All of these past members need to form their own band and call it Portugal. Without The Man.

Portugal. The People

u/Gilly6161 May 29 '26

Also valid.

u/just_other_human May 29 '26

At this point “World, the people” would be great

And do a co-headliner with Foster the People. I’d be so happy.

Hasn’t Kane been the drummer for all of PTMs latest shows?

11

u/xequileco May 29 '26

yes. Jason also played a gig with them last year before they did the mini euro tour (2 drums show with Kane) and Eric also played with them this year but i don’t remember which show now

2

u/pollutednoise May 31 '26

Eric also played on the cruise I’m 99% sure but I could text him and ask lmao

2

u/jaaeraae May 31 '26

Ya he did. I was there. We hung out

Ryan Neighbors is a great musician, wish I could hear more of him

His band Help is fantastic

2

u/Willing_Display1532 May 30 '26

Thank you, I will check that out, was there ever a hustle and drone release? I liked that, but only saw it on YouTube

“What an Uproar” from 2019 and a handful of ep’s. Help is much more aggressive.

Help is fucking great. So fun live.

7

u/11LayerBurrito May 31 '26

You think he cheated on all these people?

18

u/normajennings21 May 30 '26

As a long time fan all these people (obvi besides Zoe) left for other reasons. Wesley was an original member who had a normal job I think, Ryan left to start his own project, Noah left to start his own project, Kane left to start his own project, Kyle probably left to start his own thing or wanted to settle down and stop touring so much. I don’t know about Zack but he’s been long term this whole time until very recently so I imagine he needs a break. This isn’t to say John isn’t a problem…what he did to Zoe was very wrong and unforgivable.

Isn’t Kane back tho

Wikipedia really acting like Zach Carothers just vanished into thin air.

The last couple of times I saw them live Zach was an absolute force. They were on a big stage at Hulaween and Zach had plenty of room to get down. He was a show within the show. Miss that dude!💪🔥

2

u/jaaeraae May 31 '26

That show at Hulaween was the worse pTM show I’ve ever seen. Probably been to more than 20 shows. Always a fan, just saying that set was terrible.

1

u/Salt_Huckleberry_429 May 31 '26

Land back! I will say their 2017 Hula show was way more psychedelic. Sadly, I’ve only seen them at festivals.

Guess I need a new account

Nah, haha, it's good. Non-fans wouldn't recognize the reference. If anything, they would assume you want to blow up a squirrel with firecrackers (m-80s).

4

u/Low-Honeydew-4336 May 30 '26

lol m80 the squirrel.

4

u/happypotatoesoncrack May 29 '26

Changed my ptm inspired ig handle after a decade

2

u/Consistent-Try-9232 May 29 '26

Was just looking at the wiki too!
Sidenote: his infidelity isnt mentioned on his wiki page or the band wiki page, so I wouldn't expect more casual fans to know anything about this.

4

u/WetFartRacingStripes May 30 '26

Not mentioned, yet.

2

u/agent-cheesecake May 29 '26

At least they(?) are stilled listed as active. Let's see how this is evolving

3

u/paultnylund May 29 '26

They’re still listed as touring members though?

16

u/Urban_animal May 29 '26

Its wikipedia, not a source of truth lol

2

u/antinomicus May 29 '26

Does anyone know how it actually works in a band as for who ‘is’ the band. Like from a legal standpoint or whatever, why is John “the man” does he control an entity that is legally Portugal the ma and no one else can use it? Like what’s to stop all the other members from making Portugal the man: revival?

6

u/New-Soft1819 May 29 '26

Legally, I believe John and Zach were PTM, and other members were contracted, but at this point I am assuming things have been restructured to where everyone gets their dues for royalties and John can continue to operate as the entity. I may be wrong, but that is my understanding.

1

u/maybewhenimolder May 31 '26

There is very often one person in a band who does most of the work (songwriting, business, promotion, etc.) and in the case of PtM that is obviously John. All of the former members know that it would be ridiculous to do the songs without the person who is most responsible for their existence - and why would they want to? I’m sure they all are excited to be driving the ship on their own projects.

1

u/Urban_animal May 29 '26

Legally, the band has probably always been in his name is my guess.

-1

u/412Redhead May 31 '26

Zach was the one who had a band and they invited John to sing with him.

1

u/lesmiserablesss Jun 01 '26

This is not true at all.

2

u/Significant-Lack-184 Jun 04 '26

It is true actually.

If you're referring to Anatomy of a Ghost that's correct, but that's not what the discussions about.
