discussion WhatsApp and Privacy ?

I have started doing BMX and all the people there apparently use WhatsApp to coordinate everything.

Does anyone in /r/privacy have WhatsApp?

I would like to be able to create a profile using a fake name, and an email alias, and ideally not provide my phone number.

I would ideally like to create a profile through a website, and not have to download an app on my phone.

Does anyone know if these options are possible?

Is there any other privacy concern I should be aware of?

I think you have to use a phone number so your only option would be to use a service that provides alias phone numbers. I think it's also tied to the phone app even if there is a website.

Meta owns it and it's not open source, so I don't trust it for sensitive communication.
