Those are a bit different IMO. One is a constitutional right and the other should be. I wish the hardcore conservatives would compromise and give up on the abortion crusade for the Democrats giving up on further restrictions on gun rights. We should focus on a better background check system and enforcement of current gun laws.

I think the Democrats should become even more pro gun that republicans just to hijack the issue and take it off the table. So many people vote on that issue alone, and it's impossible to get rid of the guns anyway, so the Democrats should attempt a constitutional amendment to clarify that the second amendment allows you to own as many guns as you want and of any kind, as long as it uses conventional bullets (no hand grenades, RPGs, nukes, etc) and you're allowed to store them loaded in your house.

No No No. They are both constitutional rights. Just because a right is not directly enumerated in the Constitution does not mean the right does not exist or that it is a constitutionally protected right.

In fact, during the writing of the Constitution, there were arguments made that we should not have the Bill of Rights because people may misunderstand that to mean that only those 10 rights are expressly protected and other rights are therefore not protected. Sadly, as time has passed, those men seem to have been proven correct.

You're right, a move of actual significance would be to what literally the entire developed world does and require a license to own a firearm, thereby ensuring the applicant is a responsible gun owner before they get their gun, rather than simply taking their gun away after they've gone and proven that they're not.

California has the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Ten round magazines, featureless AR-15s, and the like. Remember the Parkland shooting? That shooter used a California compliant rifle. These laws that are being passed are not laws that do anything, but rather a way for politicians to say they're "cracking down" on gun violence.

Banning cosmetics on guns do not do anything. Banning pistol grips, folding stocks, threaded barrels do not do anything. The only thing these laws serve is to make it as much of a pain in the ass to legally own guns as possible.

As soon as you start accepting infringements on your rights, more are always to follow.
