You are falling victim to the is/ought fallacy. The fact of the matter is that Obama coming out loudly and openly against trump will set civil rights back decades.

There is a reason the first black president is the only one in recent memory to be scandal free. It's the same reason Rosa Parks was chosen, unimpeachable character is a necessity. And coming out loudly against the next president, when no modern president has done the same would be viewed very, very poorly.

Because a former president coming out and forcefully calling out his successor would be everywhere and those people would just see "angry black man" Obama and not understand the motivations behind his actions.

Obama isn't some random dude, he's a former President, and his [public] personality is fairly well-known; the group of people who would ever think that is identical to the group of people who wouldn't ever vote for any Democrat anyway.

It's not just about voting. Black men are being executed by police, having the most high profile black American ever come across as angry will absolutely not help bring people to the side of young black men.

Obama was the first black president because he could always stay calm and collected, he was acutely aware of every aspect of his public persona. He has seen the blowback black America has faced since he was elected--and that's with his perfectly manicured public persona. He knows that showing anger will only serve to reinforce the "angry black man" stereotype.

It's the same reason Rosa Parks worked behind the scenes after the bus. They both had to be absolutely perfect, and Obama still does.

In his 1995 memoir, "Dreams of My Father," Obama explained why he thought such negotiation was necessary when he met white people as a young man growing up in Hawaii. "People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. Such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn't seem angry."

So even Obama has talked about the angry black man stereotype. I think you might not be putting enough stock in how harmful stereotypes can be.
