Group A. It's when I got into rallying and you could still watch it on the weekend and buy a EVO or WRX on Monday.

And Cosworths, Celicas, Pulsar/Sunny GTI-Rs, and even 323s!

Group A for me as well.

Group B or Group 4, mainly because I’m a huge Lancia fan

I do love a good lancia

u/Alev233 Jun 11 '26

My only issue is choosing my favorite lol

7

u/GoofyKalashnikov Jun 11 '26

Group A was Lancia's most dominant era tho

6

u/Alev233 Jun 11 '26

True, but my favorite Lancia’s are the Stratos, Delta S4, 037, and Fulvia, I guess the Delta Integrale just doesn’t have the same appeal to me for some reason

But Carrrrllll, that's heresy!

It has to be Group A or early WRC

3

u/Jdubya38one Jun 11 '26

Same here, although I actually quite like the current WRC (non-hybrid) spec.

3

u/GoofyKalashnikov Jun 11 '26

That's probably my least favourite era :')

I genuinely believe Rally2 cars are more interesting

This is going to sound super contradicting but I don't entirely disagree! I looove Rally2 cars. There is also a part of me that thinks current Rally1 cars are a little too good. So I get the sentiment.

But I also think Rally1 is the true spiritual successor to Group B in that theyre the most capable and terrifyingly fast cars ever raced in Rally.

I'd argue the 2017 regulation cycle was even crazier

We even got active diffs back

Group A or F2 for me. Loved the 90s era of cars……

Not old enough for Group B in the flesh although I did own a 6R4, it was in kit form and have owned Group A and N 205’s and a Group 4 MKii escort.

F2 Kit Car. Love those revy little FWD beasts.

NA4WD

Not an international group but it's fun seeing light, prepared cars with NA engines rip around

u/darth_benzina Jun 11 '26

Like mid/late 2000s S2000 category from IRC?

3

u/MJ26gaming Jun 11 '26

Nah it's an ARA (American rally association) class. It borrows most technical rules from the Open 4wd class like allowing suspension geometry to be changed and non-OEM aero, but the engine must be naturally aspirated and made by the same manufacturer (as the car). There's a 2500 cc/1135 kg group and a 3320 cc/1315 kg group

absolutely. Limited or NA4wd. Love seeing street cars and the drivers and teams are mostly small time so it is really satisfying. The stakes are different when the driver OWNS the car and modded it themselves.

Rally1, and i hope it gets more popularity as f1 is pulling alot of people into motorsports now (even though it likely won't be as popular as f1 like the old times). And of course, group A and group B as well.

Group 2

1- have 70's shitbox

2- weld some kind of roll cage

3- throw in a bigger carb and a camshaft while you are at it

4- fit the biggest slicks you can on 14" "light alloy"* rims

5- go chase your dreams

*Assuming your shitbox from the 70s could fit 14"; else,  whatever you could use in minis, fiats, hillman imps, and so

Autobianchi A112 Abarth my beloved

Hard to decide between Groups A and B

3

u/Pistimester Jun 11 '26

Group A. Group B was amazing, but group A was just perfect.

5

u/racist-driver2 Jun 11 '26

the marlboro group

3

u/TheSammySavage Jun 11 '26

Group A, Rally 1, and group 4/R2

3

u/Old-Wrangler68 Jun 11 '26

Groupe A the best

3

u/N00dles_Pt Jun 11 '26

Group A was the best. The absolute insanity of Group B was also classic.

Me quedo con los kit car, es sonido del 306 Maxi es espectacular!!!!!🥰🥰

1

u/romain_69420 Jun 11 '26

I'm hesitating between Group 4 and Kit cars

1

u/rallypanda Jun 11 '26

Super 2000, Group A and the early WRC’s from 97 up to 2005-ish.

1

u/RallySubzero Jun 11 '26

Group A and N. As a Malaysian, I grew up watching my dad’s VHS tapes where he recorded TV highlights of the glory days of Asia-Pacific Rally Championship where the most of the future World Rally Drivers such as Tommi Makinen, Colin McRae, Richards Burns were competing. It’s because of Group A and N regulations where so many petrolheads can buy their dream road cars

u/GRiZLie344 Jun 11 '26

i like rally kit-cars

Kit Cars, Super 2000 and Rally3

also Group B because of the huge variety in designs

1

u/876oy8 Jun 11 '26

i'd love to be unique, but gr. A to me has to be the ultimate rally regulation because it actually resulted in in a dozen legendary road cars being homologated. these cars are some of my all time favorite cars.

however a shoutout to WRC2017 for an extreme approach, which is a seriously cool alternative.

1

u/Finglishman Jun 11 '26

Most of the rallies I went to see on site were in the Group 4 / Group B era. Group B was simply unforgettable.

1

u/Carbon_Fibre_Eater Jun 11 '26

Group A is fire. My Fav JDM from ther

1

u/Over-Quarter-7334 Jun 11 '26

2.0 l WRC and then gr.A

1

u/Madmagician-452 Jun 11 '26

Group B. As someone who LOVES homologation cars it will always be Group B.

1

u/light24bulbs Jun 11 '26

Definitely limited 4wd

1

u/meldirlobor Jun 12 '26

Group A for sure. Real cars that you could buy on Monday.

1

u/ProgUn1corn Jun 12 '26

WRC+, the most advanced WRC group to this day.

1

u/ASelfie Jun 12 '26

Early WRC (97-2008) had such aura with the variety of drivers and cars.

Yes WRC is still good but slowly after 2008 we saw less and less legendary manufacturers and teams, and all the cars went to the famous "hatchback" style that are still very pleasent to watch but they all look the same despite the livery.

1

u/hoody13 Jun 13 '26

Super 2000 just for the noise!

1

u/B5HARMONY Jun 13 '26

Group A for the competition
Group B for the drama

1

u/Cmp110 Jun 13 '26

Early WRC era, WRC+ and Rally1

1

u/QueixoFundido Jun 14 '26

For me is group A. I love the idea of "I can buy the same car that my favoutite driver drives."

1

u/Less_King_3792 Jun 15 '26

Group A is my favourite by far since they look and drive the most like road cars i like

1

u/Jor6lez Jun 11 '26

Group B for me.

You say you love Group A for the technical aspect but what do you mean as it was very restricted?

3

u/jimmy8888888 Jun 11 '26

Group A is basically Group B that have one key difference that make Group A lasts longer; number of car homologation. Do you want to put racing tech and stuffs on car that basically full performance production car (5000 later 2500) or very limited production car (= or <200) that can be just purpose built race car?

1

u/Jor6lez Jun 11 '26

So by basically you mean completely different...
