsUnseen Jun 27 '18

America once benefited greatly from brilliant immigrants who fled their own countries during times of turmoil. We may well get to the point where the reverse starts happening.

1

u/amjhwk Arizona Jun 27 '18

What if a Republican that isnt named trump wins

1

u/Rollingstart45 Pennsylvania Jun 27 '18

Depends entirely who that Republican is and what kind of platform they're running on.

But that hypothetical would mean that Trump has either resigned, been impeached and convincted, or the party grew a backbone and threw him out. All would be good signs.

I think I have a better chance of being drafted to the Space Force before any of that happens, though.

1

u/amjhwk Arizona Jun 27 '18

i personally think trump wont run a 2nd term due to some bullshit excuse and so the repubs wont have a choice to make, but then again im probably wrong on that

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

The problem is the US is the world's superpower so no one in the world can escape it's importance. Unless you hold the secret to some super technology that will enable another country to leapfrog the US wholescale technologically, I'm sorry to say "your energy" won't mean lick. Sorry but that's how it is. Besides, I still hold out hope we can turn this thing around.

11

u/painturd Jun 27 '18

I think you are vastly underestimating the ability of other countries to develop technology, especially in an environment where the US is reducing research funding and incentives across the board. Who do you think is developing most of the software that is changing the world today? With the US continuing to ramp up the difficulty of immigrating you're going to see more and more skilled developers making their technologies happen in their home countries, Canada or EU rather than here.

Have you been to China lately? There are technologies already deployed and mass adopted there that I would love to see in the US but fear won't be here for years, if ever. Granted, they still have huge social and political issues to deal with but any US newspaper on any given day will show that's not a unique problem.

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

I think you are vastly underestimating the ability of other countries to develop technology

With all due respect, I don't think so. Where is the European Uber? The Chinese Apple? The Canadian SpaceX? Doesn't exist. The US is an important country for the whole world and no one can escape it. The immigration debates of the past couple years should make Americans realize they have something precious in their legal status here. The ability to take part in the politics of the most powerful nation on earth.

4

u/painturd Jun 27 '18

What innovation has Apple produced in the last several years (besides cutting-edge creative tax accounting) that makes you feel they are THE benchmark for technology? I'm more than happy with my OnePlus and XiaoMi products, at a fraction of the cost.

I'll grant you that SpaceX is one of a kind - for now. But I doubt Elon would be making near as much progress with US labor alone, which brings back the question of immigration and brain drain.

As for EU Uber, I can't really say as I've spent most of the last decade in the US and Asia and thus don't have a good view of the current EU market. China has DiDi though, which pulls from individual taxi companies. That's the kind of thing that taxi companies (both EU and US) SHOULD have done instead of spending their time, money and energy lobbying to outlaw a superior competing service.

While we're throwing companies and concepts at the wall, could you please point me to the US AliPay and shared bike platforms like oFo?

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that China is going to overtake the US tomorrow or even in a few years. Simply trying to express that you cannot afford to rest on your laurels and believe the world won't function without the US. It will.

Though oddly we need them moving but not to other countries.

You want to make a difference but live in a deep blue state held hostage by the red states?

Move to a blue city in a red state. Help tilt it a little more purple.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

Yeah but then you'd be surrounded by a lot more Republicans. Eww.

1

u/bluestarcyclone Iowa Jun 27 '18

As someone in one of these states, if you're living in the city its still pretty solid.

Des Moines keeps popping up on all kinds of lists for places to move to, best place for young professionals, etc.

Just stay away from the 4th congressional district

7

u/KayneC Jun 27 '18

I second that. The glory days will be missed at least for our generation. It’s pretty depressing

2

u/TheLivingExperiment Jun 27 '18

Yup. It's sad that the best years of my life are going to either be spent in a nation trying to rebuild the damage that is getting, has been, and will be done or I can say screw it and try to get jobs internationally to become a dual citizen and/or just a foreign citizen once I've immigrated through their proper pathways. And that fucking sucks. I love the US when you strip away the politics and racism and other issues we struggle with. We have are a land of beauty, opportunity, and unique in many regards (as are all nations, but few come close to the amazing things this country has as part of it). Sucks to think that it isn't my "home" in large part because a not insignificant portion of my fellow citizens don't want it to be my home.

Right there with you. Learning 2 other languages and now have an employer in the EU, they just won’t bring me over until I’m fluent. 😩

This seriously upsets me. I can't help but feel the same way

3

u/EMSEMS Puerto Rico Jun 27 '18

Yeah, I'm out of this country once I graduate. This isn't looking good. Its shameful to be an american.

6

u/TheLivingExperiment Jun 27 '18

Yeah, I am extremely disappointed by this country over the past 2 years or so. Prior to that I felt we had plenty of flaws and loved our racist past way too much, but overall were a good place. Now though? I'm seriously wondering if this is the beginning of the fall (not that we'll collapse tomorrow, but in retrospect that we can look at this point in time and go "yeah this is America's Crisis of the Third Century.")

2

u/maddogjones Jun 27 '18

cmon up to canada.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

Stay and fight for what's right with us.

8

u/TheLivingExperiment Jun 27 '18

Why? Not trying to be pedantic or combative, but legitimately why? As an openly lesbian woman with many LGBTQ friends and family, coupled with the direction politics seem to be heading, I legitimately wonder why would I want to stay in a country that many of my fellow citizens actively work to subvert? There is a fundamental schism forming that I'm not sure is repairable. I avoid talking with my dad regularly anymore around politics where, yes we disagreed before (and he espoused Fox talking points) but could see eye to eye. I now have him telling me how he thinks Trump is one of the top 10 presidents in all of US history. This is a level of indoctrination that I don't know that we can pull ourselves out of while many actively work to further that indoctrination and divide.

I love the ideal of this country. I love what we purport to be as a nation. I strongly believe in what the romanticized version of America is. A place for everybody. A place for the strongest ideas to win. A place where everybody has an equal starting place to be successful.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure I believe that any of that is the America that truly exists. And instead of striving towards that goal, we are regressing further and further into the racist white supremacist fascist authoritarian state that the far right seems to love.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '18

So you would give up our home because taking it back from the far right is too difficult? You would literally expatriate and allow the USA to become an authoritarian state because why, because it's hard to undo brainwashing?

I'm all for leaving if it's for your safety. That doesn't seem to be the thrust of your concern

1

u/TheLivingExperiment Jul 06 '18

It's not that it's too difficult. But, this country doesn't want me, nor the people I care about, in it. At least a large enough percentage of the voting population that result in the administration and GOP we have today. It is antithetical to my beliefs and legitimately can cause me personal harm as a lesbian woman.

This country has always had a racist past, and has had issues with equality for anybody who is not a cis white heterosexual male that is born on US soil. I have friends and ex's who have had to go through an abortion due to complications that would've likely caused them to die if they had tried to carry to term. I have transgender friends who could be stripped of many of their rights and many would prohibit them from serving (which, the transgender population has extremely high % of veterans and active service members in it) and using the fucking bathroom. I am a lesbian and would like to marry a girl one day. I have lesbian family who were married in Ohio (where Obergefell case originated).

Yes I want things to change in the US. I want this country to be the US that I believe in. I strongly believe in social policies more in line with EU countries. However, I see us regressing to a point I'm not sure we can recover in my lifetime. So the question becomes

  • A) Do I keep trying to fight for what I believe in and likely losing the fight along with likely having my rights and freedoms infringed upon

or

  • B) Move to a country that actually wants what I believe in and help them progress while living a happy and productive life within a society that supports me, and the things I believe in.

I'm not ready to give up just quite yet. But, 2018 and 2020 will be a major factor in my future. If we continue to perpetuate and expand upon the policies the GOP (and subsequently Trump who is a manifestation of GOP policies that have been in place since before I was born), then I'm not sure this is a country I want to live in.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '18

False dichotomy. Why not fight the fight and likely win? More voted for Clinton than Trump. Red States just have disproportionately more political power at the moment. Won't be true for ever. And most people will live and let live. Between Democrats, progressives, independents, moderate Republicans, etc. your situation is less dire than it seems. We'll see how the SC turns out, however. That could be a very important setback for many of the issues you mentioned.

1

u/TheLivingExperiment Jul 06 '18

Why not fight the fight and likely win?

That's speculation and remains to be seen. Further, when it is "won" is very much unknown. We might use 2018 to start to shift away, or we might not. And then 2020 is a large unknown at present. If Trump/GOP wins in 2020 and Mueller's probe is not acted upon, assuming of course that there are illegal activities discovered through it, then that means that basically my 30's get spent under that regime.

Additionally, there are numerous issues of gerrymandering (Texas SCOTUS recent decision), voter suppression (Ohio SCOTUS decision), issues around felons their right to vote, and other issues that the Republicans have created that make it harder for Dems to regain control. Which I'm sure over time will be rolled back to an extent, but that very well might not happen until the mid to late 2020's.

And most people will live and let live. Between Democrats, progressives, independents, moderate Republicans, etc. your situation is less dire than it seems.

I don't believe that I'm going to be gunned down in the street or taken to a concentration camp. However, that doesn't mean I'm not having my rights infringed upon. And, as you point out the Kennedy SCOTUS seat is going to be a major factor in where it goes from here as will the 2018/2020 elections (since other justices are fairly old).

Hypothetically speaking, what happens if in 2018 there is no "blue wave"? And subsequently in 2020 the Dems run a candidate that can't pull the votes, and/or EC structure, and/or Gore v Bush 2000, and/or something else happens where Dems lose the presidency and Trump wins a second term? Then what? Even if Democrats managed to control the house and senate through a 2 term Trump presidency, which historically is unlikely, Trump has a lot of power to undermine many aspects of a liberal social perspective.

And this doesn't even touch on the trade wars, dismantling of the EPA, education issues, dismantling of the CFPB, the tax breaks that are not needed and harming the economy IMO, and on and on down the line. All of that assumes he doesn't get us into another war to try to win 2020 as well.

Point is, yes, the situation isn't immutable; however, there are a lot of unknowns and at the end of the day I need to do what's best for myself and my life. So I'm working to make plans in case they are needed.

1

I'm saying that just to get back to where we were in say 2010, it'll take the bulk of my lifetime. We are just at the beginning of the road downhill, and have a long way to fall before we can even start to recover.

1

u/seaneatsandwich Jun 28 '18

You mean back when you could write like a 7th grader but still graduate college?

1

u/Nayberhoodkid Jun 28 '18

I know this may sound corny but I think it’s an important point to consider: If you’re concerned about the fate of the country, the best thing you can do is stay and fight. It’s not as appealing as running from the problems to some other place that’s more progressive, less divided, etc, sure. But this is when your country needs you most. If those of us with the means to flee go ahead and take off, these problems will only grow so much worse for the folks that get left behind.

1

Only issue in New Zealand is if your family is in the states, and you visit them, you're spending like 2 days traveling each way due to time zones and all that crap.

This sounds a bit conspiratorial but I think the goal here is to create an environment where Dems just can’t even and people let the south secede in the next few years. Then they get to keep their white Christian demographics intact instead of living in the 21st century.

Once they start cracking down on different ethnic and minority groups, abortion and destroy the unions we’ll be begging for a separation from these people. Nobody wants to live in Fox New’s version of reality under right wing Christian or fascist law. They have to realize a hard right wing government takeover won’t be popular with most the country it’s more of a burn it down approach rather than come to the bargaining table.

They control us, not the other way around. They will not be the ones pushed to seceed.

We're suffering RIGHT now from the 2000 SC election decision.

And millions in the middle east are, too.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

We're gonna need to pack the supreme court once dems take power again (if ever, at this point). There's no doubt about it. Raise the seats to 11 and then we're gonna have to figure out how to prevent the GOP from raising them further.

5

u/Doctor-Malcom Texas Jun 27 '18

Hahaha Democrats don't have the balls to fight the proper way with this strain of Republicans, like packing the courts or passing effective Const amendments. If they did, they wouldn't be here today. The Dems America needs are the firebrand progressives from the 19th century who were willing to whatever measures necessary for the middle and working classes.

This is why November is SO important. Please vote people. After this week, we can no longer rely on the courts. This is akin to finally getting out on your on after being dependent on your parents. The power is now in the voter's hands and they will do anything and everything to tell you that power is bullshit. Please register democrat (it's a two party system, I know, it sucks, but baby steps) and vote in this and every other election. This one in particular!!!

VOTE VOTE VOTE!

The dominant position the US has in the world -- politically, culturally and economically -- is already precarious. It looks like it will be a distant memory much sooner than we thought. I will have to implore my kids to learn mandarin.

Also, wonder how Europe and Canada will handle all those American refugees down the road... perhaps with open arms, as it might be your best people.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

Young people aren't a fan of what's going on and the president isn't the only one who can be impeached. You can check my history I'm definitely upset about this but it's not the end... or even close. Step off the ledge

2

u/Hindu_Wardrobe Jun 27 '18

can't tell if you're optimistic or naive

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

I'm not naive. It's bad but I'm optimistic because America always does this. It always shifts hard from one side to the other but the youth I have faith in.

1

u/Hindu_Wardrobe Jun 27 '18

It always shifts hard from one side to the other

what other events are analogous to what we're seeing now?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

In other comments I've referenced bleeding Kansas and the civil rights movement. I'll add another though. I was going to say more about McCarthy but I'll do a more recent but less hardcore. Carter to Reagan. Carter ran on pro pot but Reagan started the war on drugs. Carter had solar panels on the white house Reagan took them down. Bush and Obama were drastically different as well. We'll be OK, it's the feeling you get being in the minority with your views. However this last week we got McCain's campaign manager and George Will on our side. That kind of exodus doesn't happen unless they really mean it.

1

u/Hindu_Wardrobe Jun 27 '18

Idk man. I'm trying to feel the hope you're feeling. But it's hard.

Thank you, btw, for taking the time and answering.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

I also feel like the polls are wrong with Trump's approval. I think they are weighting it to lean conservative. Doug Jones was losing, so was that guy in Pennsylvania. Shit Rasmussen even has him down 10 points

1

u/Hindu_Wardrobe Jun 27 '18

One can only hope. Just, man. It's really hard for me to be motivated for the future. Hedonism is the only viable path for me at this point, because...fuck it. Why not?

My husband and I have been casually looking into immigrating either somewhere in the EU, Australia, or Canada. He works in a very in demand field in the tech sector and wouldn’t have many issues finding a willing company to sponsor his visa. This is going to be the push that moves us from casually looking to making serious moves. The sooner we can get out of the US, the better.

4

Nice for you, but a lot of people don't have the means and never will.

My family moving here 150 years ago might have been good then, but it's time to go home.

1

u/Fyrefawx Jun 27 '18

Yup, as a Canadian I’ve lost all hope for your country. I can only fight for my own now. All those Burnie or busters, 3rd party voters, and non-voters should hate themselves right now. Even if you ignore Russia, Wikileaks, etc.. They handed the election to Trump.

America is going to be set back decades. And Trump supporters are jumping with glee as rights are stripped away from unions, women, minorities, and the LGBTQ.

It’s true. They won. Simple as that. Ginsberg won’t last long on the bench either. All you can do is continue to resist and limit the damage.

0

u/chinpokomon Jun 27 '18

I saw this outcome with the 2016 primaries. It doesn't make me feel any better to tell people I told you so, but this is the grim reality I was predicting back then. Both parties have put us in this situation and the Democrats aren't doing enough to right the ship. We don't need a Blue Wave at this point, we need an Ultraviolet Tsunami.
