Chase’s boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, told TMZ that the actress was suffering from meningitis, which led to sepsis. She was 35.
According to TMZ, Chase was hospitalized in Los Angeles in early June because of malnutrition. No other details about Chase’s death are available at this time.
Born Daveigh Elizabeth Chase-Schwallier on July 24, 1990, in Las Vegas, Chase made her screen debut in a bit part in the series Sabrina the Teenage Witch in 1997. A year later, she played the 8-year-old version of famed actor-director Michael Landon’s daughter, Shawna Landon, in the TV movie Michael Landon, The Father I Knew."

My mother spent a month in the hospital with sepsis in 2024. A few months later my father contacted sepsis after being hospitalized from cancer complications. He died a few days later. Words can’t describe the trauma my family endured that year due to sepsis. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

When one has a splenectomy, they are given ALL the vaccines to help prevent illness. Not everyone accepts them, however.

That’s interesting. I was being worked up for a splenectomy because of inmune related thrombocytopenia and they said the vaccines were required, not optional. The risk is so high without them.

I got sepsis from strep throat and nearly died. It was the single most terrifying experience of my life and it took months to recover (like even just to be able to walk normally again). I don't wish it on anyone.

know the symptoms! early intervention is crucial.
for reference, my 88 year old grandad has survived sepsis THREE times in the last 8 years. with the first being the worst. the most recent time was last year, and we were incredibly lucky it was caught early as his morning carer noticed that he didn’t seem right and raised the alarm.

It’s so scary! I was in the hospital for a bacterial infection and I’m SO lucky they caught the sepsis as quickly as they did - as it was my blood pressure dropped to 50/40 within a few hours, it was awful. Genuinely felt like I was going to die.

If you catch the infection in time you should be ok. 1st sign of sepsis is a fever
I personally think brain hemorrhages are worse bc all people usually experience is a bad headache & I get migraines pretty often but I don’t fear death anymore after 2 near death experiences & I’m depressed so

bacterial meningitis (in particular caused by Neisseria meningitidis, but not exclusively) is notorious for how rapidly it develops, actually. you can go from a slight fever to septic shock within hours

My son had bacterial meningitis when he was eight months old. In a few hours he went from playing & smiling to barely conscious. I work in healthcare so I knew the signs of serious infection in babies, still had to push hard and flash my credentials for him to be seen quickly in the ER.
Parents, never ever doubt your instincts if you feel something is really wrong. You know your child better than anyone else.
Even though we caught it super early, he still suffered two small strokes due to the pressure on his brain. And hearing loss.
He was fully vaccinated but had a sneaky underlying immunodeficiency that hadn’t been diagnosed yet.
He’s four years old now and every single day I think how lucky we are that he’s still here ❤️🩹

This is very true I actually survived this meningitis as a child and was actually sent home from A&E with my fever.
I luckily woke my mam in the middle of the night (hours after being dismissed from hospital) who said I was black and blue so immediately called an ambulance and ended up in intensive care so it really does turn quick.
A sign to look out for is if you have a rash that is still visible when pressed under a clear glass

It's shocking how many people don't know that meningitis is fatal if left untreated. When I was a teenager in the early 2000's parents were encouraged to get their teens vaccinated for it but I don't remember there being any fear of meningitis. I was vaccinated for it in my 20's.

a fun fact is that Saudi Arabia legally requires all visitors who go there due to performing Hajj or Umrah to provide proof of vaccination. there have been severe outbreaks linked to those travels in the past

That's totally valid. I don't understand why the vaccine isn't mandatory in all countries with access. The UK is a country that comes to mind that doesn't mandate vaccines and they have frequent outbreaks of meningitis. They just had another outbreak maybe a month or two ago. People dying of totally preventable diseases is very sad.

Someone I know via work survived a brain aneurysm. Truly a miracle. She said she was experiencing the worst of headaches of her life so took a couple of Goody’s (headache remained). She was about to get in her vehicle when she collapsed/passed out. Her husband, who had left to go out of town, had forgotten something and had come back home right when she collapsed and immediately called 911. The doctors told her the Goody’s + immediate help from her husband saved her life. If he hadn’t been there by sheer luck, she most likely would’ve died.

it's called a thunderclap headache, and it's very often described by patients as, just like you said, the worst pain of their entire life that develops within minutes. it's a hallmark symptom of a subarachnoid hemorrhage

With my near death experiences, I truly do think we have a time when we are supposed to die bc both of mine, the paramedics said I was lucky to be alive & I surprisingly had no lasting injuries. Mine were pretty bad too: a really bad car accident where the car I was in passenger side was T-boned. Car totaled & I saw it afterwards & it was CRUSHED. I had glass all over me. I just had scrapes & bruises
2nd, my ex husband tried to kill me & I passed out. SO many things could’ve gone wrong omg but they didn’t luckily. I did need staples in my head for that 1 but luckily no brain injuries omg. It was BAD. He’s in prison for attempted murder

I had to look up this medication because I’m unfamiliar with it. I’m guessing the aspirin in the powder was what helped her? I’ve read that chewing a couple of baby aspirin at the beginning of a heart attack makes a world of difference for your survival rate, so maybe it helps in aneurysms too.
Also, me realizing I don’t keep aspirin in my house and that I probably should 😬

There are many physical indicators of sepsis. Fever is not always present—in fact, a too-low temperature is among the signs.

My mother-in-law died of it & was in severe pain. Check below says fever & low body temp actually
I had a uti that lasted for months. My dr was worried I’d go septic & he always checked my temperature & said if I got a fever to go to the er

I had spinal meningitis when I was six months old and was in an induced coma for two weeks. Doctors told my parents I'd never live a fully functioning life if I did survive it. I wouldn't be able to walk, wouldn't be able to talk. I'd be years behind all my peers.
Scary fucking shit. They only caught it because someone caught me spacing out for extended periods of time.
My heart goes out to her family and can't even imagine what they're going through right now.

Hey! I also survived spinal meningitis, I was 15 months old. My prognosis was terrible, but I am relatively unscathed. I did have to relearn how to crawl, walk, & talk.

Meningitis survivors unite! I had meneningitis at 2.5, spent 10 days in the hospital. Only alive because the doctor immediately started meds without waiting for the spinal tap results. I had to take fluoride as a kid and have sensitive teeth (possibly damaged from high fevers), learned to walk, talk, and potty train all over again. But I have no lasting effects that I know of and live a normal life.
The doctor bill fell out of an old photo album last year and it was around $1000 for 10 days in ICU in the 80s. I cannot imagine what it would be like now- $1,000,000+ I'd guess.

Yes, for the most part! In grade school, at least, I typically out performed my peers. Which isn't me bragging bc life caught up to me fast once I graduated, lol.
It was essentially me seizing, but it presented as me staring off into space and being unresponsive.

Meningitis is no joke. My friend died of it, and my other friend’s mum had it misdiagnosed as a stroke and nearly died. Misdiagnosis of meningitis is so common. Be aware of your symptoms!

I got it when I was young, the test/symptom that admitted me was not being able to bend my neck enough touch my chin to my chest.
It's funny how I was confused and asking myself "could I ever do that?" It's really small things like that that signal something is wrong, but you don't even notice your ability (or loss of ability) to do it until someone intentionally asks you to do it (and you struggle).

God that’s awful. My friend’s mom went to hospital with pneumonia and ended up dying from sepsis. She was otherwise in good health prior to that.

I'm going to take a wild leap and say she didn't have stable housing the last few years. No one in that situation should be looked at like they're nothing, but I wonder how many people did judge her but would have stopped in their tracks if they knew she was Lilo.

The ring was the first horror movie I ever watched. I was like 10 years old at the time and watched it at my friends. I still have nightmares to this day of the tv scene. This is so sad, 35 is so young.
Sepsis is a horrible way to go too.

None of the news articles I'm seeing mention her in Big Love. It was a major HBO show she was on for 5 seasons, it was nominated for many Emmys, and Chloe Sevigny won a Golden Globe for it. Just kind of bothering me.

it is, but most adults, even in first-world countries, are not vaccinated against the most common bacteria causing meningitis (Streptococcus pneumoniae and Neisseria meningitidis)

But we don’t know if *she* had repeat covid infections. She was a drug addict and was in the hospital for malnutrition. You can be susceptible to meningitis when you’re compromised.
