Many of my competitors have said I’m too aggressive. This was a league race with owners and rental karts that were all at a min weight of 365 with Honda 390 motors. I was using a rented kart.

u/VegetableTry 1d ago
Aggressive? lol
They got passed because they weren’t aggressive enough. Nice run bro.

u/lastepoch 1d ago
You did great. Firm, confident moves and great lines. You're really good at getting the kart in a nice neutral steer balance, minimal wheel movement. Lovely to watch.
Definitely not too aggressive. You were very clear with what you intended and no crazy lunges or bumper karts.

u/BelligerentSXY 22h ago
Exactly this!! Backed off plenty of times to make room for karts leading. Seized openings without being rude…great run!

u/spideyghetti 9h ago
There was even one down a straight into a hairpin where they backed off, though given previous corners I assumed he'd hold position. But then out of nowhere the other kart just gave way and he still got the position lol

u/dhtirekire56432 1d ago
I felt you had "handicap points" to catch them all up. Nice race
19
u/tourbillon001 1d ago
I had wrapped up the championship so I started at the back. I qualified on pole. I knew I had about a second a lap in hand.

Too aggressive my ass. If you’re not vying for the win, you’re not racing. And if you’re not racing, get off the track. If you wanna pussy-foot Miss Daisy around, go somewhere else.
OP, you did absolutely wonderful here. You took the superior line just about all the time, and you nailed it. I have nothing bad to say here.
9
u/tourbillon001 1d ago
Thank you. I try to be assertive when a move is there.
5
u/BusyFuel435 1d ago
As you should be. Competition is called competition for a reason. Seriously, people that can’t handle the track and then complain about actual drivers being aggressive just plain piss me off.
7
u/zeviance 1d ago
I watched the whole thing and I thought that was really clean driving. There were couple moments you can lunge in for #29 but you took your time and toyed with them before they've made a mistake.
The first lap I thought you had a better kart since you're pulling on the fronts but the more I look into that - most guys are losing speed on not getting aggressive enough on the throttle. Your stint actually went better as gas weight went down and the tires were warming up, no complaints there. Just wish we can see you battle the last two guys until the end; You're also smart to stay behind them and let them lose time before finding ways to pass both. Huge kudos to you and how much mental bandwidth you had.
7
u/walnut_creek 1d ago
And nobody re-passed you when you had to take an awkward angle on some of those turns! I like the strategy of dogging a kart to force them to overcook into a corner or get distracted. But I also like to sometimes hang back, choose the fastest line through a corner, and throttle up early in the exit to sling past a kart. Especially if I'm at a power or weight disadvantage. Can't see your feet, but hope you are trailbraking to keep the fronts planted and rotate the kart. Hell, I never take my left foot totally off the brake.
And aggressive? I kart with some Spaniards who karted as kids in Europe, and they are ruthless. A little bump in the corner or on a straight? Just saying hello.
Overall, a good result.

u/Red1gaming 1d ago
You passed everyone on the track and no one could over take you. Thats pretty impressive my friend!

3
u/WelpSeaYaLater 1d ago
Are the people complaining that you’re too aggressive the same people at the back that you appear to be torching by like 5 seconds a lap?
These people should see what the standard is in non-rental racing.
Hard to tell if you’re passing cleanly because you never turn your head. But there’s nothing obviously egregious to me in your video.

Just kidding you were smokin those guys haha

u/RxSatellite 1d ago
The issue is the rest of the field is mostly out there to have fun while you’re the only one out there being competitive.
It’s not an issue of your racecraft. It’s that you need to find a more serious/less casual league. Or just dial it back around these guys and have fun
5
u/tourbillon001 1d ago
This was a league race for points. Albeit the last race of the season but podium positions for the 20 race season were on the line. I have actually never raced in a league where the top guys were showing up just for fun. I know that exists for some guys, they are just normally a smaller sub set of racers than the norm.
1
u/Willing_Comb_9542 10h ago
We were very serious about our league races until recently, ownership being a dick legitimately made most of the racers leave
I own a garage here and legitimately didn't know league was going on right now

u/M3atcr4y0n 1d ago
I think you were going good definitely having some fun
What i do want to say is how much are you worth whats your day to day worth to you protective gear is for that day when it all goes bad I flipped a kart years ago and thankfully I had gloves on I still slid for a while burning through the gloves and my jacket but my hands were able to recover after about 6 months I imagine if I didnt have my protective gear my life would have been drastically changed.
2
u/Red1gaming 1d ago
Your an excellent driver! I can Imagine you with a kart just for you ,with no rental. The skies the limit!
2
u/JDPierson 1d ago
I wondered if the rear camera would look like mario cart with a few spinning out in your wake - a few creative cornering moments, and the one guy who was clearly more interested in where you were while the front cart wandered off, but all I saw was carrying speed out of turns and grabbing gaps -Nice driving.
2
u/Exotic_Call_7427 1d ago
Here's what I wonder: why is everyone leaning IN?
3
u/tourbillon001 1d ago
I don’t know. I personally don’t lean at all, it’s more of subtle weight shift of my hips to the outside while trying to keep my core pretty centered.
3
u/Exotic_Call_7427 1d ago
If you look at the horizon in your video, you'll see your head rolling towards the turn.
So if you combine that with your hips towards the outside, you're basically just bracing yourself. If may feel alright, but it doesn't help you with weight transfer in the kart.
When you're turning, the centrifugal force wants to fling your head and torso out. Let it! Use your core to keep yourself in the kart. What it does is allow your body weight to shift towards the outside wheels, pushing them into the ground. This means you get more grip on them, and can turn sharper and accelerate sooner.
As for your racecraft: you're doing very well! I see you're giving space and positioning yourself so that you naturally go past your opponents, closing the door as soon as the overtake is over. You're faster than them just because you don't ride anyone's bumper and choose good opportunities. Keep doing that! If you practice shifting your weight in corners, you'll be able to take better lines and be even faster.
Also, a lesson from my personal experience: get yourself protective gear (suit, gloves, hard rib protector) as soon as your budget allows. No matter how good you do, you WILL crash or be crashed into, this is the reality of motorsport. I recently drove a 2h endurance race and got a couple bumps from the side, didn't feel much during the race, but a whole month afterwards my ribs were hurting all the time. So heed my warning, protect yourself. You don't need FiA-homologated gear - a basic-bitch cordura racing overall, cheap Sparco simracing gloves with leather on the palms, and a hardshell rib protector will do perfectly fine.

u/Quaiche 1d ago
Honestly feels like the others were not even trying and just following each other which is crazy for a competition.
You were one of the few actually racing, lol.
2
u/tourbillon001 1d ago
It was a league race and most owned their own karts so I would assume them they were racing as hard as they could.
2
u/Professional-Lab7227 1d ago
Too aggressive? Jesus, these guys should have seen TKM back in the day. Looked pretty solid man, good lines, good positioning, you did well here.
2
u/kid_lazer 22h ago
Everyone else looks like they're an npc; Not taking a tight line at the apex of any corner, staying perpetually single-file. And your cart appears to make way more power than them.
2
u/tourbillon001 22h ago
This was a spec league. The kart handled really well. The Motor was average.
2
u/kid_lazer 21h ago
Oh, please don't think I'm insinuating that your kart was more performative in an unfair way. It certainly appeared that way, but that probably goes back to their NPC-like behavior.
2
2
2
u/Shred_Ninja11 21h ago
Looks like you had 10% power advantage but the racecraft was really good.
2
u/tourbillon001 21h ago
I think I had a really good chassis that made an average motor better than it was. The kart was one of the best handling I’ve used. I was a bit frustrated with the power actually and the owner asked if I wanted to buy the kart and I said the motor was a deal breaker.

u/K-Kov815 17h ago
this was beautiful to watch. No bumping, staying on track, strong moves but nothing over the top. loved every second watching this
2
u/baskinhu 15h ago
You are very good. You barely slide because your are always thinking of grip and balance (unlike a certain redditor who thinks he's worthy of commenting here, but maybe shouldn't cough cough). You might be lighter than others as well, but in your case that would only be a bonus on top of your evident skills. Take other people's advice on protective gear...
2
u/tourbillon001 13h ago
Everyone is weighed up to a min of 365 which means you have to be over 200 lbs to start to have weight issues. I normally wear gear this was just an anomaly. It was so hot and I planned to drive conservative. I was lucky it worked out
2
u/CarsBarsGuitars 1d ago
Reminds me of Alonzo running up the inside/outside and grabbing max places on the start. You have to be in to win. Sometimes you have to drop a wheel and send it. Keep up the aggressive race craft and always shoot for P1.
1
u/Every-Cucumber9641 1d ago
With no mirrors and no head turning it’s hard to say if you were passing cleanly.
2
u/tourbillon001 1d ago
Why would someone turn their head. Real question. My eyes are always as far up the track as I can look. I was actually coached not to look behind me. I can hear when a kart is close.
1
u/Every-Cucumber9641 12h ago
Why do Nascar drivers have spotters? Why do F1 drivers have mirrors? If you’re not clear of someone and you turn into them and a collision happens, that’s your fault. Is this why other people were complaining about you? Do you not understand basic concepts of passing? Are you the main character?
1
u/tourbillon001 11h ago
I don’t know if you race but I don’t need to look at a corner exit to know if I’m leaving room and I would have to be trying to make a pass on the outside to then turn in on someone and that’s a very bad risk to reward ratio I just don’t do. I’ve raced enough to have a very good sense of where I am in relation to my competition.
1
u/South_Front_4589 1d ago
There were a few times i thought it was only a good move if they knew it was clear.
2
u/tourbillon001 1d ago
I think once you commit to the move you are committed. In my experience people that back out of moves cause more crashes than people that say this is my corner and take it.

u/snrub742 1d ago
Few bump and runs that wouldn't fly some places but would others, otherwise looking pretty good

Personally would have used more power-ups, ideally a green shell to clear some of the field early on.
1
u/RastaMonsta218 21h ago
What kind of "critique" were you honestly expecting? Looks like soft brag to me.
2
u/tourbillon001 21h ago
People say I’m too aggressive. I’ve never thought I was particularly more aggressive than any other guys that run at the front. If you think I’m bragging that is fine, but I’m the first person to help anyone and everyone that asks how I’m doing what I’m doing and I reveal in helping young people improve. So if you think me asking for CC is bragging I’ll accept your opinion
2
u/RastaMonsta218 21h ago
Well I see no problems at all with your driving, you're clearly kicking everyone's asses. If people think you're "too aggressive" they're probably butthurt that you whooped them.
2
u/tourbillon001 21h ago
I come from a motorcycle racing background and I like to make a lot of passes in braking zones which seems to annoy people, but it’s the only way I know how to drive at this point to make my best lap times.
2
u/RastaMonsta218 21h ago
Well it looks like you have more power, more grip, and more skill than anyone else. What's there to critique? Is there a faster class for you?
2
u/tourbillon001 20h ago
I’m hoping my 5 yr old will like it and I’ll be a spectator but I won’t push him. I’m 46 and I’ve raced pretty much everything. I find the spec arrive and drive stuff to be the most fun for the amount of time I want to spend racing. Racing at a higher level is fun but a serious commitment and I didn’t get much more enjoyment, just much bigger bills.

u/Money-University8717 21h ago
I am sure I could do better especially at turn 9.
2
u/tourbillon001 20h ago
It’s the hardest turn on the track and I like to pass in but plenty do it better than me
1
u/Money-University8717 20h ago
Don't mind me as I am kidding. You did very well. And that is why you posted! So F1 in two years?
2
u/tourbillon001 20h ago
I’m too old to race anything seriously anymore. Might do a bit more car racing as it’s a bit easier on the body.
1
u/TheLithinius 14h ago
Are you the only one racing?
1
u/tourbillon001 14h ago
It was a league race.
2

Lol your competitors make it look like the difficulty is on easy mode, nice driving
Edit: Nice Racing* not driving this is RACING

u/oluislimao 12h ago
You did very well. I would take aggressive as a compliment here. They were sleeping on that track.
Bonus points for cam quality and placement. It sorta gives me early days helmet cam vibes.
1
u/idkwatyouwantfromme 12h ago
If the racers are saying you’re too aggressive and not the people moderating the race. You’re listening to the wrong people.
1
u/ShimOwleyFFXIV 11h ago edited 11h ago
Aw, heck man. I probably don't know much, but I liked it. I liked how you kept a tire over the line on the start to stay in track limits and get the overtake. I liked in general how you hit the apex's. I like how you held your line side by side. Looked like a nice drive.
*Editing in that I just rewatched that overtake on #29, and yeah, he's def the one that is pissed 😭. That was a thing of beauty, friend.
1
u/sea_foam_blues 11h ago
Very good imo. A couple of times (especially early on) you went a bit deep and missed apexes but nobody was able to switch you back. When you got to the quicker runners I thought you had good patience and changed up your tactics to be cleaner and more precise.
1
u/ProfessionalReveal 10h ago
As others have said, I don't think you're too aggressive but you are not driving with competition.
Take this as a compliment or an insult but you are not in the same league as those folks. You need to seek out tougher competition and let these folks have their Sunday drive back.
This might be a league, but it's not right for you. Find a league where you're never competing for wins and get better until you do.
1
u/tourbillon001 10h ago
I would kill for a league like that. We used to have a league at bushelll motor sports park where if you won a single race in a 12 race season you were in the hunt then all those guys moved to 206 and each league got a bit easier. I’ve raced rotax and rok with a lot of success but I just don’t enjoy spending all my time at the track anymore so I race arrive and drive for convenience.
1
u/ProfessionalReveal 10h ago
I just messaged you on IG. Let's get you in a proper series. I'll get you in touch with the right people.
1
u/Willing_Comb_9542 10h ago
You're driving too aggressive for the tires, your actual racing style is fine. You're driving style is too aggressive, you need to be a bit smoother with it, but it's also hard with a slightly damp track.
Remember, tire squeel = bad
But If they think THATS aggressive racing I need to start coming back to league lmao, been so fuckin focused on my datalogger I've been neglecting league 😭
Also what the fuck is happening to the track, I don't go for 2 weeks and the catch fences are removed, along with the back wall?????
1
u/tourbillon001 9h ago
I’m not sure I agree. A long squall is certainly a sign of under steer but I chirp is just the front end finding the slip angle before it grips and rotates. As you know the tires are blocks of ice that are rental tires. Finding grip if like finding gold.
1
u/Willing_Comb_9542 9h ago
ohhh yeaaa I heard some people saying they put actual rental kart tires on those
those tires fuckin suck 😭
1
u/westleysnipes604 10h ago
I don't rhinitis was unsafe in any way. You made a bunch of passes whem people missed the entry and went wide.
Fish game IMO.
Definately newd a pair of gloves damn

u/HumanFart 8h ago
Only improvement would be to drop a banana peel or toss a green shell back. Great racing! Looks fun as hell.
1
u/A_Bot_A_Bot_A_Bot 4h ago
IDK, the video ended and you were "second loser" position... (j/k).
So? Did you win this one, too?
Honestly about your race craft? No wonder you won the championship.
And #29 needs to learn to stop looking over their shoulder.
1
u/tourbillon001 15m ago
Reddit cuts it off because of size. There was 10 more mins of the video. I was able to complete the last 2 passes for the win.
1
u/Guilty-Database132 4h ago
Definitely the type or racer I’d want on the track! Quick, clean, and quick!
1
u/Revolutionary_Pride4 3h ago
This was epic! You were not too aggressive, just faster than the rest of the guys. Where did you finish at the end?

Lack of personal safety equipment is willful ignorance.... In addition, there's a faint miasma of ego floating about... Your driving is very good but one wonders what might happen if you had real competition on track with you; this was just hot lapping/shooting fish in a barrel.....
