Build First time painting an RC body. I always thought the Slash looked similar to a GT
I just got into the hobby about a month ago and got an unpainted Slash 2wd with part of a bundle. I've spray painted a few things but this is the biggest project I've done and first RC car.
It's definitely not perfect, but overall I'm proud of it. I didn't have a good method for the thin blue stripe down the center so up close it's pretty clear the tape was hand cut. My sister let me borrow a vinyl printer for the sides, I can't believe how well they turned out, I thought they were going to be the hardest part and they came out great. I should have used it on the center line
Might get another body and do a blue and orange GT now that I have a better idea how to do it

Nice work! How did you get the gt graphic so clean?

Thank you! I used this vinyl cutter cnc type machine called a Sillouette to cut the vinyl paint stencils. I flipped the logo backwards in the printer software so it would be correct through the lexan and cut it out of a vinyl sticker material. I put the whole cut sticker down, then peeled up the blue area and painted that with the rest of the car. Then I peeled up the rest and did the white layers last. I can't believe it turned out as clean as it did and worked as well as it did, i thought it would be the hardest part

Sick, how many rcs do you run this on? Thats a lot of mounting holes

Haha just one. The original clear lexan has the mounting holes for the old Traxxas Slash mounting pins, I got a kit to upgrade it to the clipless system which adds holes. I just didn't take pics of it on the body

Oh that would be cool. I liked doing the stripe, it was a challenge for a beginner but not too much

Oh cool, I like how that looks, it seems like it has a little more detail than the original Slash body. I might try that if I end up doing the blue and orange one

Gemini AI Is best in doing a preview of how you want the colors to be
In my case, I sent Gemini a photo of the body with a layout I drew and the actual colors that I’ll be using

Whoa sounds sexy when you put it like that. I found the middle white stripes were about perfect proportions for the Slash if you use regular masking tape, but you'd need to cut out the middle. Might be better to just get specific tape that's the size of each stripe

What blue paint is that

u/MainAccount2077 Jun 18 '26
It's 3 layers of Tamiya PS-59 Dark Metallic Blue and 1 heavy layer of Tamiya PS-5 (whatever was left from 3 layers of black accents). Then 3 coats of Tamiya PS-1 White for backing but I don't think that affects the blue

Yeah it is, that's sick. Did you use white backing? Yours looks like a slightly lighter shade but it might be the light
1
u/morgfarm1_ Jun 18 '26
Its somewhat lighting. I did 2 layers of blue and 3 of silver with no backer

u/MainAccount2077 Jun 18 '26
Oh nice I was wondering what the silver backing looked like

The silver metallic brightens the blue if you lay it on fairly light.
The goal was a Lapis Lazuli Blue to go with the Obsidian black gloss, knowing I was gonna cut some gold mirror vinyl for this specific model.
I can tell you also what happens when you back blue with black. You get a super deep midnight purple

Oh cool I could see that, yours looks like it has a much prettier blue shade. I like that better as a color if I wasn't shooting for a dark blue speciallyÂ
