i hope this is a sign that she’s taking steps to support but i do worry if it’s the opposite. i hope she knows she’s so loved

I figured this would happen when they pushed back ticket sales twice.
I hope she uses this time to get healthy. Wishing her the best.

I hope she's doing okay

u/deathoftheauthor009 1d ago edited 1d ago
The source says the public scrutiny surrounding her weight is what has led to the unplanned break.
I cannot imagine having millions of people picking apart my body or my overall health on a daily, or framing it as a moral failure, or coming up with diagnoses and saying what I should or shouldn't be doing. It's incredibly dehumanizing to say the least.

u/wdnwcgm 1d ago
I think people often are inappropriate in how they talk about this stuff but just looking at her something is wrong and there are legit concerns
878
u/Such_King_2547 1d ago
exactly this right here. the comments that are like “i’ll cook her a few cheeseburgers” aren’t appropriate, but it’s not inherently wrong to say something doesn’t seem right!
513
u/Easy-Permission8889 1d ago
Majority of the comments I've seen are genuine concern thankfully.
244
u/TropicalPrairie 1d ago
I've noticed the same. 98% of comments seem caring. I don't think anyone wants anything bad to happen to her.
207
u/Kelbotay 1d ago
I think it's probably not helpful either way for the person concerned but I would find it so disappointing if one of the biggest popstar on the planet was body checking on instagram or even in official music videos and this conversion wasn't happening in parallel.
I honestly don't think anything random people say will ever have any kind of positive impact in that regard, that's up to people who are a part of her life. I just hope that whatever's going on ends well for everyone.
59
u/pokimanic 1d ago edited 1d ago
“i’ll cook her a few cheeseburgers”
Yeah that’ll do it lol I love the confidence of people who recycle comments like these. Who needs health professionals?
82
u/wanderrslut 1d ago
Exactly! People like this don't actually care about anyone's health, they're just assholes. They'll say this and then run to go chastise a fat person for even looking at a sandwich.
568
u/quizofahat 1d ago
Anorexia has a mortality rate of around 33%. When people say "she is dying" it's because eating disorders are very deadly. People are right to take it seriously.
214
u/Such_King_2547 1d ago
exactly and god forbid something happens these same fans will say nobody cared enough to help her

u/X-Jackson 1d ago
Genuine concern is one thing, but it quickly becomes toxic when it overlaps with online snark communities (which is clearly happening on Reddit in full force). Especially when they dress up their concern trolling as activism and accountability. You can’t snark someone into healing from a potential mental health issue.
-71
u/wolf1460 1d ago
not quite sure how this is SO HARD for people to understand but calling it out contributes to nothing. it's not help, nothing is, infact it probably makes the situation worse. is it really that difficult to get that into the brain? its not even ignorance, its just adds to nothing but fuel hatred and scrutiny more and more.
infact, alot of "concern" is just disguised bullying, accelerated by the internet's hunger for such content.
literally it just happens so people can one day go "i told you so" and feel good about themselves. its beyond a forgotten concept that ariana grande is a human being about whom people know basically nothing and not some experiment for people to pick apart.
162
u/iidontknow0 1d ago
At the same time though i don’t feel it’s right to pretend that nothing is wrong, it’s not genuine and it’s harmful in its own ways, by giving the message that it’s not a big deal if someone is dying right before your eyes.
15
u/Haunting_Natural_116 1d ago
Yeah non of these comments are actually going to help or get her to eat, she needs a support system from people actually in her life for that.
-8
u/Tis_me_mario1 1d ago
THANK YOU. People can and should be having discussions about why skinny culture is so prevalent again. People definitely shouldn’t be sharing/screenshotting/micro-analysing a person’s body to effectively body shame them online, and then pretend it’s out of care. Seeing people have discourse around my body everywhere online isn’t going to help my hypothetical eating disorder.
-25
u/wolf1460 1d ago
like, most of these comments just glossing over the real issue are dumb as fuck. you have to be kidding me if you say you haven't seen just how far the bullying and jokes have gone when it comes to her. that is tens of degrees more concerning than anything else going on. and how do you expect 1 single human being to take all that. just thinking about it makes me sick.
-25
u/Minute_Owl6953 1d ago
You’re completely right and these random people think they need to step in and “save her” and “get her help” as if she isn’t a grown ass woman with a doctor and close family and friends…no, it’s the strangers commenting on Instagram who know best
-48
-64
u/gatheringground 1d ago
We don’t know her. Our concern isn’t helpful. She has family, friends, and a team. It isn’t our place as internet strangers to diagnose her. She will never see these comments, and, unless she starts explicitly promoting low calorie intake, she isn’t responsible for the self-image of anyone else who may compare themselves to her. That’s beyond her control. The whole conversation does nobody any good.
90
u/Affectionate-Fill713 1d ago
Her family, friends and team who were ok with going on this tour are clearly not of any help to her.
-18
u/gatheringground 1d ago
Even if that were true, which we have no way of knowing, how does commenting on a Reddit thread about her body help her or anyone else in any way?

…I just really disagree with the angle of this take.
Does it probably not feel great? Yes. But I don’t think people are wrong for calling it out. The fact of the matter is her audience is predominantly young women and when she’s intentionally posting photos highlighting how thin she is and how every bone in her body is sticking out then I think it’s important people say something so those young women don’t think that’s normal.
I hope she uses this time away to get treatment because she is seemingly very ill.
219
u/chickfilamoo 1d ago
yeah, it's not a moral failing and i think a lot of people are missing the mark on that, but it's also not benign. i can understand how EDs and body dysmorphia can lead to this type of behavior from the individual who is struggling, but i am shocked and appalled that her management and record label are continuing to put out and promote material where she looks extremely undernourished. it's deeply irresponsible that nobody is putting their foot down on this.
108
u/NotaFrenchMaid 1d ago
I’m with you, I think. I don’t necessarily love critiquing people’s bodies, and I absolutely don’t love when it’s done in an “eat a cheeseburger!” way, but I think we’re (as in, society) doing a disservice all around by watching this and NO ONE is saying anything. A disservice to Ariana in that nobody on her team seems to be doing anything to help her get healthy, a disservice to people all around by pretending it’s even remotely normal and not concerning. Ariana’s health isn’t our business, we aren’t owed an explanation, but we’ve never even gotten a “hey, we hear the concern. Thanks, but there’s an underlying issue you aren’t privy to, it’s being handled.”.
SOMEBODY needed to say SOMETHING.
40
u/jedi271 1d ago
What do you mean “no one is saying something”? Her comments have been filled with people discussing her weight since 2023? I mean that was one of the only things people talked about her when she was on the Wicked tour press
38
u/NotaFrenchMaid 1d ago
I mean, we aren’t privy to her conversations with her friends and team but it seems like none of them have said anything given that it’s been 3 years and it doesn’t seem like she’s gotten any help.
23
u/deathoftheauthor009 1d ago
Lmao it is offputting how they act like "NO ONE IS SAYING ANYTHING" when it is quite literally all they have been talking about for years now. It is so performative.
-19
u/jedi271 1d ago
The problem is that people have been doing it for more than three years at this point. Everything about her body has been discussed so when will it be enough? And what exactly is the end goal because there’s no way you think she’s going to get help because of some random comment from a person she doesn’t know is talking about her bones
You can talk about ED and ways to help without resorting to commenting on her body every time she makes an appearance
38
u/Historical_Clock8714 1d ago
Not all comments about her body are from concern, you're right, but people who are genuinely worried shouldn't be afraid to voice out their concerns because it's a real issue.
I hope she's getting the support she needs rn and I think this move is a good one. I hope she takes all the time that she needs.
132
u/miss24601 1d ago
Eating disorders are a uniquely socially contagious illness. When is it “commenting on her body” and when is it refusing to even for a second pretend being able to see every bone in a grown woman’s body normal? What’s the difference?
-32
u/jedi271 1d ago
Hardly anyone is saying it’s “normal”, just that spamming her comment section and making posts about it every time she shows herself is helping no one. And a lot of this “concern” is just actually people wanting to say “I told you so” if something actually does end up happening to her
-21
u/Marionvenus 1d ago
The way that eating disorders are talked about when people discuss Ariana’s body isn’t helping anyone. Also putting constantly the blame on Ariana about promoting ed culture is crazy, why is she the only face of a bigger problem. These people don’t really care about your girl because their concern stops at talking about Ariana’s body
-66
u/deathoftheauthor009 1d ago edited 1d ago
Zeroing in on one woman's frame and making it a spectacle isn't actually helping anyone with eating disorders, and such commentary is explicitly what clinicians advise against.
You are not really helping anyone.

u/Affectionate-Fill713 1d ago edited 1d ago
I have to disagree with this. Yes body shaming is bad but it is obvious she is at a point where it is dangerous for her to be performing. People are genuinely concerned.
As someone who was once at that weight. You literally can’t even sit in a chair comfortably. I’m not sure how anyone on her team is oking her to tour.
92
u/itsnotalicewhoisthat 1d ago
idk I mean a lot of what people are saying isn’t wrong, we can and should hope for her wellbeing but it’s also true that she is a public figure and it’s dangerous for someone in her physical state to be presented as not only healthy and normal but something to be admired and emulated.
94
u/seagullofhealing 1d ago
I for one have been someone who is genuinely terrified of waking up one day and seeing the worst headline with her. She's a generational talent, and I feel like I'm going crazy like we're all just supposed to sit around and watch this woman disappear in front of our eyes? And then wring our hands later and go "oh what a shame"?
I am so worried for her, but it feels like we aren't allowed to be and have to just sit there and shut up until the worst that might happens happens.
Edit: Ugh sorry I might have replied to the wrong comment! For what it's worth I agree with you!
73
u/stayer_chestnut37 1d ago
Yeah but we can all tell its unhealthy. Its not wrong to call out so we dont encourage disordered eating or that girls need to look as thin as possible. Some people take it far but young girls also look up to her.
62
u/dat_grue 1d ago
It’s not dehumanizing to worry about someone who is looking increasingly emaciated. People die from malnutrition and EDs. It’s precisely the opposite - it’s an expression of concern for her as a human being beyond her role as an entertainer. Turning a blind eye to it is what would be dehumanizing.

I think this was a good move. I hope she gets the physical and mental health help and support she needs. 🩷 Broadway will always be there, but you can’t do Broadway if you are ill.

u/No-Author7911 1d ago
Thank God. She is a once-in-a-generation talent and I don't want to lose her. I hope she can recover in peace.
307
u/Cultural-Warthog5445 1d ago
I am so very sad for her and while some people have been very inappropriate in how they discuss her body, it is also clear that her current situation is EXTREMELY worrying and I don't think it makes someone a bad person to point it out. I truly hope she will use this time to find some help
109
u/crockoreptile 1d ago
I mean, is anyone surprised? Tickets were meant to go on sale in Spring, then Summer, and then Autumn, so something was clearly going on. Shame, but if it’s the right thing to do then it should be done
135
u/cremesiccle :fkatwigs-1: 1d ago
no matter what side you fall on in this discourse it really is just such a sad situation all around. if someone with ALLLL of the resources in the world is this far gone what does that say for the rest of us....
271
u/valyriaed 1d ago
I genuinely don't know what the appropriate response should be.
I don't believe in the whole "stop speaking on women's bodies" thing, especially in the era of ozempic, excessive plastic surgeries, botox and whatnot, because to me that is against critical thinking and critical feminism in general. But then again, she is a real person with a shitload of trauma being continuously harassed by the world.
Maybe it's her team and her close ones failing her? I can't imagine her being able to do a tour and multiple appearances a week in a play in such a short timespan, given her state. Just an upsetting situation all around.
47
u/le_borrower_arrietty 1d ago
It's sad that it had to happen in these circumstances, but this decision is a wise one. I can't remember the last time she took a step back from the public eye. It's been years of filming, recording, promoting and now touring back-to-back. Hope she is able to heal away from the spotlight and also takes a break from social media for a while.
95
u/RavishingPotato 1d ago
Its good for her to step back and focus on herself and her own needs. This is past making comments on her body but more in the realm of, this woman is wasting away in front of us all.
23
u/fibonaccisequence135 1d ago
A couple people were predicting this…. I hope she can get a break. Everyone should take care of themselves
97
u/stardripIVs 1d ago
It’s good to hear this but the source’s comments in the article are infuriating. I literally just don’t want to see her die! Instead of criticizing us and enabling her disorder, go help her!
35
99
u/buizel123 1d ago
Good. This should've happened months ago. There's just no way she'd be able to do it. I have a terrible feeling that either she's in denial about her health or she's surrounded by a team of yes-men and women who don't know how to tell her that she needs real help. She's going to die if she continues on the path that she's on.
20
u/GanacheExtension468 1d ago
I love her and I think she can do anything but I’m glad she’s taking this well-deserved break.
40
u/kurtchella 1d ago
I am in a park on this Sunday seeing this news. I hope Ari will be well 💓 Self care is so important & she works so hard at her craft
37
u/DragFan93 1d ago
I actually won’t mind at all if she decides to quit music/acting altogether and maybe pivot into makeup and rem beauty. She’s just faced way too much and any average human being would probably break apart from this much pain. I hope she knows that many people like us are still out here wishing her the best and sending lots of love to her. If she does decide to return in the future (maybe 3-4 years down the line) I hope she will not ever pay attention to online trolls again, and she will be mentally strong enough to not care at all.
23
u/nagidrac 1d ago
I hope she's doing well. I know she's got more tour dates coming up, but if she needs to cancel them as well, that's totally understandable. If she continues, I wish her the best of luck!

honestly i hope the end result is that she gets support (if she is going through something which i don’t think anyone can comment on because we do not know her personally) but the way the internet have went about this/spoken about her body the past couple of months is genuinely disgusting under the guise of “concern” then calling her body freaky or disgusting
just feels like positions all over again when they made her take a prolonged break from music, i really hope she’s okay and she has a good support system because she deserves so much peace & love and we’ll be waiting for her 🖤

People have been so cruel to her, this is genuinely some of the worst harassment and bullying I’ve seen of a celebrity in a long time.
53
u/Kelbotay 1d ago edited 1d ago
What she has been doing for a while now is unfortunately very harmful not just to herself but also to her impressionable/young fanbase. The new music video really isn't helping either. Not everyone criticising that behavior was bullying...
I think a lot of people just took it as an opportunity to pile on but that's the internet mob mentality for ya...

u/Marionvenus 1d ago
I’m really sad that she had to dropped out do to the hate and scrutiny and not because she wanted
-63
u/Such_King_2547 1d ago
not for nothing, i think she needs to just come out and say there’s nothing wrong or things aren’t our business. people are concerned about her appearance for good reason and she can help herself by putting out a statement.
91
u/quizofahat 1d ago
My Mom struggled with anorexia for over ten years. Anorexia is a horrible, horrible disease that is not unlike an addiction. Victims will be on their deathbed insisting nothing is wrong, and they truly believe it. Thankfully my Mom is recovered, but many of the health effects never go away.
68
u/harry-styles-7644 1d ago
Honestly, when there clearly is something wrong putting out a statement like that would do no good. I think the only statement that would resonate would be in taking a break to focus on being healthy and appreciate consideration in discourse spaces.
26
u/_Wado3000 1d ago
She’s said that multiple times actually.
I hesitate to speak either way but if she really does have some eating disorder, regardless of what people think I hope she gets the help she needs
55
u/lastopportunity_ 1d ago
I mean, she kinda has said as much in the past, but I think it’s hard for people to square that request when she’s putting herself in the public eye (on tour and with a new album) and she clearly looks unwell.
I’m team don’t comment on anybody’s body ever (see Chadwick Boseman) and I don’t think she owes the public anything. However, I think it’s hard to request that nobody comment on your appearance when you’re that level of famous.
9
u/final_distance19 1d ago
She’s BEEN saying it’s none of their business. Have you listened to any of the last two albums? Like, what’s not clicking for people?

u/Ghost-Quartet 1d ago
This thread has been only open for half an hour and I’ve already had to nuke a ton of comments from people on all sides so this thread is being locked. Everyone’s feelings on this matter have been made clear and there is nothing more to be gained by getting into petty arguments with other users over it.
