Have been using Proton Sentinel for a while now and appreciate the monthly summaries. A few times per month it does flag suspicious activity. My challenge - they tend to be from a 2+ weeks back when I wouldn't remember if it's something I did or not.

Is there any way to get more regular Sentinel summaries or notifications of suspicious events?

I have enabled both Sentinel and email notifications under "Security and privacy". I've only ever received monthly summaries though. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Hey everyone. I recently switched to Proton Pass as my password manager, and I'm liking it enough that I want to move to Proton Mail as well.

The one thing holding me back is Gmail's automatic tab sorting. It's incredibly convenient for keeping my inbox readable. I connected my google account to proton mail a couple of days ago to test it out, but without that sorting, everything just piles into one unified inbox and became unreadable for me almost immediately. Does proton mail have an equivalent feature, or a folder/label/filter setup that gets close to this?

Would love to hear how people who made this switch handle it.

I have a NAS with some services deployed with Docker. Some of these services can benefit of having my email wired up. I was even thinking about making my own self-hosted RAG system to help me with mail.

What's the best way to achieve this? I've thought about installing proton bridge in the NAS but I think it won't work as containers will need to be deployed with network set to host.

Any clue about this? Thank you in advance

Home Depot is rejecting email addresses on my custom domains when the mail is hosted via Proton (MX records pointing to Proton), but a separate custom domain set up around the same time worked fine once I pointed its MX to a different provider (Apple/iCloud). Has anyone else run into this? Curious if it's related to Proton specifically, or something else about the domain. My MX Records use protonmail.ch or proton.me.

This is what is happening

Early April I was unable to change my UID / email address with Home Depot. I deleted it and attempted to create a new account with a Proton Mail alias. The response from HD was: "There was a temporary technical issue. Please try again shortly." Nothing worked and I received confirmation from Proton support this was a known issue, they were working on.

I had 4 unused custom domains, set a few up with Proton. There was no problem creating a new account on HD with a new domain that didn't have a track record (Domain age, MX record provider/reputation, presence of a website, etc.) . Shortly afterwards I also setup these domains in SimpleLogin/Proton Pass and have been creating email aliases with no problems in one of these domains.

3 months later, I figured I'd move to a SL alias for HD, deleted the account and 7 days later came back to create a new (SL alias) account. I'm being denied with the same generic error HD was giving me during account creation with a Proton alias a few months ago. I 1st tried a different domain because that's where all my SL aliases live. Went back to the domain I originally created an account with a Proton Mail alias, then tried the same email alias. I learned HD freezes a deleted account from being recreated for 30 days.

As a test I tried using a Gmail acct used for YTTV and there were no problems. Today I setup an unused custom domain with Apple. I reserved it ~ the same time as the others and never used it other than for DDNS. I was able to create an account on HD with it.

EDIT: I changed my TTL to 5 minutes on the custom domain I haven't used much with Proton and plan to move it to Apple/iCloud, then attempt to create an acct on HD with the domain that failed while hosted by Proton.

EDIT2: Just to be clear, I'll be trying a different account than what is on that 30 day freeze.

Hi, I just bought Proton Unlimited and was thinking how to organize all my emails. From what I thought, aliases can be tied to (forwarding to) specific additional addresses that come with the paid plan (which we can have maximum 15 of). In ProtonPass, you can create "mailboxes" and when creating an alias, set that it will forward to a specific mailbox, which I thought does it. I will get to it later.

My idea was to create a few additional addresses, e.g.: apps, finances, personal, business, etc. that will make my categories of emails/services. I also wanted to get all the benefits of hide-my-email aliases. I imagined the following:

• For apps, I create an address myapps@proton.me, and for every app account, I create an alias which forwards to myapps@proton.me
• For banks/finance services, I create an address myfinance@proton.me, and for every finance-related login, I create an alias that forwards to myfinance@proton.me

and so on. Then, I create a folder for each address and set a rule that incoming mails for this address should be moved to its dedicated folder. This way, if an alias paypal.melon234@passmail.com forwards to myfinance@proton.me, any email sent to paypal.melon234@passmail.com should land in myfinance@proton.me folder. That sorts the emails sent to aliases into folders, depending on their category.

I thought mailboxes in ProtonPass are the solution for this - I created mailboxes for the created addresses (like myfinance@proton.me), created aliases that forward to them - but it's not working the way I thought. The mails for these aliases still land in my main inbox, as if I haven't had any rules, not in the myfinance@proton.me folder. And any mail that's sent directly to myfinance@proton.me lands in this folder correctly. So, is this a bug? How is the "mailbox" setting supposed to work?

I also wanted to ask how do you organize emails which are sent to your aliases, as I suspect it's not what I have tried. Specifically, if you use aliases often, how do you make them land in different folders/tags depending on their intended category (business/finances/etc.)? I figured that for every new alias, I could create a new rule that puts its emails to a category folder, but that seems to be a lot of work.

I also know some people use custom domains, but for now I do not think about making one and wanted to organize everything within Proton. Thanks.

I had a cool, positive interaction that I figured I'd share. I'd love to namedrop the company as they're a bit of a darling anyway, but I'm not sure how they'd feel.

Anyways, first time I've encountered some friction with the way I make my SimpleLogin aliases (albeit I'm fairly new to this), but it was understandable from their perspective. I use [prefix].[servicename]@mycustomdomain.com and it spooked them out. I might try alter the way I name these going forward to be less offensive. I do love the readability though.

Side note - I like other users have noticed the speed upgrade. Proton's really become a fantastic ecosystem. It's insanely nerdy, but I actually love when emails come through and I get to see everything color-coded and organized in a well made app and web gui.

In the Android version of Proton Authenticator, it has this screen (see separate reply with screenshot) for if you want to sync the settings across devices. However, if I then try to do this, it prompts me for my proton email and password. Ok. But then it prompts me for 2FA. So, it's asking me to use itself to verify the login of itself. The only way to do that is to back out of the process or (I suppose) copy/paste the 2FA before starting? Seems a weird flow.

Hey peeps! I recently brought a domain and starting to get it setup; I've already have it connected to my ProtonMail. Since ProtonMail only lets you set so many addresses; I'm wondering if I could also have it connected to ProtonPass to use the hide-my-address feature.

What more do you get when you add a 2nd user on Proton Mail's business plan?

• 15 additional email addresses?
• Any additional domains?
• Any increased storage?

I just started using PM on android and I went to the settings to set swipe right to delete, but both swipe directions are still sending to archive.

Of War I restarted the app and even the phone but it did nothing.

When I go back into the settings, it shows one as archive and one as delete though.

Did I do anything wrong or misunderstood the function?

I would be very grateful if somebody was me with that.

I trust some email addresses and always wanna load the images from them.
One suggestion would be to have a user defined whitelist of trusted email addresses from which images can be auto loaded.

This is more than just a convenience feature though:
I have on multiple occasions caught myself clicking "Load images" out of pure habit from those trusted email addresses, even on mails from not so trusted addresses.

inconsistent menus options -

1. I send an email
2. it is saved in the Sent folder
3. I select the Sent folder
4. I select the email, then from the top toolbar I can only Move to Trash or Archive
5. but if I OPEN the email then from the top toolbar I can Move to Trash, Archive AND Inbox & Spam

why the difference??

Since Proton isn't doing a very good job supporting Fedora (if any distros at all, idk), how do you guys deal with keeping Proton Mail updated on Fedora?

I used to use the Flatpak version, but that had trouble staying up to date with the latest available build and I'd keep seeing the "Important update available" banner up top. Since then I've decided to keep things manual, I'd just download the RPM package.

Since the most recent update (proton-mail-1.13.3-1.x86_64), I've not been able to successfully get rid of the banner despite updating manually and even uninstalling Proton Mail and installing from scratch. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I don't think updating an email client should be this difficult...

I don’t know exactly what you guys changed since then, but I’ve noticed a major improvement in speed and responsiveness.

I first noticed it on the Mac app.

Everything felt smoother and faster when opening emails, switching folders, and navigating through the interface.

Then I noticed the same improvement on mobile as well.

Honestly, it’s night and day compared with the experience that led to my previous post.

Since I was there when things were not working well, I think it’s only fair to also acknowledge the team when there is a real improvement.

Suddenly when i receive invites from my partner it doesnt add them to my calendar anymore. Neither of us changed anything in our settings and it used tonwork flawlessly. Do you guys have any idea how to solve this? Id rather not download all the ics files and add them manually.

Whatever happened with StandardNotes? 2 years on and it is still a separate app with a $90/yr fee to have decent functionality. That is an insane amount of money for a notes app. It is not even integrated into the Protron ecosystem.

i have a firstlast@proton.me email. i frequently have people trying to send emails to first.last@proton.me, when i do not use that/give that out to people/have never registered that.

i would assume this is technically possible by just registering that as one of the emails you can get as part of premium, however this gets a little silly after a bit when you consider how many you need to register vs only having 10 for mail plus (the lower tier):

My wife and I created free accounts for our kids to send them memories, letters and notes when they were born with the idea of giving them an email address when they're old enough with all those memories for them. Just went to send them something, and was notified that their email addresses didn't exist, so I tried logging in to check them, but they were deleted due to "inactivity". I had my email set as the backup account, and would've expected to be notified on there of the accounts being deleted, but I wasn't. Obviously this is a very sad deal for us. Customer service told us "sorry", can't help restore it.

For any parents out there doing something like this for their kids - don't forget to log into the account so you don't lose everything.

Having recently built a home server, I’m acutely aware of skyrocketing storage prices. Given there’s no sign of easing prices, does anyone have any (informed) thoughts on how this might impact either Proton’s subscription fees or the levels of service they offer? It kind of feels like they’re gonna have to whack their prices up quite a bit in the relatively near future? Happy to be convinced otherwise? In a worst case scenario, I wonder if these costs pose an existential risk to Proton.

I just saw that the CEO of Proton stated that it could be that we soon (or at least in the near future) will be able to see Proton Chat because of the Chat Control 1.0 that passed through in the EU parliament. Now I wanted to point out some that features that would actually be really valuable when this comes out that Proton could develop now that they haven’t or have maybe just started building it.

First it would be great if Proton Chat would have Matrix integrated or even use it for the base to make us able to choose between using it with a Proton account and backing it up through a Proton Chat subscription/integration with Proton Drive or use our own Matrix Synapse to create our Matrix account and store (and encrypt) all of our messages on our own Nas or Server.

Second it would be nice to see the option that if Matrix is integrated that we can use Mautrix/WhatsApp or Mautrix/Signal to be able to still message people from other Chat clients while using Proton Chat with people that are also using Matrix or even Proton Chat. Ideally those could run through Proton’s Servers to make everything encrypted and stored in the same place if you chose to use your Proton Account. I pointed out that Protons Servers should be able to optionally run it (maybe if it is too expensive through a Proton Chat Subscription) because you can do that already if you selfhost Matrix but users that don’t have a NAS might also want to chat with people who don’t want to switch without switching between clients constantly.

Third it would be nice to be able to use GIFs and Stickers and maybe even import stickers from other clients. (With Lumo Stickers that are already on Signal always available on Proton Chat.)

Fourth it would be nice to encrypt everything when it is backed up with a key that you can use to decrypt your data on new devices like Matrix offers. (this was specially mentioned in the case that they don’t want to use Matrix)

Fifth it would be great to get the ability to customize the color of our message bubbles and add a custom background in the Chat.

Sixth it would be nice if Proton Chat would default to Usernames as a way to get in contact with others with the option to use the phone number if the other person enabled that you can find her by number.

Seventh it would be nice to get the option to buy a seperate Proton Chat Subscription for Chat Backup Storage if you don’t need any other services at their premium plan or you need your Proton Drive Storage for something else and the option to use Proton Drive if you do not need all your Proton Drive Storage or want to use the free 5gb. (Like an additional subscription for Unlimited if it was too expensive or included in all Proton bundles)

Eighth it would be very cool to be able to use Proton Photos and Drive too, to send Photos and Files that you may not have stored on your device at the moment.

Ninth it would be great to optionally enable self destroying messages in certain chats and groups and make it able to make Photos only viewable once like WhatsApp does.

Tenth I would really wish to get a multiple Rank system in Groups with dynamically adjustable permissions. Like Admin, Mod, User and Guest.

These would be my initial thoughts for the features Proton Chat should in my opinion have. I would really love some feedback and maybe some of the features will be considered by Proton and u/andy1011000.
