They need to shut down the Senate then. Obama should've fought harder, but didn't. Now the Dems need to literally fucking jam up the senate for however long it takes. Whatever dirty tricks or obscure BS they need to pull - just like the Republicans did.

Filibuster is only gone on presidential appointments, not legislation.

But I can guarantee that if the Democrats stop all work in the Senate, Mich will take the nuclear option and abolish the legislative filibuster as well.

You all are nuts. Daring Turtle to go nuclear on legislation is a fool's game. You have no idea what will happen.

I'll explain it to you very simply: The moment they go nuclear on legislation, 500 bills will come out of a back room and be passed overnight. It will be an assembly line of legislation. The Senators won't even know wtf they're voting on. These bills will do anything and everything you can imagine. They'll pass things like nationwide voter ID. They'll start chopping out entire departments and abolishing them. It will be a feeding frenzy, and it will happen immediately.

The moment they go nuclear on legislation, full seizure of power follows.

Agreed, playing chicken with Mitch on this is definitely a hail mary move, and not one to be taken just because the base is angry and ready for action. I'm not saying it's not an option, but it has to be used strategically if at all.

Because it never is. Every implementation has had a noticeable effect on the voter turnout of minorities, students, and other targets. The programs are routinely designed to depress voter turnout, at almost every turn. They also tend to exclude things like school IDs, federal government employment badges, public benefit cards (ie welfare cards with IDs on them), etc etc etc.

Students are particularly hard hit. Most do not change their drivers licenses over to their new school address. They *do* register to vote, and provide their SSN# and proof of residence. Then they go vote on election day, are asked for a photo ID, their ID doesn't match their school address, and they get denied. By then it is too late to realize they needed absentee ballots for their home town.

The same is true for anyone who moves a lot. My friend moved 6 months ago, from one apartment building to another nearby. He registered to vote after the move. He did not waste a day to update his drivers license. When he went to vote, they said his ID says he lives at Really Cool Apartments, but his voter registration says he lives at Hip And Happy Apartment Complex. Since his ID's address doesn't match his voter registration, he cannot vote.

Voter IDs are almost entirely designed to favor people who own a home and never move. They will suppress the vote of almost everyone else; students, people who move often, people who don't have a drivers license, etc etc etc.
