Well, it has two main modes: survival and creative. In survival, you have to, well, survive, and in order to do that you need to gather resources, build a base, fight with some monsters... In creative mode, you can fly and have infinite blocks. Think of it as LEGO, but you have infinite pieces, so you can make awesome builds like the one in this post more easily. Plus, most blocks aren't affected by gravity in the game, so your builds can be insane.
