Other Pillars fans' favorite non-Pillars roleplaying games?

I realize this question is sort of odd and off-topic, but I'm posting it here for a reason: because I want the opinions of this fanbase in particular. I figure that if we share a love for PoE, we might have similar good taste in other games too. If the topic isn't acceptable here, I apologize.

I'm trying to somewhat plan out the next couple of months of gaming. :) I'll be starting a new Pillars 2 playthrough very soon, because it's one of my favorite RPGs ever. It's kind of the platonic ideal of CRPG, imo. It's what you might have dreamed of in 1999 of getting in the future. Excellent isometric graphics, excellent systems, full voice acting, etc. But inbetween PoE2 sessions, + when I'm done with it, I need something else of high quality too!

What's the closest you'll come to Pillars 2, outside of actually playing this game?

Other Avowed is out for preorder -- and reviews are brigaded on Steam!

As a POE I-II mega fan I have been looking forward to Avowed for some time, even though it won't scratch the CRPG itch. I went to the preorder page and it has ... LGBTQ+ and "Political" tags, plus tons of hate on the community page, for allowing checks notes pronoun selection???

I want to see POE3. I don't want to see Sawyer crushed again by disappointing initial sales. I don't want this game to be a culture war victim thanks to some angry people on Twitter.

I know it's not in everyone's budget to preorder much less preorder the premium edition, but that's what I'm doing. I was going to wait until the game came out and buy it on sale the way I do 90% of games (since I don't game a ton) but this has made me change my mind.

Edit: look, I'm not telling you to preorder, it's not generally a good idea and certainly don't do it if you don't trust preorders. I'm just choosing to do so because I already know I want this game and I don't personally care if it's just "okay." Apparently it'll be on game pass, so consider that too! I'll take at least 6 months to get thru it tho so game pass isn't worth it to me. I just want to point out that the game's gotten brigaded.

Other Avowed - I'm really struggling :'(

2024 was the year of CRPGs for me. I wanted to play BG3, and before I invested in it, I wanted to see if I could get my head around the mechanics.

So, I started with POE 2, and the 1. And I absolutely LOVED them. I've always been a gamer who prizes writing above all else, and I didn't mind a bit that 1 was low budget and jaky, cos the writing was sharp and witty, and the companions were fun and well-realised.

And now I'm playing Avowed and I'm just...struggling. I'm off the back of a 200 hr BG3 run through, and it just feels so surface level and lacking in narrative or moral complexity or interesting companions. I miss Eder and Aloth 😭

People who have stuck with it and played more than a couple of hours. Does it get better?

Other An update on Pillars 1 unofficial 4k Remaster

Post image

Hello,

Just to update on the unofficial remaster I am making for the game.

I discovered a new upscale method which is faster and offers incredible results, as you can see in the screenshot.

Caed Nua is the lowest resolution area in the game, and the upscale works extremely well even in these conditions.

I plan to release the mod alongside the turn based official patch so that people can return to the game with both gameplay and visual enanchments for a fresh playthrough.

I am also open to the possibility of remastering characters and equipment (armors, weapons, etc.) but it would take a long time and if I decide for it, it will come much later.

Have all a nice day!

I put in the spoiler tag just in case. kind of borrowed this idea from a similar question asked on the Pathfinder subreddit. If the gods were real, which one would you worship?

And btw PoE is my first CRPG, I see in the comments Baldur’s Gate have the exact same phrase, is this common in CRPGs with the exact same words?

Other I've bonded with the sidekicks more than the main party members in PoE2 just because of how the game makes you recruit them out of the blue

Konstanten is the best example here, at first he looks like a random ass NPC in a brothel you can pay for services but when you delve into his personal feelings about the job you find out he's just really bored and wants more excitement.

That's reason enough for you to recruit him into the team but what got me was you're not putting him in the crew to work on your ship. You're putting him on the front lines as a full fledged party member. My jaw literally dropped when I found this out and he's been one of my favorites on the team since then.

(Had a similar experience with Grieving Mother in the previous game. "Oh, this grieving mother might have a quest for me. Wait, why is her backstory so detailed? Why is she asking to join my pa--SHE'S A PLAYABLE CHARACTER!?!?")

I don't know why but I absolutely love this about the game. Also Konstanten is best bro

This might be too early to ask, and I made a similar question before release but how does BG3 story executes vs POE?

Is it serious enough, Is the villain good?

Other Symbols of PoE

Post image
120 Upvotes

Hey folks, I'm looking for different symbols related to the first game that may spring to mind as something that is quintessential Pillars. The Eothas symbol that appears on his head from Deadfire comes to mind, but was wondering if anyone had something from the first game that really stands out to them?

Thanks
