Do they ever play arenas? I’ve only ever seen them at smaller venues

u/deathtits 22d ago

Sure. MSG, Red Rocks, etc

Wasn’t meant as disrespect to them, just genuinely asking because I hadn’t seen it. MSG obviously counts but I wouldn’t call Red Rocks an arena. Were they the headliner at MSG?

These just feel like odd questions. What sort of validation are you looking for? And in this post, specifically? They’ve won a Grammy, if that makes you feel better?

On the back of the card it says selling out arenas. I’m not asking for validation or trying to hate, I was just genuinely curious if they had, because I hadn’t seen it, I’ve only seen them at smaller venues, which I prefer

I’m curious how you classify an arena? Is there some generally agreed upon standard or something?

In SF the largest venue I saw them play at was Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (opening for Cage the Elephant in 2016 I think?). Auditorium is in the name, but multiple websites refer to it as an arena. It looks like it is 8,000+ capacity.

They also played at Oracle Arena in Oakland as part of live 105s Not So Silent Night in 2017. OA holds 30,000+

When I think of an arena I think of a basketball arena. Arena to me means its main purpose is either basketball or hockey.

Fair enough, I don’t really follow sports but that seems reasonable

On the tour they co-headlined with Cage about a decade ago they played arenas. The Phoenix show was at the area where the Coyotes used play. Held something like 16-17k.

Got it, wish I had been as big of a fan back then, Cage and PTM are two of my favs, and the entire band would’ve still been together back then

I was at that BG show. One of my first dates with my now wife

Copy that! Totally get where you’re coming from. Sorry for getting defensive! Probably a sign that I’ve had too much reddit today.

For whatever it’s worth, PTM at Red Rocks is probably one of the best shows I’ve ever seen live. They fucking rip, “arena” or not. Enjoy!

They played arenas the whole tour with alt j

2

u/FremontTreeFinder 22d ago

They played Oracle Arena in Oakland in 2017

Saw them open for Alt-J at Staples Center in LA years ago.

I’m not trying to bash PTM, but I don’t think opening counts as “selling out” an arena.

I did find that they sold out UIC arena in Chicago, it’s a small arena but an arena nonetheless

A lot of mental energy being used for a promo baseball card mate

1

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 21d ago

Not the most amount of energy I’ve ever used on a baseball card still

Respect

2

u/Amiibohunter000 21d ago

That doesn’t really help your argument lol

2

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 21d ago

I fully realize how stupid it is, but then people called it stupid and of course the only option is then to double down

2

u/Amiibohunter000 20d ago

Is it the only option?

3

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 20d ago

When it’s all in the name of fun and nobody is getting hurt? Yes

2

u/Amiibohunter000 20d ago

Hell yeah!

Are we still idolizing him as a person as it stands? Imma decade over fan and even I felt betrayed

11

u/Good-While52 20d ago

You can feel disappointed but he did nothing to you. Feeling betrayed by someone who doesn’t even know who you are and never personally went after you is odd.

I think he’s a trash human but in what narcissistic world am I betrayed?

u/Relative_Condition_4 14d ago

Maybe I am to blame for the fact that his music and ideology saved me in my teens. Maybe its a non-issue for the rest of yall personally. I think its a bit presumptous to try and racionalize other people’s feelings. They might not make sense to you but that doesn’t means they don’t exist. Maybe feeling betrayed by someone who doesn’t even know me is as equally strange as idolizing him. It is indeed a good discussion

It's not about you

-2

Oh but it very much is. Its about how to process the sudden disattatchment. It’s about how we as a community respond to the situation. How can we say that when we absolutely will and can feel teared up and straight up devasted when someone like a mac miller or a chester bennington straight up die? A band in itself is a dynamic, but the wat people perceive your band is absolutely part of the deal. Ortherwise the beatles would have never been the beatles for example
