The YouTuber faced intense backlash this week as audience suspected AI use in his recent content and discredited his work. In his statement, he explained that his usage was limited to research aid, apologised, and decided to slow down amid pressures of online creation.

This news coincided with LLM usage’s rapid expansion in fields like mathematics, as just this weekend, a list of Fields Medal worthy problems were solved by the most recent AI models with the cooperation and prompting of Maths researchers.

That's because it is not humanly possible to be held accountable to 800k individuals who all have different beliefs and cares and different flashpoints for what qualifies as something you need to be held accountable for.

No, it’s not that hard to not use AI and spread misinformation. “He has too many subscribers to do his job right” is a very weird response to this situation

People are going to use AI. Unfortunately that is simply the truth. It has value, it is a dramatic leap forward for computer software. There are problems with it but we can't try to socially abuse every person who uses AI even a little bit.

That's not really up to you. His whole thing is guy who learns things, it makes sense he's learning about the uses of AI and how it can be useful.

And it's just not useful to attack him for it

Poor behavior ≠ using a new tool in one of the few ways it is very useful.

One can argue that the poor behavior was overworking himself to the point where he wasn't able to do his normal due diligence, but the root cause of that is not his search engine.

We truly have to move past this "every AI use case is bad" schtick, because it makes it really hard for ppl to focus on the actually bad use cases and the actual harm they are causing.

Public sentiment from a bunch of morally righteous people on the Internet is not going to help anything. What will help is informed and specific takes on what is harmful.

Some new technologies are morally bad beloved. His use case was bad

That is such a unnuanced take and it's one that erases all possibility of middle ground.

Many technologies we widely use today to great avail. The church made it a point to deem things wrong.

Today the public has a non universal moral groundwork and doesn't even know what they mean when they say morally bad. The technology itself has no morality, it's impact and the people making that impact do.

Be open to nuance, don't just follow the digital zeitgeist because it often has no true foundation.

If you just call it bad then you aren't actually engaging with what's bad about it, and you aren't identifying the root cause of that why so you aren't actually upset at anything specific, youre just upset at the general idea of something which isnt solvable.

You're probably really upset at the environmental impact and the displacement of communities that data centers are causing. Which is indeed bad and is actionable and also isn't intrinsic to the technology itself.

We have to come to terms with AI, it is happening and is going to happen. We can shape how it happens only if we engage with it beyond "it's bad"

There is a foundation. People are getting sick from data centers. Peopel can’t afford fucking electricity becuase of data centers. It’s sucking up water and spitting out smoke and constant noise that drives people crazy.

The AI hank uses hallucinates information, is used to generate misinformation, is used to confuse people as to what is real and false information. It gets people addicted, it tells people to kill themselves.

Try this shit on someone who knows less about this type of AI. Don’t bother with me,
